Rating: Summary: Sound is good, but comfort suffers a little bit... Review: I've never owned such an expensive pair of headphones. I thought it might be nice to invest in a pair that didn't break after a year's usage. This pair seems to yield a good sound as far as my un-acoustically trained ears can tell. I can still hear the fans from my PC which emits about 40-50 db that I had hoped these headphones would block, but it's not of great importance. As other reviewers have noticed, they are a bit tight around the ears. Prior to ordering, I figured my ears weren't terribly large and would be fine, but my ears actually start to hurt after 20 minutes of having these headphones on. I would have preferred the piece that connects to both ear pieces be made of a flexible metal rather than plastic. The product just has an cheap plastic feel to it that wasn't worth my $40. I just don't think a pair of simple headphones should cost this much. Perhaps if I ever buy another pair of headphones, I'll try other brands like Koss and Sony. I was fooled into thinking that Sennheiser's top quality meant best economic value.
Rating: Summary: HD 497 vs HD 212 Review: My roomate got the 497 and I got the 212pro and I have tested both to find which one is better. The answer is it's totally up to the listener. First, both headphones have the exact same plastic band that is fairly comfortable after breaking in. Do not return these until after the first week becuase they get amazingly better sound wise. The 212 are a bit heavier then the open 497's but it could just be the difference between closed and open.
I was pretty scared of alot of reviews saying the bass is too much, but if you like music with bass and movies these are perfect. They pickup alot of very deep sounds and its very warm, sometimes it can get a bit too much but I liked someones idea of having the ability to turn down the bass rather then turning it up all the time. What it does have in lows it lacks in highs. One great example is Beck- Lost Cause the high swirling violins don't come in as clear on the 212 as they do on the 497's. The 497's have a very natural and balanced sound. I would really reccommend them to people who really like acoustic, soft rock, and anything where the music has more emphasis on vocals then bass. I was kinda discouraged that the 212 lacked in mids and highs but it was outweighed by the fact the bass is absolutely amazing. I am always turning up the bass on my computer and cd player and this is perfect. The 497's also leak alot of sound, but this is what their made to do. On the other hand the 212's trap sound nicely, and you can't really here anything else when your listening to them. Both headphones are very comfortable and designed for long use, sennheiser really thought out the ergonomics of the headphones.
In short if you want lots of powerful sound and bass and don't mind the extra weight go with the 212's.
If you want a balanced listening and want a very light headphone stick with the 497's.
Rating: Summary: Very happy with my purchase Review: Sennheiser HD-212 has an unbelievable sound and keeps the outside noise out. It is comfortable and was will worth the price.
Rating: Summary: Great for the price Review: The Sennheiser HD-212 headphones have a clear sound, don't require a headphone amp, yet have lots of bass. For some types of music the bass may be too much, but if you're used to having a good amount of bass, then these are great. I tested the bass response with bass around 35-40 Hz and I was amazed -- I never knew headphones could do this. These are good at blocking out noise and keep others from hearing your music. Not the most comfortable pair I own (that would be the Sennheiser EH-2200, which I'd recommend if you want a more flat response), but it hasn't been a problem.
Rating: Summary: Work well for the price Review: These $50 headphones are my first exploration into "nice" headphones (over $30). At first they seemed a little uncomfortable, pressing against my head tightly but I had little issue since thats what helps block sound out. Recently I laid down awhile with them on and I found the headphones were more broken in and less pressing on the head (so much more comfortable) I would say I've used them for 15 hours and that they have been broken in enough sound and comfort wise to make me happy with them. You can look dorky wearing them but I dont know of any headphones that would make you look cool. The main thing you may not notice from the picture is that the headband curves to the shape of the head so it lies more on the back of the head at a more of an angle than most. Oh yeah the bass! Its amazing and it doesn't detract from the rest of the sound, all the sound comes in crisp it just seems like your in a room with a subwoofer--its some of the cleanist bass i've ever heard and i've had lots of experience with listening to music in cars, houses, movie theaters...so on ...so I would definately reccomend these especially for HIP HOP and Trance/Techno anything with a good beat!!
Rating: Summary: The Best Yet!!! Review: These are by far the best headphones I have ever owned. Everything from the full lows to the crisp highs are reproduced better than I have heard from even top-notch stereo systems. I would highly recommend these to anyone who demands superb performance out of oudio equipment. The only distortion I have been able to hear if from my portable CD player as it has a low quality output. These headphones do a good job at keeping out background noise (this is important to me as I frequently ride the bus to school) but do not block out everything, so you don't feel completely isolated. Also, I sometimes almost forget that I am wearing them as they are so light and comfortable...They have survived over two months with no scratches or dents (a personal record). In short, I feel that these are some of the best headphones money can buy...
Rating: Summary: Good value headphones Review: These are good quality headphones, audio wise -- I think Sennheiser maintained the same audio components as some of the more expensive models, but reduced the make and feel to bring down the price. I'm not too into the solid frame design and the slider grooves for the earcups. In fact, on mine when I tried to disengage the earcups from the groove (this is advertised as a "feature" for compacting the phones for travel etc.), a little plastic part of the groove on each side came out... the plastic just isn't made to be used that way. On the audio quality -- after a 24 hour burn in session on a variety of music, the phones sounded excellent. The bass is deep and rarely crackles (mostly due to the audio input quality) -- for use with MP3, these headphones are actually good as flattening does occur depending on the compression technique. 4 stars -- audio good, make is a little weak. I supplement these with Sennheiser MX-500 for travel so the lack of compactness / plastic issue mentioned above is not a problem.
Rating: Summary: The best headphones Review: These are the best headphones I have ever owned. In fact these are the only headphones I will ever need - they are that good. Everybody in my family uses them because their headphones aren't as good. They sound just like you'd like them to sound. Music sounds clean, bass sounds tight and punchy, and the headphone have cushion plus they are light-weight so they are comfortable.
Rating: Summary: get these Review: these headphones have somepowerful bass that doesnt distort, theyre perfect for watching any kind of movie, and they're the best headphones i can find for hard hiphop beats, they really rock your dome, trust me.. i want another pair
Rating: Summary: Lightweight, great sound, but a little tight. Review: These headphones produce excellent sound. I began to hear things in my music that I had not heard before, and I found that to be greatly satisfying. The bass is a bit heavy, but nothing unbearable. The only complaint I have is that the headphones are a bit tight on my head. This doesn't impact me right away, but after a couple of hours, my ears are sore from the pressure, and are very sensitive; however, most headphones have this problem unless they can be altered for fit, but most do not. For $40 or so, these are great. They block out light ambient noises, and have very good sound quality.
