Rating: Summary: Don't listen to the other reviews Review: This camera seems to be receiving a lot of bad press. Let *me* set the record straight. This is a good camcorder. The average user won't be able to tell the difference between this and your typical JVC-style mini-DV camcorder. The "noise" referred to in other reviews is the auto-focus. It seems that in this camcorder it's particularly sensitive and constantly adjusts itself. The solution is just to turn it off. This sounds crazy, but the picture stays focussed unless you do a full 22X zoom (in which case you can manually focus it with your thumb on the roller wheel). Full Zoom is almost useless on ANY non-pro camcorder anyway because the picture will shake like heck from your hand moving. For [the money]this camera can't be beat. The battery is also quite decent and lasts for over an hour which is fine for most home users. The camera is also quite small (about 2 sizes smaller than the average Sony Hi8). Overall, great buy.
Rating: Summary: Excellent little camera Review: I'm a film student right now, and earlier this year I needed to get a camera that I could hook up to my computer with firewire. I also didn't have a large budget, so I needed to get something fairly [inexpensive]. My prayer had been answered with this little camera right here. It's easy to use, has good quality (except in seriously low light situations), and you can do some cool things with it. For instance, you can change the shutter speed. There is also this mode (I forget offhand what it is called), but you are able to make the entire screen black and white except for one color (like red). So, for instance, if you were filming santa at x-mas and you changed the mode to see only red, the entire screen would be black and white except for the red on Santa's suit!
Rating: Summary: Worst Camcorder Ever Review: I bought this cam due to the great price 20 days ago. Upon testing it out at home, I found artifacts floating all over the screen. The time and date imprint kept on resetting by itself. Lcd has bad spots on it. If using the image stabilizer, the image will roll quite a bit upon capturing through firewire so beware. Image quality is the worst ever for a digital cam. I had better pic quality from my old panasonic vhs-c cam. Time and date also vanished when capturing to PC via firewire with aist digital movie suite. I am returning this product and buying a Sony TRV 27 even if I have to pay a bit extra. Heard great review for that model. Save yourselves the frustration and buy Canon, Pana, or Sony!!!
Rating: Summary: Good camera for a great price. Review: Despite the reviews some have given here I went ahead and bought it anyways. I mean, who uses the annoying Time/Date stamp anyways? [X]with a free camera bag and free shipping is much much cheaper than you'll be able to find anywhere, period. I bought it for the price and b/c i wanted a Digital camcorder I could hook up to my PC. I've had it for a few days and think it's great. I mean, [X] bucks, you can't go wrong. If you are considering this camera just know it doesn't come with any tapes or a firewire cable. And, it doesn't have a light.
Rating: Summary: Good for the price! Review: After reading all the reviews, I decided to try it out and I am very pleased with it. The picture quality is satisfactory, filming in dusk conditions is OK, but you need a light for dim conditions. It has many of the features of more expensive models. The buttons are easy to reach, the menu easy to navigate and it has a mic' input as well. So far, I don't have any major beefs with it. Worth the money if you are on a budget.
Rating: Summary: Value for money Review: If you buy this for under [X] in 2002, it will be probably worth the money. Records well, plays back well, minimum but sufficient controls. Recording gripe: the image stabilization is worthless - if you take a lot of high-zoom or high-motion hand-held shots, this camcorder may not be for you. I have been able to grab video from Premiere through the firewire connection, but somehow the audio was missing - probably not the camcorder at fault. Audio plays fine on direct playback or on copy to VHS. The date setting on the camcorder for some reason keeps resetting to Jan 1, 2001 (even when I don't drain the battery down). Other than these issues, it is a decent camcorder.
Rating: Summary: I want to cry! Review: I have owned a Sony 8mm camcorder for 6 years, and i decided to get a digital one. This product is not a good buy.It is sharp and clear if you playback the tape on your LCD.When you play on your tv with a S-video cord, its quality is like a vcr tape. The worst of all is when you shoot the video,of course, with the stabilization fuction on,the pictures become blurred when you move, and when you playback the tape, the pictures are also blurred. The pictures of my 8mm is better than this digital one when i playback the tape.Think before you buy this product.
Rating: Summary: Samsung . . . Pitiful customer service and { bad} warranty Review: I purchased the Samsung SCD-67 for all of it's great features and low price. I was very pleased until I needed warrany service to fix a broken firewire (IEEE1394) port. I called Samsung support for 3 weeks before speaking to someone knowledgable enough to ascertain it was a true problem (his name is Mike . . he's the only one there who knows anything about this camera). I mailed it to CVE for warranty repair. 4 weeks later I started calling to inquire. After 2 weeks of calling, I finally got through to learn that the unit could not be repaired and would be replaced with a refurbished unit. The camera had 45 minutes of use on it when I sent it for repair and I get a refurbished unit in exchange? What kind of warranty is that? I submitted a Better Business Burea complaint. I'd encourage others to do the same. You can submit the claim online...Just look up Samsung in Mt. Arlington, NJ. I will never buy another Samsung product again. Buyer Beware!
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this camera! Review: I bought this from a local store and have had nothing but trouble from day 1. Like most complaints, my date is reset everytime I turn it on. Then, it started eating my tapes (which are expensive). Final straw, started getting lines in playback mode. Now it's to the point where playback is not working. I don't know if my kids memories are gone forever or if I can play the tapes on some other device. the local store and Samsung are basically telling me that I'm on my own. It sucks, $... down the drain and lost memories forever. DON"T BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: Excellent camcoder for the money Review: It is probablly cheapest miniDV camcoder. It has few bugs (like loss of date&time). It's really bad with low light.Bottom line, it does what it should. It gives preatty good quality video (which I can download to PC). I give 5 not because it does not have problems. I give 5 because it is great value for the money.
