Summary: Can't push it like a 'Polka', but worth the dough
Review: If you have a minor league home theater (mine's a 220w Aiwa shelf system), this'll add plenty of rumble, boom and fill. Just don't turn the volume and crossover up to 10 at the same time. Has all the basic options you need. The one nominal detraction is it can get a little sloppy on rapid bass kicks, ala a double bass fill.

Review: In response to the review of the KLH asw 10-120 powered subwoofer submitted by Linda Greenberg.... Have you tried tinkering with the crossover settings on your sub? I also have a receiver that operates with 100 watts a channel. My receiver has a subwoofer out jack as well, which puts about 100 watts to my sub. This "car exhaust" noise you hear is the result of too much strain on your sub.It can be remedied. Personally, I rate this sub 4 stars. It gives plenty of bang for the buck! My advice for new owners is to play around with the crossover settings to try to match the subwoofer's sound to your system, and the rest of your room. There are certain factors in a room that can hamper potentially good sound quality. First, check the placement of the sub. Is there an obstruction blocking the port? Subs tend to sound best in a corner of a room. The wall acts as a sound reflector and enhances the bass ( this of course is by my own experience). However, anyone can modify placement and frequency to their own personal needs. My KLH sub has operated without a problem for almost 2 years now, and it adds plenty of thump to my system. So, in the case of Ms. Greenberg, check your settings and try not to turn other people off to the product because you don't know what you're doing! This is a good sub, and an affordable one as well. Granted, the bass is a little boomy, but I have yet to experience a problem with this sub that cannot be rectified by a simple tweaking of the knobs. Yes, there are better subs out there, but for the money, you can't go wrong here!

Summary: Good while it lasted
Review: Just like so many other people have reported about KLH subwoofers, mine just burned up. 6 days after the warranty expired - figures. My whole house now smells likes burnt hair. I never pushed this speaker; it just died from a congenital defect. Bad amp design = early death. The repair cost is more than the unit's worth so this one goes to the landfill.

Review: Shopper obviously never had a good set of KLH speakers Match KLH with any other speaker of the similar cost BRAND NEW and i am sure that KLH will blow the heck out of them I have never had a better set of speakers for that price.... Give KLH a chance and i am sure you will not regret it

Summary: Excelent subwoofer
Review: Some people say it is bad, but i found it to be excellent when you hook it up in a certain way. If you hook it up through the speaker wires it will distort when you turn it up loud, but if you connect it to the subwoofer preout on your reciever it will not distort. It sounds excellent. It rumbles the floors incredibly. I would buy one of theses subwoofers before i would buy a JBL powered subwoofer. THe price is excellent. Non J B

Summary: Wow, I didn't even break $100.
Review: There's no room to complain when you get a 10-inch sub and a 120W amp with crossover for under $100. Very easy and simple to hook up, nice and simple black square box design hides nicely under my desk. I bought it to enhance my musical environment in my bedroom, and it definitely has! I'll probably hook it up occasionally to my living room home theater system for a few movies, but it's main stay will be in my bedroom connected to my Aiwa NSX-V8000 component system, which is connected to my computer for "mp3 heaven". My roommate hates me now, and probably also the neighbors on my floor. Oh well, sucks for them.

Summary: At High Volumes Its Limitations Become Clear
Review: This is an affordable powered sub with specifications on paper that seem acceptable. For awhile I had been using this sub with the cross over set at 50hz and the volume dial set at about 7.5 out of 10. This seemed to be working alright until while I was watching a few DVD's and listening to various CD's I noticed that there was a rattling noise coming from the port. Other than turning the volume down I could find no solution to the port problem. At high volumes the sub itself seems to have problems handling the power from the amp. Even with the crossover set at 50hz(The lowest available) you can't even attempt to push the sub to 9 or 10 on the volume dial. The semi-solution I came up with to overcome the limitations was to turn the crossover to 150hz and turn down the volume to 6. It seems to sound alright now. So, At higher volumes this sub has some definite limitations.

Review: This thing stopped working after 3 months. I called and they offered nothing in the way of customer support. There was nowhere to take to get it fixed. IT wouldn't have been worth the money. It was fine WHILE IT WORKED!! but that wasn't for very long. I guess it's true what they say, you get what you pay for.

Review: Well i wrote a review on this sub a while back and my thoughts have changed. Scince then i got a teac 110 watt per chanell a/v home theatre reciever and all i have to say is first my old stereo with a pathetic 15 watts per chanell is a piece of @#$! and second with this sub hooked up to my pre amp out with rca plugs it sounds alot better. Much more tight and alot less muddy. Also you need to have GOOD cables hooking everything up first i used a oem cable that came with my reciever and now i use a rs gold shielded conector. And also that instead of a sock in the bass port it helps to just line the sides with polyfill like i did. What do you expect for the 99 dollars i paid for it. Still a great deal from klh. BUY IT PEOPLE YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED

Summary: An ok buy.
Review: Well, I own two of these (One Personally bought, one given to me), and I must say, they are by far an awesome buy for what they cost.

Now for the not-so-good parts:

The frequency response starts a little high. This is no problem to the untrained ear, but you start missing out on all the lower audible frequencies (From 20-30hz). The amplifier is only 120 watts max, which is ok for the driver itself, but in terms of use, is only good for a small room (Any bigger, and you would need to upgrade to a more powerfull driver, and amp, or a whole new sub alltogether). The stock amp that it comes with works well, just don't crank up the volume to far, or you will run the risk of frying your amp, and screwing up your driver (Which, for some reason, doesn't take much effort to do)

A small problem I have been having with one of my subs, is that when I adjust the crossover frequency, it makes my sub go haywire. It kicks and pushed forward with tremendous force. It makes me glad it has such a strong sorround, and spider, or else it would just take off right out of the cabinet. An easy way to remidie this, is to just turn it of, then adjust, then turn it on again. Everything works fine after that.

Over all, this is a great buy for the price ($80-$110), and,if treated properly, will last you for a long time of use.
