Sharper Image TV Everywhere! Wireless Audio/Video Signal Transmitter & Receiver with Remote Control (SI670)

Summary: Good product - but...
Review: I bought the TV Everywhere in early October 2004. After hooking it up, I got great reception from all sources - Cable TV/DVD/VCR - with the receiver directly in front of the transmitter. But when I moved the TV to another room (one wall between, about 40 feet from the transmitter), sometimes it would work and sometimes I got nothing but snow.

I have two major complaints - 1) There is NO reference to a piece of the product (clearly for the IR INPUT) in the owner's manual and 2) repeated calls to the SI Customer Service 800-number have only been frustrating with their repeated and empty replies "We'll research it and get back to you". Although I would really rather keep the TV Everywhere, I may have no choice but to return it.

SI needs to fully test an item before putting their name on it and marketing. SI also needs to see that the owner's manual is complete on such an item. SI also needs to provide better customer service when a customer calls with a problem about one of their products.

Summary: TV Eveywhere things to know
Review: I installed TV Everywhere but could not get a clear picture. I soon realized that my cordless phones were interfering. They were on the same 2.4 Ghz bandwith. I switched to phones on 5.8 Ghz - it solved that problem. The next problem was that in order to remoteley access your source TV Everywhere only has 2 buttons. I purchased "Remote Control Extender" (model #LF-IRX) by Terk from etronics.com for about $30 (including shipping). I could now use as many buttons as I needed. You do need a spare remote for your source.

After all this - it works great. Sharper Image should be more upfroont about the interference with other 2.4 Ghz devices and have a better way to use the remote control. One final warning - you may have interference from your wireless network.

Summary: TV Everywhere Has Very Good Picture, But a Few Issues
Review: Over the last week, I have tried several products in my attempt to find the perfect one to transmit television throughout my house. In comparison to other products, I would have to say TV Everywhere has a very good picture transmission and is one of the few that broadcasts cable television without having to use an auxiliary sending source (i.e. for other products you have to run the signal through a cable box or a VCR as they have no input for a cable line: TV Everywhere has a cable line input). Also, this is probably the sleekest looking product on the market. If these are your only considerations, this may be the product for you.

However, for others here are my concerns:
My message to Sharper Image: why would you make a product that has only a two button channel remote in today's age of hundreds of channels? And forget about buying a universal remote because I tried every code in the book and Sharper Image doesn't use any standard for their remote, that I can discern. Nor do they allow you to transmit a signal through an Infra Red (IR) sender to a remote auxiliary source like most other products on the market (which is a technical way of saying that you can use a remote control upstairs to control the channels on your cable box or VCR in another room right out of the box).

Fix this issue, and this will be a recommended product. Otherwise, please consider that with this product you only have two choices: 1) tolerate the two-button channel changer 2) buy a Remote Control Extender, which is an additional cost to the already high cost of this product (and which performs a function that is standard on many other similar products in the form of the IR sender).

This may be the perfect product for you, but also look around. This is still fairly young technology and you may see huge differences between various products.
