Summary: My First Video Camera
Review: This camera is great! With it being my first video camera, it was very easy to figure out. The touch screen made the menu features extremely easy to navigate. Connecting to my computer is very easy considering all I had to do was connect it and everything else was automatic. My camera doesn't have a motor noise, but there is a problem with the wind when filming outdoors. Overall I am very pleased with this product.

Summary: MiniDV tapes are only an hour long
Review: This camera's great, see also the 35 model. It's the one my university is buying. But be careful about all the extra costs and requirements, such as the miniDV tapes and hard drive space and video editing software and computer.

"A MiniDV tape offers a digital recording time of 2 full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD."

The tapes are only an hour long each, and can add up in cost quickly, but that's still about 20 times what a CD holds. One hour of raw uncompressed video takes up about 13 gigs of space on a hard drive. DVDs hold about 4.7 gigs, CDs about 700 MB.

So if you have a lot of video footage (like many hours) that you need to store and use, then your options are A) buy a lot of miniDV tapes. B) buy a DVD burner and many blank DVDs. C) buy one or more very large hard drives.
In all likelihood you'll have to do all three, because you need the hard drive to edit the video (plus software), and the DVD burner if you want to share or play the edited video in a DVD player.

You may be surprised when you add up the costs. For me, I'm using video for research, and it is cheaper and more convenient to just get a large external hard drive rather than dozens of tapes.

Summary: Strange Motor sound on camera and vcr mode
Review: This sure is a great camcorder with a sleek body and Awesome touch screen. The video quality is excellent. The size, look, weight, capability of taking good quality still pictures, and ease of navigation makes this camera a great buy. However, there is a strange motor noise in the CAMERA and VCR mode after you insert a mini DV video tape is really annoying. Despite of its great feature, I am planning to return it and wait till Sony fix this prob, because I think its way better than Panasonic in the similar price range

If you don't care about the noise, then go for it.
