Summary: Better then iPod headphones.
Review: I have spent MUCH time deciding weather to get bulky headphones with superior sound or small headphones with weaker sound. I am afraid that the big headphones will break in my backpack (happend before), but I want the good sound. I also dont want to hear people on the bus or the engine in the backround. These headphones are the soulution... Great size, sound, and noise canceling.

Compared to the headphones that come with the original iPod these kick iPod awsome! Better sound, MUCH more comfortable, cancels sound like a dream. And stronger high and low sound. Great headphones all around, highly recommended.

By the way, why is everyone complaining that these take a long time to set up? It only took me less than 5 min... :D

Summary: I had no idea...
Review: that portable music could sound like this. My music collection is new again, crystal highs and thumping lows, it is such a treat to own these headphones. Price, quality, portability: Sony well done, I would purchase these again in a second. As an FYI, I've paired these with the Dell player, and the sound is uncompairable.

Summary: Poor sound quality. Quite frankly, they sounded bad.
Review: I played with my audio settings for about a half hour trying to get these things to sound good. I just couldn't believe a $35 pair of ear bud headphones could sound this bad. But they did. Even though I had the volume of my audio unit turned all the way up, not much sound came out of these headphones. They also sounded very tinny, like an old AM radio. When I increased the bass, it overdrove the headphones before the sound quality improved. I did the trial from a quiet room, so I imagine in any other environment, I would not be able to hear them at all. I love Sony products, and since I can't believe Sony would put out such a bad product, I'm going to chalk this up to a defective unit. I'm returning this pair, but I'm not going to try another. This experience has soured me. They were very comfortable though. The cord arrangement is odd - one side about 8" longer than the other.

Summary: The good and the bad
Review: The good: Sound quality is extremely good. The bass is actually bass -- listen to the heartbeat at the start of Pink Floyd / Dark Side of the Moon and you'll understand. Blocks out most outside sound, allowing most music to be enjoyed at a very low volume.

The bad: Because they fit in the ear itself, you end up hearing yourself chew food, yawn, drink, etc. Also, the little plastic case is nice, but I've been spoiled by the wind-up variety. Lastly, they're relatively expensive.

Summary: Amazingly good sound, but at a high price, and with only minor inconveniences.

Summary: Sony- Simply the Best!
Review: These are by far the best in-ear headphones I have ever experienced period. These headphones do have a noise-cancelling type effect. I was impressed ( though I shouldn't have been b/c these are Sony brand) by the superior sound quality that these tiny headphones produce. The sound of these headphones drowns out the noise around you which is really important if you don't want to be disturbed. The bass from these headphones will truly impress you, giving you a second thoughts about any doubts of how much bass can actually come from these tiny headphones. Overall I think these are a great pair of headphones especially for the price offered here at Amazon.com (currently $34.94) Not bad!

Summary: Fan-Friggin-Tastic!
Review: These buds are simply amazing! The sound is high-quality; not too tinny, not too bassy, they've got perfect equilibrium. Music sounds awesome through these; even my 96 Kbps MP3s sound like 192 Kbps! I know some of the other reviewers mentioned the little silver thing that dangles from the left phone. It gets annoying when you put them in at first, but within minutes you're so into the music that you forget all about it. When I use these with my computer, I can't hear anything else in the room (which is amazing, considering that I play my music on a comparatively low volume). I usually try to avoid Sony (I'm pretty anti-big-business, and I've gotten some crappy products from them before), but these phones are awesome, and highly recommended. Amazon's price is the best out there, so don't even bother trying to find a better one.

Summary: Not for Me.
Review: After reading many positive reviews of this unit I feel my commentary is the outlier. However, I'll preface my remarks describing the music and device I used with the EX71SL earbuds as it might soften an otherwise negative review of a Sony item.
Try a Palm Zire 71's MP3 capability with some Mozart or Schumann string chamber movements or a few tracks of Lohengrin, orchestral and vocal. Sound was strident, almost to the screech point to these ears. I returned them and have gone back to conventional over-the-head light headphones for a much better sound with the Palm and my MP3-encoded classical stuff.
Perhaps I obtained a bad set but I wasn't willing to give a replacement pair a try.

Summary: How does Sony get that kind of sound from such small things?
Review: I am amazed at the clarity and great bass of these little marvels. It would seem that [$] is expensive for such little headphones, but in this case, they are more than worth it. Fidelity and volume of the songs out of my ipod almost doubled compared to the ipod's original earphones. With the MDREX71SL, I can lower the volume on the ipod about 30% from what I was used to with the same volume as before, a higher clarity and an increased battery life.

If you have an ipod, do yourself a favor and buy this earphones. I used to be in doubt but now I am definitely a believer now.

Summary: Good...
Review: This is probably the best earbuds that I have ever experience, I would really rate this 4 1/2. The bass is really good for an earbud, the mid-highs slightly sharper than what you would expect from a really good headphone. This buds are really great comparable to mid to high end phones for it's price and design.
Two things...
You will find faults in your mp3 files because of it's clarity
and be sure that you really connect your extension cord with the the main buds, you will only hear the right ear bud after they are really connected together (you won't see the mini-plug of the other it sinks into the hole of the extension cord). It feels that you can't push it in but it will eventually sink into extesion cord and now have fun with them!

Summary: WoW !!!
Review: Well I admit it, I'm a base-head who likes a healthy volume too. I tried several Sennheiser and Koss products and they were . . . well OK. I even tried the super expensive Ety's (4P's) and while the sound was good with the Ety's they were very uncomfortable in the ears after 20 minutes and the "microphonics" effect was a bit much.

However, the Sony 71's insert very smoothly, feel comfortable for hours and stay put!. They sound incredible with a luscious deep bottom end that you feel. Highs are crisp and mid-range was smooth as well. They are also 16 Ohm in impedance so they are remarkably efficeint and don't require a lot of power to drive to good volume. So many portable headphones are 32 Ohm and even higher and thus require a lot more power to drive to decent levels, which results in faster battery drain.

One earbud cord is intentionally longer than the other to allow you to run the cords behind the head (if you want) and drape straight down to the side you are wearing your portable unit. "Same-length" earbud cords result in the main cord having to run awkwardkly "across" you body. A very nice innovative touch from Sony! Give these a try folks. The Amazon price "IS" one of the lowest out there! I'm ordering a second back-up pair!
