Summary: not like the picture
Review: i brought this camocoder, but it is too big, it is not a mini one. The picture looks very nice and high tech and the discription is good, but in fact the resolution and color is not good at all.

Summary: Mine has the pixelization problem, too
Review: I hated to do it because this camcorder could be such a great value, but I boxed it up and printed off the return shipping label at Amazon.com to return the unit. After 3 weeks of sporadic pixelization problems during playback they became so common that they made the unit useless.

I originally intended to exchange mine for another unit but after calling Sharp about the problem and dealing with their customer service and reading the high number of reviews from people who have had the same problem I have decided to return the unit and look for another camcorder.

Summary: So far, NOT good: Do NOT buy!
Review: I was attracted to buy this camcorder by its cheap price and ... rebate in December. I was using TDK tapes. The first 5 minutes was OK during the playback. However, after that every time during the playback, there are stripes (either colored or black) on the screen and the sound became noisy, too. I also tied to fast-rewind while playing, according to the manual I was supposedly able to view the film so that I can stop at the place I want to, but there was no picture AT ALL, only blue screen. And the track of timing disappeared as well.

This camcorder does have many nice features, although navigating through them manually via on-screen menu is kind of hard. I tried to look up service information on their web site ... it sucks! Lots of pages (related to "get service") showed up as "Nopage was found".

When I looked up at Amazon.com's ranking information forthis camcorder today, it showed that a total of only 8 were sold. What anamazing camcorder!? With so many positive reviews, if they're all true, I wouldassume the number of sales should definitely exceed 8...

My advice: do NOTbuy this camcorder. You do not have to try to find out that it is bad. Yes, itis really BAD. I am not happy. All my recordings of my lovely baby were screwed up!

Summary: pixel mosaic happens :(
Review: A significant $100 rebate encouraged me to buy this video camera at a price I had recently paid for a plain digital camera. Unfortunately I experienced problems similar to other negative reviewers. When playing the recorded material, the picture sometimes turned to a large-pixel-mosaic. I admit it happend only once with a brand new TDK tape, after this I bought another tape, this time a Sony, and problems did not repeat. Nevertheless I lost very important 30 minutes of an event I was filming, so I can't be positive about the unreliable camera and

I doubt the tape was to blame since other users complained about the same.

Another thing is the overall quality of the picture, which is not better than of my analog Canon videocam. I did not look at the pixel resolution but it is not high, which explains the low price.

And the last small complaint is about ergonomics of the controls, some keys are not well placed, especially the cateye one, which is easy to accidentally switch on.

Summary: Oops Wrong DV camera.
Review: I know a lot of people have got into trouble by now.
Sharp the name does not match for this product. There is
no sharpness in the picture quality.

Recording is great but playback sucks. I tried to record it into a VHS after 10 min I started seeding two to three thick black lines.

I personally feel spend another 150-200 more and buy a good product.

Summary: haven't made up my mind yet
Review: I understand and appreciate all of the available reviews. The cynical side of me believes that the good reviews are coming in from company reps that have to rev up the sales and the hopeful side of me realizes that some of us don't know how to get satisfaction if we're not completely satisfied.

The REALITY: Sharp customer relations ARE completely helpless and make you wait until the next millennium to let you know this. Second. Amazon is in the phone book. Call information...then ask the Amazon personnel for toll free number so that you'll have all the time you need to describe your problem. I found their staff to be nothing but courteous and helpful when I was describing my problem with pixilating. We recorded Christmads morning and on playback got serious pixilating of image. Then after I spoke to Amazon and decided to return camera it's been working perfectly ( isn't that how it always happens?) But I'm not believing yet...after all the other reviews, especially the one about fast action camera use---and the picture breaking up then---after all those presents were flying on Christmas but my other stabs were pretty placid in comparison---cooperative tree, sleeping child, etc. So I'm not sure if this is a keeper yet. I don't want to return but don't want to have problems in the future, either!

To sum up...not sure about camera but was very impressed with responsiveness of Amazon's staff(polite and understanding) but totally underwhelmed with SHARP'S very DULL response to a very real customer relations problem. All they want to do is send you to a service center a thousand miles away!

Summary: Great Value
Review: I bought this about a month ago and now that I've used it for a while I highly recommend it. Over Christmas I had a chance to compare its video quality to a much more expensive JVC camcorder that my sister purchased. After the comparison my sister wasn't very happy with her camera. I paid half the price and my recordings look much better. I also like how it has full size RCA connections to hook it up to a TV. My sister's had this little flimsy mini-jack that she needed a more expensive cable for. The only thing that I don't like is how long it takes to snap a picture on to a smartmedia card, but for the price I can suck it up.

Summary: Love it but the plastic around the lens has a crack in it.
Review: This is my first camcorder/digital camera and I really love it but.. there was a hairline break in the plastic around the lens that got bigger when you put the lens cap on and off. Now I have to return it for a new one. Very dissapointed that I have to return it. Want another one like it but I'm afraid of it cracking again. Haven't had it that long.
