Summary: honk, honk, here come the 600's (Sony, not Sennheiser)
Review: I used to own these headphones, and I thought I liked them at first. But after I listened to better headphones, I now realize that the Sony MDR-V600 is very disappointing. The V600 lists for ..., and costs ... at a typical electronics superstore - but performs like a much cheaper headphone. Its bass is loud but not particularly deep; the mids suffer from hollow and muddying "ringing"; the highs are OK but lack detail. It's a shame that the Sony V600 is a totally botched attempt at designing a consumer version of the "professional" MDR-7506 headphones; as it uses similar transducers to the 7506 but tweaked to fit into a much larger and heavier shell. As a result, because the V600's transducers had been mismatched to their earcup size, the V600 sounds flat and lifeless.

If you must buy Sony in this price range, I recommend the MDR-CD580 rather than the MDR-V600; otherwise, you will find way better choices in other brands.

Summary: Worth every penny!
Review: I'm not much of an audiophile, and I admit that I initially shuddered at the thought of dropping so much cash on a set of headphones. But then a friend of mine recommended these, said I wouldn't regret it. I'm happy to say that he was right. Watching movies and listening to music became an entirely different experience. Brought out the best in my CDs and DVDs and the worst out of my low-bitrate MP3s. Every little click and hiss became clear as day. Found myself re-encoding a bunch of my old stuff at higher bitrates, but it was worth it. Best of all, they block quite a bit of outside noise. Great for getting some peace and quiet in even the most chaotic of environments.

And that's not all. They pack neatly--they fold and fit snugly in the included vinyl pouch, which is surprisingly durable. The headphones themselves have held up pretty well, but then I'm pretty gentle with them. The cord's plenty long and doesn't tangle easily. These little touches make all the difference.

If you have more discerning tastes, you may be better served by something else more refined (and likely more expensive). But if you're looking to move up from cheapo $10 headsets, this is as good a place as any to start.

Summary: Excellent sound for Money, Very Cheap Construction
Review: I've always owned Sony Headphones over the Years, I bought my first pair of the MDR V600's about 3 years ago, and they have served me very well until that one day my amp clipped, and out went one of the drivers. I ordered a brand new pair and when they arrived, the first thing I noticed was the cord was much thinner then my old pair. they lasted a week before loose connections developed, lucky the good folks at amazon.com sent me a new pair rigt out, they worked great for about a week, and now I'm back in the same boat. loose connections. Needless to say I will be asking for my money back, and will be exploring other brands. Time to give up on Sony. They never made decent equipment, but did make great headphones, I guess they are using the same care with headphones that they use with there other equipment which makes them just a BAD PURCHASE, be-ware Sony is not the great company they make themselves out to be.

Summary: Ear cups fall apart after regular use
Review: Initial sound quality was outstanding. However, after several months of regular use, both ear cups started to deteriorate to a point where you could see the bare foam. I would have expected much better quality from Sony. If you're looking for a long lasting quality headphone, I would look to other top brands, such as Sennheiser.

Summary: Great headphones
Review: Just picked up these headphones for use with my Nomad Jukebox 3, which was made without a bass control. This has solved everything, amplifying the sound just right, no overkill and no grainy tinny sound. Perfect. And a real decent price too here on amazon with the sale, highly recommended for a music enthusiast

Summary: great for the airplane, but a little tinny sounding
Review: The headphone cup that goes around your ear is nice for the plane because it eliminates much of the ambient noise that causes jet-lag lethargy, but if you want a better audio experience buy the Sony MDR V700 headphones. They are a little less cuppy on your ear, but the sound is far superior.

Summary: Solid sound quality.
Review: The high frequency sounds (treble) are very clear and crisp.

The low frequency sounds (bass) are very strong.

The mid range (... vocals?) are somewhat lacking. This is where the sound seems to break up.

When I first picked these headphones up for a monstrous $120 I was highly highly disappointed in the sound quality. I find that after leaving them plugged into a stereo at high volume for three days or more will properly 'break them in'. After doing this the quality of overall sound quadrupled and made me feel a bit better about my purchase.

All in all, this set is very nice, but I don't think these headphones are worth more than about $80.

Good things: Extremely long cord. They fold up pretty nice.

Bad things: They are somewhat heavy, so a small head or neck ache is almost certain after a couple hours of wear. The cups don't do all that great of a job of drowning outside noise. I could still hear my computer fan with them on.. but of course turning up the music will keep me from hearing that.

There are better headphones out there, but these are good enough if you can find them on sale.

Summary: Exceptional Headphones
Review: These are good headphones for the price. They deliver brilliant fidelity across the audio spectrum. I was really impressed by both the bass and treble reproduction and response and their ability to envelop my ears diminishing outside sounds. I use these with a Yamaha receiver. They deliver very good sound with this receiver. The receiver can play a factor on how sound and music is reproduced through these headphones. That is something you should consider when choosing any headphones.

Summary: The Best
Review: These are the best headphones I've ever owned. I recently purchased a replacement pair, as my original set died after 6 years of intensive use. They were repeatedly abused, shoved in and out of my bag and under seats on airplanes and generally not treated very well. They have stood the test of time and really performed well.

I am a designer and I wear headphones all day long at work so comfort is imperative. While these headphones are large, they are extremely comfortable and block out my obnoxious coworkers.

While the earpads will wear away in time as they did with my old set, the comfort and quality is not compromised. I have purchased these as gifts for fellow music lovers and twice now for myself. I couldn't recommend them enough.

Summary: BEST HEADPHONES IN THE WORLD!!!!!
Review: These are the best headphones u can buy. I got them, put them on on the way home and couldnt believe how amazing the sound is!!! I have had nearly every headphone, been searching for the "perfect" headphone and i just found it!!! They look really cool, use only a trickle of power for mp3 players, and give u great sound that covers youre ear unlike earbud or anything like that. With these you get very very clear distinguishable sound from headphones that are light as a penny. They are as comfortable as wearing a hat, and you bearly feel they r even on. it is definitely worth the [price] compared to [price] headphones that break in a week. And i get [price] a week so i value money alot! BUY THESE HEADPHONES!!! they dont distort music, they just give it to you with awesome clarity and precision. They sound so much better than even my awesome sony speakers!!
