Summary: Terrible Product Terrible service and NO PARTS!!!!!
Review: My wife purchased me a PB12 as a gift a little over a year ago. It lasted approximatly 6 or 7 months before blowing fuses like crazy. I returned it where i purchased it and they shipped it out for repair. I recieved it back and used it on and off for a bit. I never CRANKED it up or did anything abnormal and 4 or 5 months later BOOM, BUZZ, CRACKLE, and SMOKE!! Glad the house didn't burn down because this baby almost caught fire. What a great product JBL/Harmon you JERKS!!! Great job screwing the consumer and not fixing the problem or selling replacement parts after two years. This product should have been recalled and fixed. IT IS DANGEROUS!! READ ALL THESE REVIEWS CAREFULLY. The people that say it is a great product most likely have not had it for a year. Give them time they will blow up on you too! Please do not purchase anything from JBL/Harmon or Infiniti. They are all realated companies. If you do you will join the $350.00 paper weight club just like me and the rest of us suckers who purchased this product.

Summary: BAD SPEAKER
Review: Should have read the reviews before purchasing this sub. It lasted 2 days and then started smoking and the amp blew. Luckily it did not start a fire. I have the PSW 1000 10" JBL sub and it works great, but can't say the same for the PB12. Luckily store left me return it and now I have a Klipsch and it is wonderful. It kicks the JBL's butt!!!

Summary: Same as evryone else. Amp blew right after warranty.
Review: Sounded great for a year. Then loud popping and buzzing. I got it fixed under warranty. It was a fuse. The good times lasted about 3 months before I came home to a dead sub. No little red lights, no power, no nothing. I took it in to a shop and guess what? Amp module is bad but, they don't sell it anymore. WTF?!?! It's only a year and a half old! It's out of warranty so I think I'm screwed. Hey, at least I have a $350.00 paper weight. DAMN YOU JBL!!!!

Summary: Failed amp module, no support
Review: Sounded great. Articulate and powerful bass response- for a while.

The power amp module died shortly after the warranty expired. The JBL repair center called after three weeks to tell me that JBL will no longer sell replacement amp modules. I'll probably salvage the speaker and toss the rest in the dumpster. The cabinet isn't high enough to use as a coffe table.

JBL is still selling the PB12 but will not provide parts for them. They will exchange the sub while it's under warranty. After that you're on your own. Keep your receipt.

I'll think long and hard before spending money on JBL products again.

Summary: Don't even bother!
Review: The thing sounds awesome when it works, unfortunately it won't work for long. In the past three years, I've now gone through three of these, two of which were replaced by the dealer. Now the third has blown (keeps blowing fuses, even with nothing hooked up to it). I even got a top-of-the-line protection circuit for it because they were telling me it was blowing because of other things in my house - riiiight.

For what this unit costs, it shouldn't have these problems, even at the discounted [price]

Don't think I'll be buying any JBL products any more!

Summary: Best Sub
Review: This is by far the best subwoofer that I have come across so far.

Summary: good but bad
Review: This is no doubt a great deal for the money (I but mine used in December of 2003 on an auction site for $200 total), and like many have said here, it "kicks butt." It sounded great for awhile, but it has a known flaw that can't be repaired. I'm guessing that for all owners, the subwoofer will go out, and the part that will go bad cannot be replaced (the S64AMI power module). This part of the subwoofer is under a one year warranty. Anyone doubting this flaw has not done their homework, and/or has yet to have their subwoofer burn up. I emailed JBL tech support with my story and that my future with JBL was in question. I got a pleasant reply that basically agreed with my assessment (that it was a faulty design and can't be repaired) and said if it was under warranty or within 6 months or so of warranty, I'd get a free replacement. The replacement is the JBL E250P, which looks like basically the same unit. The respondent claimed that the updated design was more reliable and more repairable (none of these rare, expensive proprietary parts like the S64AMI).

He also said that if it was not under warranty, I could buy this newer subwoofer for $211.77 ($188 + $23.77 shipping), which lists at over $400. After scouring ebay and the internet for equivalent deals, the best I could find was a similar Harmon Kardon (but only 150W vs. 250W for about $200 shipped...and HK owns JBL), or this replacement JBL for about $260 shipped. So, as a cheapskate, I actually opted to go back into the fire and try JBL again for the $212. Considering I bought my PB12 used for $200 on audiogon.com and that with the new one, I'll have a fresh warranty, it still seemed like the best deal. If I'm made a fool (further), I'll let you all know. Look for my review of the JBL E250P I will soon be receiving...

Summary: Screwed by JBL Crap!!!!
Review: This is not a group I wanted to join, but I too have this crap for crap subwoofer and it too has blown up, two years after purchase. Playing along with a quiet song and "BOOM!!!", monster feedback, noise, etc. Reading the other reviews is not encouraging, but I will get on JBL's case.

Deplorable quality. Class action suit is indeed indicated.

NEVER BUY JBL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!!!!!!
