Philco Two-tone Turntable - 841-169

Summary: Maybe I got the bad apple, but...
Review: Alright, I gave the Philco two stars, but I'm not sure if I'm being generous or vengeful. Check it out: the unit looks nice enough, although that plastic face should probably be brass or anything OTHER than plastic in order to uphold the retro feel. But I'm not here to gripe about the cosmetics of the player. The one I received would not play records. It would play CDs and AM/FM acceptably (not much EQ control, though). But it would not play records. Set the unit to Phono mode, move the stylus to the record, and the turntable will start spinning. Simple enough, right? Well, apparently not. I couldn't even coax it into producing whirring/grinding/clickling noises that would suggest that its sensors were working, but that the motor was in some way broken. Just nothing. I've returned the unit and ordered a different one.

So maybe mine was just a lemon, but no matter what else is going on, it was missing its remote control when it arrived, and that seems to suggest that the quality control over at Philco is somewhat lacking.
