Summary: I love the camera, but what is with the video artifacting?
Review: It appears that I am not the only one with this problem. I received this camcorder for Xmas. I love it. It fits nicely in my hand, is super easy to use, and connects easily to my computer to download thru the 1394 firewire cable. What I did notice today since it was the first day I decided to download video is how bad the video artifacting was. At several point the right 1/5 of the screen was totally funky. The sound hicups once in a while also. If anyone has found out what causes this, please email me. I love the camera and do not want to return it, but will if this cannot be fixed.

Summary: A Very good camcorder
Review: My wife just brought the scd23. I like that it is lightweight and has a lot of functionality.

In reading some of the past reviews, I understand that most users believe that the scd23 can only use a 16 meg memorystick. I guess I did not bother to read the instructions, cause I went out and brought a Lexur 64 meg stick and it works just fine.

I look forward to putting it to use on my grandkids, I will let you know how things go with getting the pictures downloaded on to my computer later.

Summary: Great Camera / Terrible Tech Support
Review: PROS: The camera takes great video quality and is easily hooked to a tv/vcr for larger viewing. Very easy to use and I love the night vision.

CONS: Unable to download video to computer... Windows XP won't recognize camera...

So if you just want to transfer your video to VHS, it's a great camera to buy...

Summary: Good Starter
Review: Pros:Overall this is a nifty DV camera. I did some research before buying and am pleased with it. It also has a digital camera with a memory slot built in, (something that many other name brands in this price range don't have) and I found no problem hooking it up to my Mac with a firewire cable.
Cons:indoors, in low light ,the quality tends to be grainy. This seems to be true however with the other name brands,(yes even the Canon ZR80), in this price range of DV camcorders.

The most common problems that people have with transferring digital video to computer seem to be one of these three things.
1)A firewire cable, card or device is missing for transferral
2)The computer itself needs system updates(ex:Disk Utility) so that everything runs smoothly.
3)The Camcorder itself has a defect and needs to be repaired

I used Amazons rating system before buying this Camcorder, so thanks Amazon!

Summary: SAMSUNG SCD23 - Good Buy
Review: Purchased the camera after Christmas, after looking for a digital camera that would allow me to upload video to my home computer. This camera does just that. The quality of the video is fine for home use, vacations, etc. And that's just what I intend on doing with it. I'm not a professional, and don't expect this camera to do what a professional camera would. Bought a Belkin Firewire card and cable, installed it, and had video uploading onto my WinXP system in no time. Very easy to do. Used WinXP's "Movie Maker" software (freebie) to play around with the video, and had my first DVD made within sight of a few hours.
PROS: Small, compact and feature-packed. I like the sound quality. Video quality is good --- not stellar --- but good. Battery charges quickly.

CONS: All indications (web searching and the salesperson at Best Buy) told me video could be uploaded via the USB port. NOT SO!!! Must have the Firewire card and cable (expect to pay about $75 for these two items collectively).

If you want further information on my experience with this camera, please don't hesitate to ask.

Summary: Poor quality and ergonomics
Review: This camcorder comes with very poor image quality and is hard to hold and operate. With namebrand camcorders from JVC and Sharp going for less money and having more zoom and much, much, much better picture quality, this one shouldn't even be on your consideration list for a MiniDV camcorder.

Summary: Great first time Camcorder
Review: This DV camera is amazing. I have researched many cameras in the same class and this one seems to be a bargain compared to the competition as the feature set is concerned.

Mini-DV
Easy-Q
EZ Dial Navigator
Optical 10x /
Digital 800x Zoom Lens
1/6", 680k Pixel CCD
Power Nite Pix

Despite what people say, this camera can handle a 128 Megabyte memory stick and possibly up to 256 megabytes. Not that brand matters but I used a SanDisk 128 memory Stick. You should make sure that you format your stick using the camera's format feature before using it.
