Summary: Excellent HDTV Amazing SOUND
Review: I've been procrastinating to buy an HDTV since December. I kept saying to myself, If I just wait another week or two, the prices will go lower and I'll get a better TV. Well, I finally decided to go with this toshiba after reading all the great reviews. The reviews are right, and its def worth the 5 stars. The picture quality is great, and the sound is the best I've heard from a 30" TV. If your looking for a great HDTV at an amazing price, go with this one. The fact that the speakers are on the bottom as opposed to the sides is a great thing because it fit in where my old 27" sat for about 12 years. (no kidding, 12 years!)

Summary: TOSHIBA HDTV's ARE DEFECTED
Review: I've had a bad experience with my 34HF83 TV set. It worked fine on standard definition, but on high definition I noticed periodic (once in 5-10 minutes) horizontal jerking to the left. The problem is more likely to appear if the set was switched off for about 5 minutes prior to testing. After about two hours the problem disappears. Picture quality is very good, excellent design, but I hate this problem with horizontal jerking. I called for service and they confirmed that this is a known problem and they are working to find the solution. The problem was also found in some other TV sets, like 30HF83. Unfortunately most customers don't notice the problem because it happens only on high definition, and noticeable only on relatively static scenes. I am happy that I noticed this problem before my warranty expired. But my concern it that most people don't have high definition receivers these days. I think they will be very unhappy in a couple of years when they connect their Toshiba HDTV to a high definition source and realize they have a jerking picture. They would have to pay big money to fix their TVs and this is'nt fair. If you are the owner of any Toshiba HDTV set, you should connect it to a high definition signal (cable, satellite, HDTV computer adapter or special signal generator), switch your TV set off for 5 minutes, then switch the TV set on, switch the source to a HIGH DEFINITION static picture (for example, HDTV receiver setup menu, just make sure the output is high definition) and carefully watch it for 5-10 minutes. If you notice any horizontal jerking, make sure to call for service before your warranty expires. If you can't get the problem fixed, you should at least get the warranty extension. This problem is found in all 83 series Toshiba TV sets: 30HF83, 34HF83, 34HFX83, etc...

Summary: Broken, Cockeyed, and a Mess
Review: Item came with the picture have sideways. Of course, read the fine print, read the fine print, Amazon does nothing for you, Nothing! So think real, real hard before you purchase a major product over the internet. I now have a piece of garbage in my living room and I am out a thousand dollars. No dealers locally will come to your home unless you bought from them and it weighs a ton. Never, never again!! Beware.

Summary: Great TV for the Price
Review: Just received the new 30 inch Toshiba, chosen in part for the outstanding features for the price and because I had a compact cabinet to fit it into. Wanted an LCD tv but first cost and screen size (width vs height) made fit for anything more than a 24 inch model impossible. Why don't these folks 'get it' and put the speakers underneath to save width?

Anyway, the Toshiba arrived (from a non Amazon source who was cheaper) and it is fabulous. Both in function, sound and DVD movies which are incredibly sharp and vivid.

This Toshiba is highly recommended as a poor man's alternative to the high cost LCD approach. I have a smaller 15 inch Phillips LCD in the kitchen that is equally great, but has nothing on the Toshiba except for its very compact (thin) size.

Summary: An Outstanding Purchase!
Review: The Toshiba 30HF83 offers many great features that can be hard to find at it's size. I was looking for a 30"-34" Widescreen HDTV Tube that would fit in my existing entertainment center, and this Toshiba is perfect for me!
The 2 sets of component inputs were just what I wanted to use to connect my Xbox (The Monster Cable XGL-400 works wonderfully) and for receiving a High Definition signal. The picture clarity for each is more than I had hoped for! Widescreen DVD's look superb in comparison to the 4:3 aspect ratio, and my Gamecube also looks amazing connected through the S-Video input.
You can switch between all of your inputs through the front panel of the TV or through the remote control. Individual picture preferences can also be saved for each input. This is a great benefit when switching from playing video games to watching movies or an HDTV signal. The Onscreen Menu is remarkably simple and through the use of the 'Auto Aspect' feature you won't need to frequently adjust your picture size. Standard TV also looks quite good, but it is a bit harder to watch after experiencing some HD channels.
I highly recommend the Toshiba 30HF83 to anyone looking for an amazing quality Widescreen HDTV, complete with many great features, to acommodate a smaller viewing area.

Summary: Great TV at a great price
Review: This is my second week with this TV, purchased for $799 - an UNBELIEVABLE deal when compared to other sites and other TVs. Haven't tested dvi but the component hd signal is outstanding - dvds are very good and hd tv signals are very clear and crisp.

The sound is very, very good for an "all-in-one" set. This unit includes a subwoofer that has its own settings, very impressive.

Decent remote although I am having a little trouble with it commanding my jvc dvd.

What a deal -

Summary: Best Little HDTV
Review: Very impressive TV - has all the features of more expensive sets, like 2-tuner PIP, 2 component-video inputs for your DVD and Satellite - and the great HDTV picture quality as well. Eight inputs total, will direct access between them.

Extra surprises include built-in subwoofer (so movies sound awesome right out of the box) and 4:3-to-16:9 'stretching' that is almost imperceptible. Great menu system and many options. Built-in speakers are beneath the screen, so the footprint is similar to standard 33" sets (don't have to buy new entertainment center!)

One minor drawback to me is the PIP is actually POP, picture-outof-picture. The two images are side by side, but use the screen area inefficiently and no overlapping or PIP option.

Would buy another...

Review: When I visited Amazon.com couple of days ago, it was priced at $799 and today it shows $1099, thats a $300 difference.. Any clues why they had to hike it for so much.????
