Description:

Sharp's 20-inch LC-20PX1U Open AQUOS liquid crystal TV helps eliminate the tangle and clutter associated with traditional home entertainment while making your home network more functional. Featuring dual Type II PCMCIA PC Card slots and a supplied 5 GB HDD card, the Open AQUOS set gives you the option to view digital still photos, listen to digital audio files (WMA, MP3), watch video clips, and more--from most common flash-memory media or directly from your PC via a WiFi connection (optional wireless PC Card adapter required for networking).

The slots can run simultaneously, and the included HDD card lets the set function like a DVR (digital video recorder), recording up to 4 hours of programming for time-shifted viewing or for future archiving to tape or disc. This card includes onscreen guides for effortless recording, fast forward, and rewind. A built-in microphone even lets family members record quick messages and reminders for each other.

You can also watch slide shows of your favorite digital stills using your camera's SD Card, SmartMedia, MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash, and/or Memory Stick cards. If you want to send photos or music files from your PC to the Open AQUOS set in another part of your home, most WiFi adapter cards will do the trick with ease. The set even offers built-in games to keep everyone entertained.

The LC-20PX1U is under 3 inches thin, offers high-quality built-in speakers powered by 2 watts per channel, and features Sharp's exclusive Advanced Super View panel with Black TFT low-reflection coating for leading-edge brightness, contrast, and viewing angles. The 4:3 Enhanced Definition (EDTV) monitor has several input/output jacks: connections consist of 1 progressive-scan component-video input, 2 composite-video inputs, 1 S-video input. The set accepts HDTV signals from DTV set-top boxes, scaling them for display on its 640 x 480-pixel screen.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

The LC-20PX1U's Advanced Super View/black TFT (thin-film-transistor) screen offers exceptionally wide (170- by 170-degree) viewing angles and an high contrast ratio of 500:1 for super-black blacks. Its high brightness (430 cd/m2) ensures wide dynamic range for vivid colors, great depth, and realism. You can place it anywhere--near windows, doors, or other light sources--and its picture will remain vivid. And, with its 60,000-hour lamp life, the backlight life is long enough to give you viewing pleasure for many years.
