Rating: Summary: THIS THING ROCKS!!! Review: I have always enjoyed JBL products and this one didn't let me down. I am running it on an old Technichs Reciever, but I just bought a new JVC RX-7040 so I can hardly wait to hear it in DTS.
Rating: Summary: The JBL E250p is a keeper Review: I have written a review on this JBL subwoofer at every possible place ever since I have opened and tested this woofer out. I must say that I was skeptical about buying a JBL because I have heard so many bad things from HSU and SV Subwoofer owners. While it goes without saying the E250p is not quite as good as the more expensive woofers, the price is more than reasonable.
When I first announced to my friends (big car audio enthusiasts)that I was in the market for a subwoofer for my home audio equipment they all said the same thing, "once you have bass you only want more." How right they were.
I bought a second E250p about a month after recieving the first one.
I am definately not a big technical guru, but I am big on music and true replication of the bands I listen to; whether it be a piece by vivaldi, a rap song by Missy Elliot, or a heavy metal song by Pantera. One Subwoofer replicated a symphony or bass pedal beautifully and drew you into the music, two just evened out the sound throughout the entire room.
For those who prefer movies over music from their home theater setup, I personally couldn't be happier with the E250p. Whether it is the sharks of Finding Nemo, the dark ambiance of Van Helsing, or any scene of Black Hawk Down, this JBL handles it incredibly well.
For video game players, all I can say is wow. Simply wow.
Rating: Summary: Little Mixed Review: This sub is on the low end of the spectrum of powered subs for your home theatre. By far the best feature is the cost. Decent entry level sub but not by any means stunning in performance. The power rating of 400w is rated on the scale of cheap audio where they try to sell to people who think.. wow i'm getting x,000 watts for how much? So dont let the 400w fool you, its really much lower than stated.
As for sound, it is a ported enclosure (port vents downward) so it is a bandpass type box. Bandpass meaning that the way the enclosure is structured, it is made to pass certain frequencies well and others are extremely weak. Its very boomy on low frequencies and quite weak once you get towards the 100hz range and higher. So it is definately an addition to an existing sound system that already has mid bass covered. Bass reproduction isnt very tight, probably due to weak driver so most music is going to sound fair at best, except long bassy notes of hip-hop tracks. It does sound decent on movies where things blow up and you have long drawn out and low rumbling bass. So for home theater it isnt really too bad.. again emphasizing on you already have mid-bass on your system.
The driver is so-so quality, i have a feeling that if I put a better 12" sub driver in there and closed up the port this thing would sound a lot better.
My suggestion for the same cost, go with the Velodyne Acoustics CHT-12BV.
Rating: Summary: a pleasure Review: this woofer is a wonderful piece.. I'm an audio engineer who for the past 20 years has worked with a wide range of speakers.
Rating: Summary: A great subwoofer Review: We have a basic extensive system set up with a Yamaha HTR-5760 7.1 receiver, 2 x E90 towers, EC25 center channel, and a pair of E30 rear speakers. This sub is the perfect complement to anyone's component home audio system. It excells in music and movie experiences, and the variable crossover and volume is great to custom tune to each situation. I cannot think of a better sub for the price on the market. It truly carries a great smooth sound not found in smaller subwoofers, and is easily capable of pressurizing standard size rooms. I am extremely pleased with this product and recommend it to anyone who doesn't have the thousand to drop on the ones that the "number driven" stores try to sell. A must buy...
