Description:

You'll get amazing clarity and multimedia functionality with the Sony KDL-32XBR950 WEGA 32-inche, high-definition, flat-panel LCD (liquid crystal display) television, which includes a separate media receiver with built-in Firewire inputs and Memory Stick slot. It has a twin-view feature that lets you watch high-definition and analog programs simultaneously, as well as an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Quality Assessment Measurement (QAM)-compatible tuner. It features a sleek, floating-screen design and simplified installation, thanks to the included separate media box that connects to the panel with a single cable. Rather than having to struggle with getting to the back of the panel, additional video sources can easily be connected to the conveniently located media box instead.

The KDL32XBR950's Sony WEGA engine delivers superb picture quality from any video source by minimizing the signal deterioration caused by digital-to-analog conversion and stabilizing the signal processing. Some of the Sony technology that's built into the WEGA engine includes:

  • Digital Reality Creation (DRC-MF V1): Unlike conventional line doublers, the DRC Multifunction feature replaces the signal's NTSC wave form with the near-HD equivalent by digital mapping processing. The DRC Palette option enables you to customize the level of detail and smoothness to create up to three custom palettes.
  • Multi-Image Driver (MID-XU): This enables you to watch two programs side by side (with the Twin View feature), as well as from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i).
  • LCD Driver IC: The newly developed LCD driver IC improves "afterimage" in motion pictures by improving the response time in the middle luminance range, making movement of images on the screen much smoother.

You can also view video and images and listen to digital audio from other sources thanks to two special inputs. The KDL32XBR950 has a Memory Stick slot, enabling you to view images captured from your digital camera or listen to MP3 audio files. The iLink (Firewire) input provides a secure digital interface to other digital home entertainment devices, like a digital video camera (not intended for connection with PCs).

Other features include a contrast enhancer that adapts to brightness of scenes, automatically adjusting the backlight and contrast to appropriate level to improve dark scenes; a widescreen mode for watching conventional 4:3 aspect ratio broadcasts in cinema-style 16:9 aspect ratio; a CineMotion function, which provides an optimized display by automatically detecting film content and applying a reverse 3:2 pulldown process; the option to preview and select from 16 favorite channels; and consistent sound output between programs and commercials with the Steady Sound function. Input/outputs include 1 DVI-HDTV terminal (compliant with the EIA-861 standard and not for use with PCs), 3 video ins (1 on front panel), 3 S-Video ins (1 on front panel), 6 audio ins (1 on front panel), 2 component-video (Y, Pb, Pr), 3 iLink inputs (1 on front panel), 2 RF inputs, and 1 digital audio optical output.

Tech Talk

  • 480i resolution: Provides 480 lines of resolution; displays images using interlaced scanning, which first transmits all the odd-numbered lines on the TV screen and then the even lines.
  • 480p/720p resolution: Provides 480/720 (respectively) lines of resolution; displays images using progressive scanning, which transmits each line from the top to bottom.
  • 1080i resolution: Provides 1,080 lines of resolution. One of the resolution formats used by HDTV (high-definition TV), it displays images using interlaced scanning.
