Summary: Nearly Flawless Headphones
Review: I bought my set of Sennheiser 2270's about a year ago, and have used them for hundreds of hours since then. There is an initail "burn-in" period of a few hours to get the full frequency response, and after that, they really shine.

They produce tight sound across the spectrum, and have great isolation properties. No one else can hear you, and you can't hear other people (for the most part).

The ONLY downside is that these are high-resistance (high ohm) phones, and that translates to the user having to turn up the volume a little higher than you might be used to, in order to power them. Regular CD players come through a little weak, but computers, receivers, and most mp3 players do just fine. I can speak from firsthand experience that my Nomad Jukebox 2 powers them at the highest level at a very reasonable listening volume.

What really convinced me that these were the least set of headphones I would ever buy is how well you forget you are wearing them, coupled with the high sound quality. When I play games on my computer, I have actually jumped at the sound of a gunshot, or turned when a door creaked open.

They are light and extremely well made. Comfortable as anything I could wish for, I have worn them for over 8 hours on a roadtrip and thought nothing of it.

Another great feature is the cord. Thick and long enough, but manageable, it unplugs from the left earpiece easily, so when you catch the cord on something, you only unplug them instead of destroying something.

I can't say enough about how great these are. BUY THEM. You will NOT be disapponted.

Summary: accurate, neutral headphones with good noise attenuation
Review: After using these for about a month, i am very pleased with them. I am a home user, not a recording engineer, but if you prefer a neutral sound, these might be just what you want. They don't add to or take away from the music. Attenuation of external noise is pretty decent (i chose these in part to reduce the noise from the computer, and was not disappointed). Despite the good noise attenuation, the pressure against one's head is not uncomfortable (even for someone with a fairly large head). You can easily wear these for one or two hours at a time without discomfort. I would describe the sound simply as full and complete: good clarity in the highs, prominent midrange, adequate bass.

Although saying something sounds "neutral" may convey an impression of boredom, these headphones do deliver that unquantifiable feature known as *pleasure*. They are involving. You will probably not find yourself thinking "if only i had bought better headphones". Overall, for the asking price, these are a very good value. Sound equipment *should* be neutral :)

Summary: very tight sound
Review: As everyone else has said, they have extremely tight sound, uncolored, and neutral as possible. No extra reverberations that make music seem warm or bright; as a result, everything sounds straight out of the studio. You can use an equalizer to make the response not so flat, but you can not recoup the extra colouring with an equalizer. If it's what you desire, look else where.

On the other note, great sound isolation, well in excess of 20dB for higher frequencies (les than 10% of sound gets through)

Summary: Very sharp.
Review: Bought these a few weeks ago, have been using them purely for studio work, which I'm convinced they were designed for without much thought to the home user. These have a very flat frequency response and a sharp and unforgiving dynamic response, along with very little of the harmonic excitement or sound colouration that makes consumer headphones sound "better". You can pick the parts from the mix with ease and you can almost see the knobs on the dynamics effects used in recording whatever you're listening to. If you're looking to make music and want to hear PRECISELY what is coming through the wire, these headphones can't be bettered under £150. If you haven't the slightest clue what I've been talking about and just want to listen to your music, go buy something else, but beware; audio equipment that colours sound (ie the vast majority of supposed "audiophile" equipment) will sound great with one peice of music and will kill another stone dead.

Summary: Do not buy to use with mp3 player / personal stereo
Review: I bought these to use with my Creative Jukebox Zen when travelling, but the moment I tested them I knew they were a waste of money. When listening to my mp3 I usually have the volume at 50% - in order to hear music at the same volume with these things I have to set the volume to maximum! Are you meant to place loudspeakers between the headphones and your ears? I don't understand how some retailers sell these at $200.

Summary: Surprising poor quality
Review: I purchased this set because the cable of my 15 years old Sony's headphone set got half disconnected. I expected far better quality than the Sony's old set. I was surprised by the narrow frequency range and the lack of details of the Sennheiser's set. Apparently, Sennheiser lacked high frequency and the response was not flat from low to high frequency. There were ups and downs. The lack of details made me feel that I was listening remotely, somewhat like listening from the next room. I don't recall the price of the Sony's set. Probably the second highest level but it is 15 years old and still far better than the Sennheiser's set. I have returned the latter. I think the Sennheiser's reputation is comparable to Sony's. I was surprised by the poor quality of the current set.

Summary: The Way Music Was Intended To Sound
Review: I use the EH-2270's for professional monitoring as well as personal use. The headphones efficiency is such that it's use with my Sony portable (sport)discman is more than adequate. Use with multi-track studio mixing and recording equipment is simply outstanding. Some of the reviews that I had read about these "cans" kept me from ordering these until recently. I am more than satified with the purchase.

For potential buyers:

When looking at the picture of the headphones, remind yourself that these headphones are much lighter than they look. I have used these for over 6 hours at a time with no fatigue whatsoever.

These headphones need to be broken in. At first, they (as most high quality cans) were somewhat harsh in the upper midrange. It took about 12-15 hours of moderate volume usage to obtain the designed fidelity.

I have never heard such flat bass response from a set of cans. To clarify, I must say that these faithfully reproduce extremely low bass without the usual "headphone mid-bass boom."

Overall, these headphones are nothing short of fantastic!!!
No tone control required.
