Description:

With the ability to display more than a billion colors, 1,536 shades of gradation, and a contrast ratio of 3,000:1, Panasonic's 50-inch 16:9 HD-capable flat-panel plasma TV brings images to life in vivid color and extraordinarily deep contrast. Ready for use straight out of the box, it features a built-in NTSC TV tuner and five integrated stereo speakers. You can also connect it to your computer to serve as a monitor. It offers resolution of up to 1,366 x 768 pixels (with a pixel pitch, or spacing, of 0.81 x 0.81 millimeters) and an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare. The motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter further increases brightness and clarity.

Progressive Cinema Scan (3:2 pulldown) reassembles the frame sequence of your original film-based content from DVDs to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material. In addition, two-tuner picture-in-picture with resizable windows allows you to watch more than one program at a time. BBE ViVA HD3D sound simulates surround sound using only two speakers and without distorting dialogue, and AI sound keeps the volume at a constant level, compensating for those jarring ups and downs. Five integrated Bass Reflex speakers and the capability for surround sound round out the audio system.

The TV's onscreen menus are available in English, Spanish, and French, and it can display Closed Captioning for the hearing impaired or silent viewing. Settings for use with you computer may be made through the separate PC menu.

The built-in NTSC receiver allows you to use the TV to receive broadcasts or when connected to an appropriate source such as cable TV or an optional external antenna. However, the manufacturer notes that an over-the-air antenna or optional set-top receiver are required to view DTV programming, and if your cable company "passes through" a DTV signal unchanged, an optional HDTV set-top receiver can decode and tune the program. Panasonic notes that standards for cable connectivity have not been finalized, however, so you should make sure this product is compatible with your cable system.

The TH-50PX20U/P allows you to connect your DVD player and one other device using high-quality component video, and also offers S-Video, composite-video inputs for connecting a camcorder or game console, and HDMI (HDCP) inputs, as well as an RGB-VGA connection for computer hookup. Audio and video inputs are located on both the front and the back of the TV for easy access. The TH-50PX20U/P includes a pedestal stand.
