KLH ASW10-100 Powered Subwoofer

Summary: Great Sub, but only for a while...
Review: I bought the KLH 10" sub with high hopes. When I first got it 2 months ago it performed rather well. At low to mid volume levels it could play clean. At high volume levels it has a lot of port noise from the velocity of the air exiting. Last night the sub died. It began to exibit popping noises and is now deceased. If you buy this, don't expect it to last long at high volume levels as with any sub, it had it's limit. This peticular sub did not care for a band called "Nile." I wouldn't recommend this product for extreme volume levels, but it sure tried!

Summary: What are you people doing?
Review: I have to say, after hearing many different brands of audio equipment out there. KLH is the best deal I've seen yet. I see all these people saying how they have so many problems, what are you people doing to this sub for it to stop working that fast? It has an internal amp, that doesn't mean you need to use the speaker inputs with high amp and then have the gain up high. Are you running it for long periods with bass testers or something? Read the manual, it says to prevent long and loud bass for extended periods of time. Maybe you people just don't know how to use audio equipment the proper way and with care for the equipment as well. And anyways, just like with a car for instance, you don't get it and then floor it until you break it in a little, the same thing goes for audio equipment.
Besides the aspect of its "problems" people seem to have generated with this speaker, I would say it has the quality of some Velodyne subs, and they are almost 2 times the price for an 8" subwoofer. So, all I can say is, if you want an awesome stereo system and don't want to refinance your house, go with KLH for everything, I've had no problems with any of my equipment (Digital Dolby Receiver, Floors, Bookshelfs, Sub and my other stereo w/ 8" bookshelfs).

Review: I purchased the KLH ASW 10-100 as said in my other review. Originally it lasted less than two months, then the amp stopped working. Two and a half weeks later I recieved another amp from KLH for free. After installing the amp the sub only worked for less than two weeks. I have in no way abused this sub by playing it too loud, it simply lacks quality. Unfortunatly I have nothing to show for the $ I spent since amazon's return policy is 30 days. Whatever happend to the amp I also like to add that it is possibly a fire hazard as for my room smells like something has caught on fire.

Review: I was very pleased with the difference this product made in my home audio system, but about 16 months after purchase and regular use it stopped working. The repair was very costly, and the source of the trouble is still unknown.

Summary: The final piece of the digital home theater puzzle
Review: KLH has been around longer than many of its customers and their expertise is reflected in this product. The wiring diagram from the instruction manual has been copied onto a large page for ease of installation. When the speaker isn't receiving any bass information, it automatically goes into "standby" mode. This means you don't have to power the unit on and off each time you use your DVD. It connects either to a subwoofer port on your receiver or between the receiver and your two front speakers. The resulting output is very impressive with a THX theater feel during intense action sceens. Two suggestions: Aim the speaker into a corner for best effect and be sure to have some red and black 10 guage wire handy for the installation.
