Summary: Your paying for that cool plastic case.
Review: After trying a number of smaller 'set-top' antennas with zero success, I decided to try the Terk TV55. I purchased at Circuit City for their ease of return, even though there were lower prices online. Turns out I will not need to return this unit. I live in a heavily wooded townhome community and was nervous about my chances to receive local digital channels, even though the transmitters are less than 20 miles from my house. I opened up the box and had it connected to my Hughes HTL-HD receiver within 2 minutes. I bought 15' of RG6 cable (beware: the unit only comes with 3'), thinking that I would need to route the antenna outside under an eave or wherever. Well, I didn't even have to go that far. As soon as I flipped to my local digital channels (we have 20 here in Norfolk), I was AMAZED at the reception quality. No drop-outs or pixellation. And this was by just having the antenna INDOORS, ON TOP OF MY TV!!!! Now that I know I can get such great results, I plan on mounting it outdoors so I don't have to look at it indoors. Well, that's it. I have never written a review here before, but I just wanted to add my two - cents worth after getting such terrific results with the Terk TV55. Thanks Terk! My next step was going to be a monstrous YAGI type antenna on the roof, so I am obviously happy that I didn't have to go that route. Great product...works as promised. Good luck to you.

Summary: Really Works for HDTV
Review: Couldn't get analog (NTSC) reception to come in very clear, but was able to get perfect HDTV reception after moving the antenna to different parts of the house (indoor). The higher up the better. With HDTV you will either get perfect reception or no reception at all. When I first plugged it in, I was hoping it would be plug and play. But you really have to point the antenna perfectly or you won't get a picture. It took some adjusting, but it was definitely worth the time. The HDTV picture is breath-taking! As long as you have a HDTV set-top receiver, HD-Ready TV, and live in/near an area broadcasting HDTV, then I can't find much fault in this antenna.

Summary: A expensive piece of junk! - 0 stars!
Review: I am 5 miles from the HDTV tower in Baltimore (3 stations) - I can see the tower from my window. This piece of junk, even when mounted outside, could not hold on to the signals. A coat hanger did a better job. Found a great (and cheap) indoor HDTV antenna on ... Brings in all 3 HDTV stations perfectly.

Review: I am so dissapointed by this product! I used to have a cheap antenna that would get me two channels with decent picture and that's it. I wanted to get all the broadcast channels, and according to the box I could get better with this antenna. While it's true I do get more channels, they come in horribly- and the two channels that I did get with the old antenna well, they come in worse now. I live in San Jose, and all the transmitters are on hills and we live in a valley, so mountains and hills shouldn't be an issue. I will be packing this antenna up and taking it back. I STRONGLY recommend you do not purchase this antenna. It's definately not worth the cost.

Summary: A poor performer...
Review: I bought Terk TV55 for my RCA F38310, an HDTV. Considering the price, I thought it would be one of the best in the market, but to my surprise, the signal reception was EXTREMELY poor. So I returned the unit and purchased Winegard HD-7080, an outdoor antenna, instead. This HD-7080's been performing well so far, enabling me to receive all the "picture perfect" HD signals from local stations (*CBS, NBC, ABC, KCET, etc) in the greater Los Angeles area. If you're looking for a reliable HDTV antenna for over-the-air HD signals, pass Terk TV55 and consider either Winegard or Channel Master. (A side note: Preamps manufactured by Winegard or Channel Master will greatly improve the overall reception. I have Winegard AP8275 to compliment my HD-7080, and these units give me the clearest picture imaginable!)

Summary: Location is Key
Review: I bought this antenna to replace a Terk TV4. I wanted to get better reception on some weak UHF stations.
I was a little leery of the TV55 based on the negative reviews, but I wanted something I could mount on the back porch if necessary. I was very pleasantly surprised. True, in my living room it didn't do much better than an indoor antenna. But out on the porch it's fantastic. I'm getting VHF from about 40 miles away and UHF to 25 or so. And this is an urban neighborhood with lots of tall buildings.
Best features are the versatile mounting options and the inline amp, which greatly improves UHF signals. Drawbacks are that it's expensive, and works much better outside than inside.
Most importantly you should look for the best reception location before you buy. My living room is tough for TV but the porch is fine. It sounds like some of the negative reviewers don't understand that it varies from room to room.

Summary: Worthless
Review: I bought this product hoping to boost my signal strength over the Terk TV-5 that I currently have..what a waste of time and money. Not only did it not pick up the signal very well, it was worse than the lesser grade Terk TV-5 that I already have. I have DirecTV but want to pick up the Local HDTV signals in my area better. If anyone has any ideas, email me at jeff. Be careful before you buy .

Summary: spotty at best
Review: I bought this to replace our amplified rabbit ears. It didn't help. I expected to have to mount it in the attic to get a higher reception plane. I tried several locations with little improvement. the one spot it worked was when it was laying loosely ontop of some boxes while choosing the next place (my wife was scanning channels at the time). Obviously I could not secure it there. Moving it a few inches destroyed the reception. I finally bought a RCA ANT 3022 indoor/outdoor non amplified antenna and installed it in the attic. it worked well and even better when I purchased an inline amp. All this was cheaper than the $100 the Terk 55 cost. If you have space I'd try a traditional antenna like you grew up with.
