Summary: Not very impressive
Review: I had to return it the next day, got error message saying to remove and reinstall tape....found tape to be partialy stuck in camera upon removal...damaging expensive tape...not cool! This happened every time a tape was inserted. I only managed to get 20 mins of recording in before this happened. I did like the quality of the still pictures, much improved over my GRDVL510.The 510 has not been without problems ....frequent head cleaning notices.. not to mention the pixelated images. I was using JVC tapes and was advised by JVC to switch brands ...now using Sony..so far ..so good.I have to say my 8 year old Sony 8mm handycam still works and has never required a head cleaning. I should have stayed with Sony products...You live ..You learn.

Summary: good but could be better
Review: I sold my mavica camera to get this because it has a digital camera built in, but even though the pixels are the same, teh quality is not. Also, it is a pain to find where you left off taping, but other than those two things, it is a great camera.

Summary: Superb Quality for such a tiny camera!
Review: I tried out in the course of over three weeks four different camcorders before deciding on this one. It is wonderfully quiet not to mention light, compact and easy to use. The LCD screen is clear and big. The playback is clear with excellent sound. Many extra features such as the editing options during playback were an unexpected treat. I like to shoot somewhat professional footage up here in Alaska and edit it with music and this model by far met all my usual standards and more......

Summary: Next day return
Review: I would like to have written about the good features, but on the second day, as I was watching the tape, I somehow disconnected the ac adapter, & zap, it died. I later read in the manual, not to disconnect the ac adapter while the camera is on. What happens if the power at home goes out while you are playing it?

Summary: User friendly but Poor images
Review: This camcorder is user friendly with many great functions but, unfortunately, performes poorly in low-light situations or while shooting indoors with poor color reproduction. The color improves a bit with the NightAlive function but the shutter speed is so slow it causes a blurred image. NightAlive function cannot compare with the superb effect of MagicPix that Panasonic provides on their camcorders. In good light the picture sharpness, although good, is nowhere close to a SONY.
I returned my JVC GRDVL820U and am buying a SONY !!

Summary: Nice Camcorder, bad tape compatibility
Review: This is a good little camera with great features. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived as it's smaller than I expected. Quite a tidy, compact package with big features. I figured there was really no need for a color viewfinder in the DVL 920 model, so not worth the extra $'s.

Only one major reservation... it doesn't work with TDK or Panasonic brand tapes. After purchasing the camera and recording an hour of tape, I played the tape back on the unit and got a message on the screen that the camera needed cleaning and the image was broken up and basically garbage on the screen. After speaking to JVC tech support they informed me that with TDK tapes the camera will exhibit that behavior, but I was using Panasonic. I then bought a Sony tape and everything seems to be fine.

Summary: Advanced technology in a small package
Review: This is my second camcorder. My first-a Sony-met an untimely end with the ground with assistance from gravity and loose fingers.
This JVC is lightyears ahead of that Sony. Packaging is very nice. The included bag is usable and a keeper.
To put some things in perspective. I always spend a little extra to get the top notch quality. Only Lexus, only Craftsman, only Oxford, etc..You get it. Electronics-only Toshiba,Sony,JVC, and Hitachi. No GE, BMW, Aiwa, ,Yugo, or Zenith here.
I compared camcorders for 6 months before this purchase.
Features first, price second.
So to break it down:
PROS:
1) Very very good video picture
2) Stability control is good
3) One of the sleekest looking camcorders on the market. Simply gorgeous.
4) HUGH 3.5" LCD that makes others at the amusement park drool
5) Remote works well
6) Very quite
7) Memory card slot that accepts Secure Digital-SD and Multi Media cards. Perfect because they go right into my Pocket PC phone to view and take the pictures with me.
8) Firewire, USB ports for fast transfer rates
9) Bright night lite
10) OK still pictures-even at 1280 mode. Not digital camera quality, but good for a camcorder.
11) Megapixel CCD for great tone/contrast
12) Good documentation
13) Good sound with no echo effect as in other camcorders
14) Comes with a USB cable. Also accepts universal Fireqire cables which you would already have if you have Firewire on your system.

CONS:
1) Battery life a little weak. Upgrade to the 3 hour battery for only $...off Ebay
2) Limited warranty-All camcorders regardless of make are problem prone. JVC only offers a 90/1 year while others have 1 year/1year or more.
3) No such thing as Night Mode. It simply does not record in very low/dark settings-This is normal for all high megapixel digital cameras though.

I got it home, opened the package, charged it, and making movies within an hour. I opened MovieMaker in Windows XP ,pressed play in the JVC and record in MovieMaker and imported the movies all within 5 minutes. Editing was also a breeze. I loaded the supplied JVC software, but found the software in XP to be more than suffecient.
I would highly recommend this camcorder to anyone looking for a digital quality camera. Plus, the price has come down to around $...if you really shop around.
You will not be dissapointed.

Summary: Superb Ergonomics, Terrible Audio
Review: This looked like a great camcorder in the store. It was easy to use, the buttons in all the right places. As soon as I bought one and it arrived, I realized my mistake. The camcorder has a constant buzz when you start using the DV tape to record or playback. This buzz is recorded onto the tape, since it seems to come from the tape motor which is unfortunately very close to the right audio channel.

Video quality was decent with only a slight washout of colors. The Night Alive feature was pretty useless, with bad focus and poor color; however, the front light was nice for low-light conditions. Zoom was smooth and well-positioned.

The 3.5" LCD was VERY nice. I'm definitely hooked on that feature.

I'm going to try the next model up, the GR-DVL920U, to see if it has the buzz problem, too.
