Rating: Summary: Great TV for the price! Review: After reading many reviews and having past experience with Toshiba (good ones), my wife and I took the plunge and bought this projection tv (Toshiba 57H83 57" HDTV-Ready TheaterWide Projection TV). Other than the slow shipping, when arrived, it was amazingly easy to set up, with automated focusing to line up the 3 cathode rays. The picture is incredible. We don't even have cable or satellite, using just an aerial antennae, and still, just an incredible picture. The image is even viewable from side angles without much degradation of the picture. The one gripe I have is that for some unknown reason if a wrong button is hit on the remote by accident, it has changed the default input setting from antenna to cable. Mostly a minor annoyance. Other than that, the menus are easy to navigate and the front panel with the video 3 inputs are nice. Component video on the back is really nice with a progressive scan DVD. Makes a big difference! I'd recommend it to anyone and am pleased so far with the quality from Toshiba. Other information, we've had the tv about 3 months now with no issues, paid 1799 through Amazon directly, shipping was very slow though, took about a month and a half total.
Rating: Summary: Stay Away Review: Although I love Toshiba products and almost all my electronics are Toshiba, they blew it with this one. I was excited when I bought this right when the tv was released in Summer 2003. The first 6 months were awesome! great picture, sound, you name it. Then the picture went out, I've read about how widespread this problem is with this model, even my repair company has no clue when they will get the Scan Board part in, because it's been backordered. I called Toshiba, and the rep had no clue about anything widespread. Good waste of the $ I paid for it new.
Rating: Summary: Bad picture Review: I can't believe this TV received high marks from Consumer digest. The picture in HDTV looks like an Andy Warhol painting. Normal TV also looks very fuzzy. The DNR filter does not seem to be doing anything.
Rating: Summary: Good picture when not broken... Review: I had this TV for less than a month and the picture was great. However, the HD picture went bad and the technician said it was a component call the Hyper-PCB Board. The part has been backordered by Toshiba for over three months now. They're not sure when the part will arrive, and there are so many backordered, I may have to wait for several batches to be produced and shipped.
Rating: Summary: Excellent price and quality! Review: I have had this tv for 5 weeks now and have not had a single problem. I too read the negative reviews but i took my chances because i have never had a problem with a toshiba product. I have 2 toshiba laptops, this 57h83 projection tv and a 36" toshiba tube tv, and I can say that I will still buy toshiba products in the future. The HD channels from my cable company are stunning on this tv and i am 100% satisfied with it. For $1500 i couldn't pass this tv up.
Rating: Summary: Great TV! Review: I have had this tv for about 2 weeks. I was leary after reading some people having problems with this model, but I said what the heck and got one anyway. To say this is a great tv would be an understatement. The picture is the best I have seen compared to other models in this price range. My 8 & 12 yr old can run the different features on the remote. (still teaching my wife). I do not regret getting this model one bit.
Rating: Summary: Great TV Review: I looked at many TV's and read many reviews before buying this TV and think the picture quality of this one is among the best. Another important and uncommon feature of this television is that splits into two pieces for easier moving. These 57" rear projection televisions are huge, and if you ever plan on moving them, this feature is important. It's not always possible to get the T.V.s that don't split into some apartments. I was orginally getting a Sony, but the delivery guys couldn't get it into my apartment. I've had it for a few weeks and am very satisfied so far.

Rating: Summary: Excellent TV, Excellent Price, Excellent Shipping Review: I've only had the TV a few days, but I have to say its spectacular. It worked great right out of the box and has an awesome picture. I was particularly impressed with Amazon and the shipping company. The Amazon price including shipping was over $300 less than Best Buy's best sales price (with tax). I was a little worried about shipping such a beast, but it came on a pallet, they wheeled it right in and it was set up in about 15 minutes flat. FABULOUS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE. 5 STARS.
Rating: Summary: Nice Pic, about as reliable as a 1986 Yugo; BEWARE!! Review: My wife and I were excited at finding such a good TV at a semi-reasonable price ($1900); we had owned a Toshiba 26 inch for 11 years without a hitch. Much like the some of the other reviews, about two months after we bought it; POP! The screen went blank. After a week and a half of waiting, Toshiba sent out repair people and fixed it. They replaced something they called a reflection board. Then, a month later; POP! Same problem. No picture, and now the part is on backorder. No one can tell us when it will arrive. I've been told to FAX a copy of our receipt to them and they will consider replacement. Why do I think that will take even weeks longer? We have a brand-new TV that refuses to work, and Toshiba is being zero help. SHAME on Toshiba for not recalling this piece of JUNK! DO yourself a favor; if you are looking to buy this TV, just keep on looking and save yourself a MAJOR headache!
