Summary: A good compromise and great for the bike
Review: After using the MDREX71SL for a couple weeks, I think the headphones are a good compromise and great value. The sound quality is good enough when I'm mobile, and certainly better than cheaper Sony earbud headphones I've been using for the last five years or so. Getting a good fit noticeably improves the sound quality.The weight of the in-line plug and the winder that doubles as the earbud case caused the left headphone to slip out of my ear over time. Tired of this, I found a solution that fixed the problem completely. Instead of letting the left earbud and cord dangle down, I tip the earbud up and route the cord over and behind my ear. This small change was so effective that I rode for 90 minutes yesterday on my road bike and I didn't have to adjust the headphone once. The headphones seal out much more wind noise than my previous Sony headphones that only fit in the outer ear. This was a huge improvement because I didn't have to adjust the volume on my ride despite big fluctuations in wind noise. On my road rides and commutes I only use one headphone for safety and also because I'm listening to audio books. (Yeah, a lot less fun than working out to some tunes, but this is only way I find time to "read" for fun anymore.) Using one earbud, the longer right side, without the provided extension cord was just the length to string the cord down to the iPod in my (back) jersey pocket. I'm looking forward to using the pair on my next ride off-road. I think I would have been better off with the version of this headphone without the extension cord, but it wasn't available at the time I ordered it. It would wind more easily and reduce the cord weight. Even with these small problems, this pair is a good product overall.

Summary: The short cord.
Review: it is meant for you to use in conjunction with a remote like on the ipod. Using the short cord plus the length of the remote makes the total length just right. as far as the sound being empty, leave it on med high over night. and in the morning, the sound is broken in and the sound is fantastic. no better deal for heaphones. One thing about the earphones, keep them away from puppies. tanner ate the silicon covering and I had to get new ones through sony. however, all in all, this is probably the best 35 bucks I've ever spent. that says a lot cuz I have bot a lot of stupid things for 35 bucks. highly highly highly recommend.

Summary: OK, but...
Review: Just received these phones, sound and fit is better than those that came with my iPod and the hard case is a nice touch. What I don't like is that the cord is too short, 24" at best. I'm 5'11" and it barely reaches my waist. If I turn my head, I'll rip out one of the earbuds. What was Sony thinking?? Sure, they added an extension, but that adds weight and an extra connection. Obviously an afterthought on Sony's part. What if you wanted to put your player on a nearby table? Not going to work unless you're right nest to it. Nearly every other manufacturer of in-ear phones has at least a 48" cord. (...) For daily use they're useless. (...)

Summary: Works lousy on the mini ipod
Review: I bought these at the Apple store because the salesperson recommended them over the Apple brand of ear buds. The funny thing is that they sound different on the regular ipod versus the mini ipod. On the mini, they have no bass or depth. They sounded like REALLY cheap speakers. The Apple in the ear that came with the mini ipod has much better sound quality, but are too big and uncomfortable. Don't know why they sound different, but they did. Salesperson verified it!

Summary: Not as good as others say
Review: Decent Bass, very limited high range, distorted midrange.
Did improve as time when on, but not that great as others describe. better than my existing in ear headphone. Full size headphones used are sony MDR-V6, not even close to these headphones. Very stupid short cord, too short for any device or person. Excellent noise reduction If you accidently yank out an earpiece, it is a very painfull event.

Summary: I returned them
Review: I bought these for gym use with my MP3 player, but I really didn't like them and have returned them. Bass was strong, almost overpowering. Midrange seemed quiet by comparison. Upper ranges were kind of tinny sounding to my (non-audiophile) ear. They were comfortable to wear sitting still, but the weight of the plug, combined with workout sweat, made the left phone keep losing its seal. The cord was strongly microphonic - I couldn't stand using it on the eliptical trainer without weaving the cord down my back under my shirt to keep it from bouncing around. I know these are inexpensive phones, but their quality pales in comparison to my over-the-ear open Sennheiser PX-100s, which cost just a bit more.

Summary: Terrific
Review: I held off for months while trying to figure out what was best for my price range so that I could maxmize my music enjoyment from my Zen Xtra. After reading all the reviews here I decided to take the jump and purchased a pair of these headphones. The people are right on this board, these babies rock. Make sure you select the right sized silicon plug to ensure a good fit (three sizes come with the headphones). The comment about being able to hear a sound everytime the cord rubs up against something is mostly fixed if you let the cord hang behind you, the way its supposed to be. Obviously you are going to hear something since sounds do resonate through your mouth and nasal passages (i.e. you can hear yourself breath deeply if you care to). The sound from these phones is great and its only been 30 minutes since I removed them from the box. I hope as they break in the bass will get even better, though it is good right now as it is. The music I listen to is mostly rock and trance, vocals are very clear. For those of you that have the Zen Xtra, these phones are better than the stock phones that come with the unit. The bass is "tighter" and the music just seems to be better coming out of the sony set. For this price you cannot go wrong.

Summary: Great Headphones for the price!
Review: I bought these to use with the iPod mini. The headphones that came with the iPod did not work at all for me. I read reviews and decided on these headphones as a replacement.(Unfortunately they do not seem to be sold in white in the US, so I ordered them from Hong Kong.) I was absolutely delighted with the way they fit and the sound is excellent. My problem with the headphones falling out of my ears at the gym is solved!

Summary: Works for me
Review: Got these for use with my IPod mini, and I am very pleased. After using many (dozens) of different headsets in the past from elcheapo to pro, these are the best match for my use, including working out (mostly weights, exercycling, and stairs). I personally like the acoustic isolation. They are comfortable for long periods. I generally favor noise-cancelling sets and have a few of those, but the isolation you get with these makes the noise cancelling superfluous. I guess you can get a noise cancelling version of these, and i have read some of the reviews of those, and I am not surprised that people are disappointed with them. These are the first earbuds that I have been able to use for more than five minutes. The freq response is excellent, though more bass than I want. I compensate with the itunes equalizer, which works really well. I don't understand some of the negative ratings these phones get. Maybe those reviewers got defective product. It is possible that the phones didn't fit them. That would make all of the difference. You have to fit these in your ear properly and get a good seal. They simply won't work at all if you don't. Happily, I have had no problem with fit.

Summary: Absolutely amazing
Review: These headphones are by far the most comfortable headphones i have ever purchased. the in ear system effectively blocks out much external sound and allows the user to hear strong treble and powerful bass sound reproduction. the bass is extrememly clearly reproduced because of the very low end of the range (much lower than most standard consumer headphones which often begin their reproductive range at 12Hz or 14Hz)these start at 6Hz Some tips about other reviews and some thoughts : - the silicon plugs cause a kind of stethoscope affect (medical instrument for observing heartbeats) whenever the cord hits something (mainly your chest) some reviews say this is a nuisance but fail to mention that it cannot be heard if you actually have your music on :P - when i first used these headphones i was somewhat dissapointed in the bass. i however listend to a review and waited for them to break in a bit and was astonished at how much more powerful the bass was after a few days. - you must also experiment with how deep in your ear the headphones should be for good sound reproduction. different ear size = different sized cap and different comfortable depth These headphones are somewhat pricy in stores but are completely worth the money i would give this product six stars if it was at all possible.
