Summary: Pounding Bass????
Review: After reading all the praises over these headphones, I decided to purchase them..so know I wonder, I don't know what kind of music you guys listen to, but it's not that these things have not the greatest bass, is that they simply do NOT have bass.
I would definitely use these phones for what they were made for at first, which is fidel monitor reproduction or studio works, but on a everyday basis, they just totally don't do it for me.Any reccomendations?

Summary: Amazing Sound, but They Fall Apart Easily
Review: First, for a a pair of headphones of this type, these are relatively comfortable. They will eventually become a bit of a burden on the sides of your head after continuous use, but that takes hours on end.

Also, I think that other comments praising the sound quality of these headphones are accurate. Since they fully cup your ears and their range is so good, listening to a given piece of music on these for the first time is an entirely different experience than ever before -- you'll hear things that you've never heard on speakers or mini-headphones. This, of course, is a plus when listening to high quality CD recordings: lyrics become clearer, layers of guitars become more distinguishable, subtle parts of classical music become more audible, etc. On the other hand, MP3s will sound a lot fuzzier and you'll hear every last crack on those old LPs.

That last caveat shouldn't make you think twice about dropping as much as $100 for these, but the warnings about durability (noted in some other reviews) should give you pause. The padding around the ears does decay (though it took a few years in my case) and the plug is extremely fragile. An advantage of the design is that there is a screw-on adapter that makes these phones playable in either 1/4" or 1/8" jacks, so you can listen to them on a home stereo or a portable CD player. But my 1/4" adapter broke from normal wear and tear after a year or two, so I've had to use a generic small-to-big headphone adapter ever since. The mini plug has since become rather bent.

So, if you're willing to take extra good care of these, I would highly recommend them. But if they're going to get beaten around or receive a tremendous amount of use, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Summary: No "Pounding Bass", thanks to Sony
Review: Good:
1~ Ultra-low distortion
2~ High efficiency
3~ Nearly flat response curve across a broader range of frequencies than any human can hear
4~ Good isolation
5~ Folds for easy storage
6~ Durable long coiled cord
7~ Comfortable, conservatively styled
Not so good:
8~ Earpad covering not very durable (but easily replaced at small cost)

In sum, the MDR-V6 is one of the best headphones on the market. It transduces audio signals extremely accurately. It feels and looks like a professional tool, not a Star Trek prop. If a recording is bad, this set will show the badness in extreme high fidelity; some people may not like that.

Summary: Good Phones
Review: Great phones. I had been using 18 year old koss pro 4x-plus for my guitar recording and home stereo listening. I always liked the MDRV6s for their clarity and tonal balance. I was surprised that sony still makes these, so based on my past experience I bought a pair, and am completely satisfied.

Believe me, as a guitar player the 100-4000 range is critical. Too much mid projection and your guitar tone turns to an AM radio, and too much bottom turns your arpegiated chords and sweep picked notes into conjested mush. The V6s shine at accurate reproduction of notes and clarity of tone.

As a semi- nit pickey home audiophile, I wanted a phone that again was accurate and projected a nice acoustic balance over all freqs. The V6s deliver, and at half the price of many inferior competitors. I really like their clarity and detail the most.

Summary: Great sound quality.
Review: Hi,
I have an iPod and I was wondering how come some songs sounds really bad. I figured I'd try with my sony V6 and ...
that answers my question. It increases the sound quality of all songs I listen to. Now I remembered why I bougth this in the first place 8 years ago(I got this after trying all the headphones they had available at Circuit city and bestbuy).

Summary: OUTSTANDING SOUND!
Review: I am an avid music listener and can definitely appreciate quality sound. I've used many different headphones, ear buds, etc. and the Sony MDR-V6 are by far the best I've ever owned. The sound is crystal clear, they are comfortable to wear and they fold up! After doing my research and reading countless reviews I decided to pull the trigger and go for it...I'm glad I did, these phones rock!

Summary: The greatest headphones ever made
Review: I bought my first pair of these in 1988 and am still using them. I am so paranoid that one day Sony will cease their production I've purchased several pairs so I'll have them up until I die. It's a testament to their quality that sports broadcasters, music producers, djs, and other professionals needing optimum sound quality continue to use these. What impresses me the most is the bass reproduction and high end timbres. I'm telling you, many years ago when Sony would roll out new models of headphones I would spend 2 to 3 times as much as this pair, thinking that the quality would be a step up. That was NEVER the case. These headphones have stood the test of time and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are durable, and reproduce voice, music, ANYTHING with a clarity that is unrivaled.

Summary: A Classic
Review: I can't recall how long I've owned my MDR-V6 phones, but it's easily been ten years. The sound is excellent, virtually uncolored, and unlike other top of the line headphones like Sennheiser's (which are VERY nice and well over $150.00) these sound as good used with a portable CD player as with a well powered home system.

It was time to replace them since the cord is finally shorting too much to ignore any longer and my ears are always covered with black stuff and foam from the disintergrating earcups. I asked around and a colleague who is the audio technician on a popular TV show told me without hesitation, these are the ones to buy. It's what he uses on the set and at home. I'm glad Sony still makes 'em. Maybe I should buy another pair for ten years down the road...

Summary: Real sound, dependable, and yeah, a great set of headphones.
Review: I don't know how to explain the sound these headphones provide, except to say that they sound very REAL. They represent the recording very accurately without distorting or altering the sound in any way, and they have the capacity to produce sound so you hear it the way the artist intended. They do this better than any headphones I have ever tried. What this means though, is that unlike more high-end fancier phones, you don't get as much 3-D layering. But that's ok, because for the price you get headphones that have an incredibly wide range of coverage, with clean, clear bass and crisp highs. And they keep the sound in, so you can listen to them without disturbing anybody, in fact the person beside you won't even know if you have them turned on or not. I have more expensive headphones but I just love these, and I use them all the time. They are the trusted "workhorse" of headphones used by radio people and recording artists alike, they will definitely last you for years, and they're not too expensive to boot. What can I say? I love 'em.

Summary: wonderful sound
Review: I experienced the same cushion degradation, over a period of many years, but I just bought another pair of these, they're so good. It's all about the sound, which is so accurate and real that most other headphones (and speakers) can't compare. The dual 1/4" & 1/8" plug is real handy, too, since both sizes of jacks are common. There's a nice little bag to put them in, and they fold up to a compact size. These are great headphones.
