Summary: Good for blocking plane noise, but a bit tight.
Review: Excellent noise-cancelling, where the noise is mostly bass and all-pervading (e.g. inside a plane in flight, or near to rumbling air-conditioning). It's not so good at supressing high frequencies (inevitably, 'cos of the laws of physics), so the job I wanted it to do - blocking out other people's voices when I'm trying to concentrate in the office - is beyond it's abilities, sadly. It makes the voices quieter, but it makes the rumbing air-conditioning and other background stuff quieter still, so the voices actually become more obvious, especially if the person talking is within 6 feet of you. Also, I find the rigid plastic head band tries to squeeze my head while I'm wearing the thing, but maybe that's just 'cos I have a big head! =:o} The weight and bulk of the battery on one side of the headband makes them a bit lop-sided. I'd prefer to see the electronics built into the cable, rather than weighing down the headpiece istelf. They're certainly the most affordable noise-cancelling headphones I've found anywhere, and do a great job or reproducing whatever music you're playing through them, and thus they're good value if, like me, you're not quite sure it's worth shelling out a fortune on an experimental idea: At least if the noise-cancellation doesn't do the trick for you, you'll still have a decent pair of headphones for occasional use! =:o}

Summary: Great Headphones
Review: I read alot of bad reviews on this product but decided to buy them anyway because the price was right ($$$$ used). I don't know what the complaints are about. These are really good sounding headphones & they do block out a major portion of the noise around you. I use headphones to listen to music while I mow the grass. Normally I have to play the music very loud (bad for your ears) to be able to hear it over the mower. The headphones sound good without noise cancel on. When I turn on the noise reduction the music simply gets louder & clearer. Nothing else. No other sound. Just clear music. I am now able to mow away with my music at half the volume (makes me look forward to mowing the grass almost). With the music off & the noise reduction on all I hear is a very quiet slight hiss but I don't know why you would wear them without music playing anyway. I didn't find them uncomfortable on my ears. The headband is a bit odd looking but I think everone looks kinda funny with headphones on so no big deal to me. The headband seems sturdy enough for the price. I don't see it breaking unless you abuse it.
I don't know how these compare to the really expensive headphones but personally I don't wear headphones for listening to music in my home. I listen through my speakers. These are a great buy (I would pay full price for them). Music quality is good & they cancel alot of the background noise as they are supposed to. Best $$$ bucks I have spent in awhile.

Summary: Low cost noise cancelling headset - but not for bald people!
Review: I recently picked up the Aiwa CN5 headset from radio shack (~$$$) and was pleasantly surprised at how a low-cost NC headset could perform. I also use higher-end ones when flying my plane, but they are WAY too bulky for portable electronics (CD/DVD) on commercial flights. Anyway, Aiwa headset sounds fine, but has no padding on the plastic band which scrapes my hairless head top! Bring along a felt pad or something or it will get annoying very quickly! All-in-all, I'd recommend picking up a set.

Review: These headphones are so awesome. They work so well, it's like magic.The reason why I got them was so I could listen to my music while I was mowing the lawn. Because before I got them I would have to turn the sound up all the way so I could hear it, but even then it was hard to hear my music and it was hurting my ears because it was so loud. So if you need some noise canceling headphones, this one's for you!!!

Summary: it is all a matter of how much you are willing to pay
Review: Pros:
-They do muffle some sound, but its nothing to get excited about
-Nice, convenient folding design
-nice pouch (is big enough to stow a smaller mp3 player w/ headphones at same time)
Cons:
-if the earpad gets dirty (hair etc) they start to hum in the right ear (removing the cloth cover and blowing it out usually fixes this.
-very noticable hiss, which negates the sound reduction-when you buy a NR (noise reduction) headset you want it to filter out the outside noise and in turn you can turn your music down because you have less outside noise. With the Aiwas you have to turn them up just to tune out the hiss (which is also heard in the quieter parts of songs even when to volume is high
-earpads sit on ear padding is technically there but is not felt, they don't hurt but they're not the most comfortable things you've ever experienced
-this on-the-ear open air design also does not help them in the noise cancellation department noise cancelling headphones are ONLY good for low frequency noises, not even the 300 dollar Bose can cancell talking (they also hut my inner ear form the pressure). They might be good for an airplane ride but don't expect to get peace and quiet on a chatty bus. I, personally, have given up on the abilities of active noise cancellation 'phones. I believe the only ones that do perform in this category are good in ear ones (Etymotics, Shure, etc.) but I now use regular cheap headphones (Id rather not have to have a hundred or more dollars stolen, plus since the only one I think work are the in ear ones, well, hell you caould loose those damn things really easy. So I am content with a pair of 13 dollar Koss UR-15, which are light, comfy, have decent sound, and you don't have to worry about them (you can get them from gateway.com for 12.95 and free shipping with the coupon code NOSHIPA)

Summary: good headphones
Review: In my job I deal with a variety of noisy servers, everything from 1U servers to 32-processor beasts. These industrial servers generate a considerable amount of noise. And like many others, I fly a good bit. Considering this, I desperately wanted a decent pair of headphones. I found the Aiwa HP-CN5. These headphones are an open type of headphones, but they do cut background noise, even without turning on the noise canceling. They also come with an adapter to fit the two prong airline jacks, and a travel bag. Without any ambient background noise, the headphones produce a deep toned white noise. When I was in a quiet room, I found myself turning the noise reduction feature off more often than not. While I felt that that the overall noise reduction wasn't up to the 70% that the packaging claimed, but it is noticeable. Audio clarity and quality is excellent.

Summary: not quite as expected but pretty good
Review: they do work (reduce noise) but they are not meant to provide silence ie they work well when you hook them up to something. But (i know that some people mentioned a hiss, that is an understatement) when trying to cancel sound without music playing they create a fairly audible hum, i dont know if this is typical but mine did.
summary: buy if you want some cool low priced, folding,good at reducing noise with music headphones. THey do not create silence!

Review: My first pair I purchased from best Buys with the same portable CD player unit. Because of the one cord connection, since I was under warranty, they had to be returned about 2 years later. On the second trip, a year later than that, I was refunded all my money for the contract and headphones because Best Buys no longer stocked them. Boy, was I sad. I searched the net down after finding out my tech wizzard could not repair them. And lo and behold, here on Amazon is where I found them. A little less money but all worth it. A bit bulky but you get used to it if you use recording and/or large headphones for superior sound. Compact to pack up because they fold up and away. Comes with adapter for airplane use or other, not sure what else plus a carrying case. Believe you me, you no longer realize anyone/anything is around when you have these on. The seperate battery compartment on the set is for the EXTRA noise cancelling effect. If you can find them, GET THEM!!
