Summary: Good Electronics - but speakers rot
Review: My selection of the Onkyo HT-S760 was swayed by two factors. First, the generally good customer reviews and my recollection of Onkyo's reputation for quality component design. After a very easy setup session (the supplied speaker cables are not useful except for smalish rooms) I inserted a favorite, special effects filled, DVD expecting great things and then stunned disbelief!! I've heard better sound coming from my old "build your own crystal radio" set, especially poor at lower volume levels. Forget music CD's unless you're just looking for background noise while cooking dinner.

I had no real problems with the receiver's design or feature set other than the omission of at least one Digital (Optical) output, (they give you optical inputs only)

I was replacing a middling good audiophile (20 year veteran) quality system that had seen better days and figured the state of speaker design must have progressed leaps and bounds in that time but I've been sadly mistaken on this point. My recommendation is ratchet your expectation levels down a notch or two before installing this bad boy. Rank this with the $299 Home Theater units you can get at any local appliance store..

Summary: Fantastic product
Review: Plenty of power to drive the six speakers and ample volume level. Speakers not as robust as originally led to beleive...however, for $500 it's hard to beat the good sound quality generated by this system...given the size of our room and general listening preferences. If your listening preferences don't demand the loudest volume level you can except good sound quality, (but is less quality/purity than what you would get from much more expensive speakers), then this system is very good! Can't really complian and would recommend anyone wanting a 1st time HTS to investigage this unit before making your buying decision...it can rock and maintain fairly pure sound reproduction at moderate volume levels...but have noticed some distortion and less than 100% clarity at upper end levels!

Review: This is a great system. Now, I'm not a serious audiophile, I'm kinda just a regular guy looking for a good sound system. I read a ton of reviews for this and all said it's the best bang for the buck. It's 6.1, not 5.1, and the receiver has all the inputs you'd ever want. It's well worth it I think to pay the extra one or two hundred dollars for Onkyo quality, the great receiver, and 6.1 rather than 5.1.

Also, I got this from a site called onecall.com brand new for $475 no tax no shipping. That was by far the cheapest. Onecall.com is an authorized internet dealer on the Onkyo website so I wasn't too worried.

Summary: Stop looking for an entry level HTS - this is it!!!
Review: This is hands down the best bang for your buck. I would challenge anyone to find a better system for this money.

There are enough inputs to cover all your needs. I have my DVD player, TV and xbox all hooked up.

Step by Step Review:

Components:
You won't get a better set of inputs/outputs for this money. 6 speakers that are adequate for 99% of us normal users. Subwoofer is powered on its own and good enough to handle most requirements.

Setup:
Its easy to setup. I had the entire system setup in less than half a day. Color co-ordinated wires with the speakers. Easy to follow instructions to setup each component.

Use:
The remote is busy but is easy to use. Nothing complicated here.

Sound Quality:
Great sound, it may not meet the needs of those who want professional sound (those people are better off spending the 2k-5K to get a full quality compenent system) but it is good enough that I can't find faults. I would recommend buying better speaker wire as you will notice the difference.

Misc:
I love the ability to use digital audio connections! And the price... c'mon can you find a better HTS for this cost.

Buy this system and enjoy home theater sound during sports and movies.

Summary: Great Home Theater System
Review: This is my first full home theater system and I've been very happy with it. The price isn't too outrageous for a system of this quality.

There are plenty of A/V inputs on the receiver, including 2 component video inputs for high definition sources (Digital Cable, DVD, X-Box, etc.) and three digital inputs (2 optical, one coaxial). Also, all of the video inputs have s-video connections which is a plus. Of course you can rarely have too many connections and I've already had to settle with what was given. My one complaint concerning connections is the lack of a digital output which is desirable for recording with CDs, DVDs, and minidisc.

I've been very pleased with the output of the speakers included. I'm not exactly and audiophile but I can tell low quality from high and these are high quality speakers for a system at this price. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the speaker cables could be a higher quality and a bit longer though. Also the rear speakers are bigger than many other home theater systems but you'll have to decide if that's a problem based on the size of your room

The receiver's abilities are superb. Dolby Digital and DTS support plus DSP modes for stereo sources is great. Movies sound awesome and music is great as well.

Finally, setup is easy thanks to color coded cables. The remote control works great even with other components (TVs, VCRs, DVD, etc.).
