Summary: Fantastic for the price!
Review: I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser PCX 250 and also a pair of Sennheiser HD 280. I was interested in pure reference sound quality. I also borrowed a pair of Bose QuietComfort and Triport phones from my friends to compare. I also own the HP550's.Here is what I found out.... the Bose systems do not reproduce reference sound - they automatically add emotion to it. They are not for purists or audiophiles , they are for the common listener with extra cash
that wants the best system and the oomph factor, without having
the best sound source... The Sennheisers offer a pure reference sound. Crystal Clear. However all these cost between $80-$300. For $25 the Phillips
is FANTASTIC. The BASE rocks/treble is fantastic/mid range is a bit lacking. The phones nicely fold up/look good and are light.
They DO however become uncomfortable after a few hours of continous wear. So watch out But they OFFER THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK. If I heard them without knowing the price I might have thought they costed atleast a 100 bucks.. I fully recommend these to anyone who
wants clear music with a good punch of Bass. I have had these for 2 1/2 years and they serve me very well. Go for it

Summary: Excellent product for an excellent price
Review: I recently purchased these headphones after my Technics DJ1200 broke (again), and I have to say I'm happily surprised. I use these mainly for my laptop and the overall sound quality is *very* high, especially for this price. I can't comment on the durability as I just got these. The only downfall (and it is very slight) is that there is some noise leakage from the outside world, so if you're ridding the subway you will have to turn up the volume. However, if you want a headphone that will handle compressed music files and CD's very well, give these a shot, you can't lose at this price.

Summary: Terrific budget headphones
Review: I think this is a terrific set of headphones for the budget minded buyer, I've not come across a better one at this price range. I would readily recommend it to anyone looking for budget headphones. LIKES:

Sound quality is an extremely subjective issue. I think the best sound system I've come across is a 11 speaker Bose system in a rented SUV. If I were to give that 10 for sound quality, I would put this somewhere around 7.5. The treble is crisp, and the bass is to my liking. I'm fairly certain bass fans may want a little more, but even they likely will find this above average (at the budget end of headphones).
And if you're the one who likes your music LOUD, this one absolutely delivers! 3. Ergonomics
A. Cable length of 1.5 feet gives me a little more room to maneuver around my desk without having to take these off (many headphones have cables 1.2 feet long)
B. Fold up well
C. Extend/Retract well to accomodate your head size 4. Look good and feel sturdy, though some other reviews here indicate otherwise 5. Blocking external noise
While I was looking for headphones that would block a fair amount of ambient noise, I use these headphones at my work desk too and would like to take the call if the telephone rings ;) I think they do a good job. Listening to music at an average volumes, I can just hear the phone ring. DISLIKES:
1. Potentially uncomfortable for long usage
It took me a couple of days to figure out a position where my ear lobes don't hurt because of wearing these. Since then, I've used them for upto about 2 hours at a time, without really feeling uncomfortable. These are my 4th set of headphones in a year, and I think they are reasonably comfortable. But the shape of the phone's pad is such that people could potentially find it uncomfortable if not worn correctly Overall, a great budget headphone!

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I was very disappointed with these headphones and would not buy it again. THe sound is good although ratherr hollow. A peron gets used to the hollow sound and for the money it may be expected. However the phone cups are rather small and squeeze the ears so much it becomes unformtable within a short time. The best part of wearing them is the moment they are taken off. Its a great relief to remove them. The price is good, but unless a person needs closed headphones and cant spend more, I would not recommend them. I would also note that while these are closed phones there is a considerable amount of sound leakage. Should not be used on a bus or in a library where they might disturb others.

Review: I've been looking forward to my new Philips HP550s since my last set of Jensens (JF25) got destroyed a week ago. I've been so happy with my Jensens over the past two years that I wanted to just buy the same pair, but they're been discontinued. I work from home, and I spent a lot of time with my headphones on, so it's important to me to have a pair that sounds good and is comfortable. I guess I got spoiled with my Jensens...I thought I could find another pair of decent headphones for under $25. (The Jensens were only $15!) These Philips aren't nearly so comfortable. The plastic band that goes over your head is softer and more pliable than on most headphones, but when it sits right on your head, it gets uncomfortable real quick (especially since I don't have a lot of hair to cushion it). The Jensens had a soft pad attached with elastic that kept the plastic band completely off your head. Probably not so durable, but much more comfortable. The cord is too short...I can't hook it into the back of my computer and sit in my chair at any comfortable distance as I'm used to doing. According to the specs, the cord is 5 ft long. Long enough for a discman or a laptop probably, but not for much else. The Jensens supposedly had a six foot cord, but it seemed much, much longer than the Philips', and it always allowed me a free range of motion. It also only attached to one ear piece rather than both of them, as the Philips does, which was less constrictive. The ear pads on the Philips are alright...not bad, but not good either. Could easily get uncomfortable after an hour of use. Overall, the quality of the Philips seems slightly superior to the Jensens, and I can't see any obvious weaknesses. Would probably last a long time. The sound quality in the Philips is superior...deeper bass, richer sound. I like it. But if I can't stand to have them on my head, what good is that? I'm either sending these back or giving them to my girlfriend to use with her laptop.

Review: If you are looking for headphones which will fit even the smallest head, these are for you! Great quality and stay in place on even my seven year old daughters head. I bought these for my son, but I am thinking of getting my daughter her own.

Summary: Good for Stay- At - Home Phones
Review: Me and my Mp3 player, are everywhere around town. So I am constantly looking for good headphones. I have had 3 pair scince I got the Mp3 player 6 pair combined with the old cd player. When I got these I thought they were awsome at first. True they sound great, true they are comfortable, but they are by now means durable. I droped them once in a bathroom, and the fall to the floor, cracked the inside plastic, facing the ear on the headband. So I took it home fixed it and then they got droped again. The "C" claw that pivots the headphone, broke. Each time I tried to fix it it was to no avail. The one other thing I will give to it's credit, it that it does fold up. If you like headphones that you can really shut out the rest of the world with and then when you need to do some talking and put your phones away, these will fold up neatly into a jacket pocket. If you buy them, try not to love them too much, cuz they won't love you back.

Summary: Useless for blocking any outside noise
Review: One reason to buy circumnaural (around the ear) headphones is to reduce environmental sound. These headphones block nothing at all....nothing. I can hear the environment just as easily as if they were not on. Otherwise, adequate for the price...nothing special.

-cord somewhat short Well I bought these about 2-3 years back, and ever since they've been with me pretty much everywhere, as I am an audiophile. half a year ago they broke; one of the sides stopped making any sound. Over the summer I went to get new ones and found I couldn't locate them, so I bought two "street style" headphones and a Panasonic RP-HT850 headphones. After comparing the lot of them I've found that while the panasonic ones are smaller, they hurt your ears, and the two "street style" ones I just didn't find comfortable. Furthermore, the panasonic ones have already broken, the same problem as was with the philips ones, but far earlier. I'm greatly relieved to have found these and shall be getting a set for myself ASAP.

Summary: Philips HP550 - Poor Sound
Review: Reading the reviews on Amazon I decided to purchase the headphones. They have very poor sound reproduction on the bass end - they sound "tinny" with no solid base. The headphones that came with my walkman sound better - no lie - I put them to the test, side-by-side listening to the same song under the same conditions. They just aren't worth the money, honestly.
