Summary: Excellent headphones for the money
Review: I bought the HD-497 a year ago and could not be happier. The sound is very clear and detailed. Very nice highs (not earbleeding), bass is tight and does not distort at high volumes. It is also very comfortable. I highly recommend it even at retail. I paid $...after rebate and now it is back to $...again. Don't miss this deal!

Summary: Reconsider
Review: When I bought these headphones, I expected them to fit perfectly around my ear and deliver clear sound and good bass, just like reviews say. But, it WAS NOT what I had expected. It's sound was clearer than my original Panasonic's that came with my CD Player, but the bass was only a small bit better. It did NOT fit all the way around my ear and I have small ears. The width of the earcups are about 3.5-4cm. Not much boom for your buck, even for the $44 I got it for.

Review: I had this other headphones plugged into my computer. Then when I got this one in the mail, I unplugged the old one and plugged in the 497. I almost went deaf! I didn't expect it be so loud and crisp... and I had the treble set too high on my sound card. I was hearing things that I never heard through my other headphones. he HIs are amazing on this unit, and the LOWs are just enough that I don't feel drowned in a sea of bass.

It's pretty comfortable... but it gets painful wheN i wear this with my glasses on. The legs (is that what they're calle?) on my glasses dig into the side of my head when I have this on. People tell me I have a big head though, so maybe that may have worsened the effect. It's pretty comfortable without my glasses though. The only thing being that I'm as good as blind without my glasses... so listening to music and working on my laptop is pretty hard to do.

Summary: NIIIIIIIIICE
Review: Can't really complain about these headphones at all... The sound is excellent, and just about as good as many headphones that i've tried at as much as three times the price. Bass response is rich and clean, though i actually was expecting a tad bit more (but this is just being picky). The sound overall, is simply put, clean. You are going to hear what your player is putting out.. nothing more, nothing less. Initially, I thought 97's would be a bit too tight for my rather large head, but i quickly got used to them. They are actually lighter than i expected but are still pretty big street wear headphones. This doesnt bother me a bit. In conclusion, an excellent pair and an extremely excellent price. BUY EM!

Summary: Good sound, comfortable, but looks and feels flimsy.
Review: Super comfortable. I use them with an iPod and plugged in to an amp and the range is great. The chord and headset seem a bit cheap. One thing that's good: you can purchase a new chord from their website for about $9, and new ear cushions for the same price. If you've ever had a set of headphones have their chord or cushions wear out before the speakers do, you know that these features might save a ton of money in the long run.

Summary: Great headphones
Review: I ordered these headphones from Amazon.com after I saw a New York Times piece just before Christmas raving about them. I have not been disappointed. On the plus side the sound quality is superb - I listen to everything from classical to rap. The feel is comfortable - both on the ears and on the top of the head - where there's a nice cushion. Not snug - even after a few hours. There's good length on the cord - so I can easily walk around the office. I've tested them on a Sony NetMD and on the Dell Latitude. I use a high quality sound card for the Dell - great sound for both MP3s and WMA files at 128kbps. On the negative side, though they look good and they feel solid, they are very much plastic and pleather - though that in no way affects sound quality. I have compared them with inexpensive over the ear models from Koss and Philips and there's just no comparison in sound quality - enclosing the ear probably makes the biggest difference. The point being that price really does matter (though to be fair to the other two brands I didn't compare to their more expensive models - it's all that I happen to own.) Net net, it's tough to go wrong with these.

Summary: Good sound, but a bit uncomfortable
Review: I've had these for about an year now. They have really good sound, although some people describe them as being a tad "warm." At first, they were really too tight around my head; plus I don't like the fact that the pads sit on your ears (though they ARE designed as such). Nowadays, they are quite bearable... I still feel them, but nowhere as tight as before. If they are too tight for you, try placing books between the two pads overnight for a few days, it will loosen them up a little.

Overall, great entry headphones; perfect for a college student as they aren't too expensive and are very durable. However, I will be stepping up from these headphones and move onto a pair of circumaural headphones (possibly the Sennheiser HD-600s :D).

Summary: Excellent quality and value!
Review: I have been using the Sennheiser HD-497 headphones for over 6 months. I am extremely satisfied w/ my purchase. I have used these headphones for stereo use, portable CD use, and on my computer. They have never disappointed me yet. All types of music, from jazz, rock, metal, rap, to classical, sounds excellent through these headphones. They drive bass quite well for inexpensive headphones! They are very lightweight, too. And, despite some other reviewers remarking on lack of comfort, I find the headphones to be extremely comfortable for long periods of wear. They are attractive phones w/ exceptional design, build and price. Thus, I would rate them a best buy.

Summary: Great product
Review: These headphones were my first step up from the ones Sony gave you with the old Discman. I needed a good set for college, and at [the price], I was expecting a lot. I found that they deliver. I got an extended warranty on them, and found that all parts can be replaced in the headphones. It fortunately hasn't gotten to the point where any part of them has broken, but I can tell you that they stood up to being thrown on the floor, having 170-pound friends fall on them numerous times, and having the 65-foot cord tangled and yanked all the time. These are durable headphones. The bass is pretty good, but the most important thing is that they are open-aire. For anyone who doesn't know what this is, it means that they basically have little holes on the outside cover to allow sound out and in, where other headphones would attempt to totally isolate all sound. This can be a double-edged sword. If you need to hear something or someone but you want to listen to music, this can be good. If you're somewhere with people close by, or in a quiet situation, it almost obliterates the concept of headphones. A decent amount of sound will escape these if you have the volume at a reasonable level. The open-aire design also allows breathing, so your ears don't get so sweaty. The design is altogether good, with the padded earcups being comfortable for the most part. I, like one other reviewer, have big ears, but they also stick out. I get a pain at the top of my ear, however, if I wear these for an extended amount of time, like sleeping. Don't wear these listening to music in bed. They're too big. I do, but once I had my hand between the headphones and the pillow, and woke up to find that I'd lost feeling in my middle finger. I regained that in about a month. Use a little common sense with these headphones and you'll find a great priced, tough set of headphones with quality features.

Summary: Great Sound!
Review: Have continued to enjoy these earphones from day one of purchase. The quality of sound was noticeably better and I
love the long cord.
