Summary: Average Professional Joe Gamer - Sony MDR-V700DJ
Review: Well, I just got these in the mail about 20 minutes ago, the first thing I noticed when i took them out of the box, is the quality. You can really tell these are high quality headphones, so I was appreciative and surprised by that. The next thing I noticed is that the plug on the end was too fat for my speakers, so I was like -- oh now, now i have to buy an adapter -- but i didn't! All i had to do was unscrew the fat tip and there's a little tip built in, more niceness.

Next, I put them on, i noticed immediately after putting them on that basically all other sounds (from the tv, people around) almost completely disappeared.

So I decided to fire up winamp, the songs sound better than they did with my old headphones, for sure. So then I decided to fire up some unreal tournament 2003. I'm a professional gamer, so i need to hear all the sounds, like when my opponent picks up powerups (so i know where they are on the map, etc) and these headphones gave new life to my game.

-----

So far the only gripe I have is that they make my ears burn, I'm not used to headphones with earpad's this big, so it's unusual to me. I will probably get used to it.

So far I'm impressed by these headphones. Check them out! :)

Summary: Flawless DJ headphones, but please read further...
Review: The 700s are absolutely perfect for hardcore DJ use and in my opinion only second to Pioneer's HDJ-1000s. And please do note that this is not a trivial fact. Everything in them is designed to suit this purpose, and no other. The bass is such a prominent force in them because that's exactly what you need when cueing songs. I've tested them in indoor and outdoor parties and they are invincible. Beatmatching is a pleasure because you can identify the bassy elements of a song with immense accuracy and definition.

I personally don't think they are for listening, say, with a portable device or at home with a Hi-Fi. They are way to bassy in their overall delivery of sound. But please don't get me wrong: they are not meant to be used to 5 hours of John Coltrane or Debussy, but they are beautiful to any bass oriented genre and the on-off-on-off environment of DJing. For home/portable use, I strongly recommend the Sony 7506s. They are lightweight, extremely comfortable and have a perfect balance of bass, mids and highs EQ-wise. Every situation has its best headphones. DJing: 700s - Audiophilia: 7506s

Summary: Great Sound, Good Headphones
Review: Just to get this out of the way, these headpones sound great! They are by far the best next to $300-$500 dollar bose headphones.

The Good:
1) Great sound
2) awsome style
3) fold up into a rather small bag (comes with the headphones)
4) It is from Sony if that tells you anything

The Bad:
1) (for me) they put unusual pressure on the end of my jaw wich is a little uncomfortable (i have a very cut jaw)

Clearly the good outway the bad, but if you are planning to wear these for long periods of time you might want to try them out some where first. If you dont mind reajusting the headphones every once in awhile to realive pressure this is a MUST buy.

Summary: Sound Good, But Break after 13 months
Review: These headphones are good for dj'ing, look nice etc, but they will break after just over one year. This is probably built into the design. The swivel joint cracks, the earpiece surround disintegrates, and, as far as I am aware individual parts cannot be replaced. This happened to me after just over one year of light use

Summary: nice sound, but a pain to wear
Review: I was impressed with the sound quality of these headphones and quickly picked up a pair after trying them out. I used them as the primary source of sound when at my computer for about two years before selling them off. While still impressed with the sound quality, the headphones just became too painful for me to wear. At first, it only hurt when worn for several hours at a time, but then it started to hurt faster and faster until it got the a point where I couldn't wear them longer than five minutes.

In the two years though, the headphones lasted and stayed in fairly good shape with no cracks in the (faux?) leather.

Summary: Nice Headphones
Review: These headphones sound great and I love them. I only have a few complaints. The headphones are a little heavy resulting in the headphones slipping off my head. The other small problem I have is when I listen to them for over an hour, the pressure from the headphones hurts my ears. What I started to do was to take the headphones off every 20 minutes for about a minute and everything goes fine. They have superior sound quality and the swivel-ear thing is magnificent.

Summary: Buy the HD 280 Senns Instead!
Review: These will break on you, very quickly - believe me - I'm a DJ that's given up and decided to go to the 280's! What happens is that in a short period and even after taken care of these, the swivel cups/plastic thing will crack and break and the cups will no longer fit closely to your head....they will then be useless and since this usually happens shortly after a year you will no longer have your mfr's warranty!

Countless other DJ's will tell you the same thing, save your money and get something better -- the HD 280's sound better, fit better, and give you more value for your money. They are cheaper and parts are easily available and easily replaceable....unlike Sony's 700's. Do the right thing, don't buy these! You'll be happy you listened to my advice!

Summary: Terrible choice
Review: I previously wrote a review about how these were good headphones, but after listening a little more I have completely changed my mind.

When i first used these headphones I thought they were the best thing that i had ever heard. After going through a couple different music styles and song I realized that the highs were way too intense. It was killing my ears to turn up the volume even to a normal listening level. The lows were good, and so were the mids, but the highs were so off that i decided to return these. Definately not worth 100 bucks. Headphones that come with a portable cd player sound better than these.

I am very dissapointed with sony's sound products. So far I've tried to mdr-v600, 700dj, and 900 headphones and they all seem to have this same problem. I don't see how so many people think these sound good...they must have never heard a real pair of headphones.

The only positive thing about these is that they look cool. Nothing else.
