Summary: Pretty good but too much BASS. (MDR-EX51LP)
Review: (UPDATED:...I originally gave these ear buds 5 stars. I've decided to change them to 4 stars because they produce too much BASS. All sounds contain too much BASS. They are fine if you like a lot of BASS, but if you want to listen to some good instrumental or new age music, I think the sounds are too BASS biased; I would like it to be more neutral.)----- Original Rewiew follows-------------
Wow. These little earbuds really are awesome! I just can't believe the BASS that's produced by these tiny little ear phones. I actually got the MDR-EX51LP, which replaces the MDR-EX70. They have the same stats, but the 51LP is a little bit less expensive. I believe Sony has discontinued the MDR-EX70LP as of now--I was not able to find the 70LP, only the 51LP was on the Sony website. But these 51LPs are really made of good quality. The sound reproduction from these little ear pieces are very precise and crisp. I can definitely hear the high in HI-FI from this pair. If you really want to enjoy your music on the g then get these. These ear buds will convince you of the adage: you get what you pay for. Oh, I almost forgot. It is very comfortable. It fits right into your ears and you can really wear these forever. One word of advise/warning. Don't share these ear pieces with others. It's not the most hygenic thing to do. You're sure to get some ear wax on these little ear buds. So only use it for your personal and private use.

Summary: Additional Info - the cord
Review: After panning these things on sound quality- I realized I left out another important factor.
The cord is very poorly designed. As I mentioned in my earlier review, I use the iRiver HP140. This device comes with a remote (which is awesome). I figured that the "short" cord everybody was talking about would be great for me, because I have a device with a remote and don't need a few extra feet of cord hanging around since the remote stays relatively close to me, even when the unit is in my backpack or jacket.
Just one problem. There isn't even enough cord to reach your belt region. I don't know how other people use the remote - but I usually clip mine to my pants right at the waist-line. The cord just misses your waist-line. If you stand perfectly still, you can probably pull it off - but if you begin to walk or even turn your body slightly - you will yank the ear-buds out of your ears. I suppose there are two options: 1. Use the cord extension supplied (but this will surely give you WAY too much cord if you are using a remote like I am and only need to reach your waist-line). 2. - clip the remote onto an area of your body above your waist-line. I did this for a day while I was wearing a jacket which had an inside breast pocket. But- the next day I was wearing a tee-shirt and no jacket. What are you supposed to do - clip the remote to your neck? 6 extra inches would have made all the difference and allowed people to use the "short" cord (without the extension) to reach their belt-line -which is where I'm assuming most people clip their remotes - right? Poorly done Sony.

Summary: Excellent sound and comfort with a little experimentation
Review: Got these to use with a Windows Ipod (horrible enclosed ear buds!!). Was using a pair of very good over the head Koss SportaPhones- wanted something a little more comfortable and less visible. Also the Koss had only so-so high end. At first, I wasn't so impressed with the EX70, using the midsized insert. Bass seemed lacking and I seemed to be getting a fair amount of outside noise. Switched to the large size inserts, and what a difference!! Phenomenal bass, excellent imaging, very clear detail on the high end. I strongly suspect that the people who've given this a mediocre review didn't take the time to find the insert size that really fit their ear. Highly recommended, assuming you can get a good seal.

Summary: A good thing to have
Review: Great purchase for me. They eliminate just the right amount of outside noise. I wore them on the subway on my way home from the store and all I heard were the announcements over the speaker. I didn't really hear the train noises or the crowds. Pretty cool. They offer a very full and rich sound. The base is good, appropriate levels for the music I listen to. The rest of the spectrum does well too. They are very comfy and they haven't once felt like they were about to fall out of my ears (normal earbuds to this frequently). The only thing I don't really like is the carry case. It's this little capsule that you put the earbuds into, but there is nothing to do with the cord. It would have been nice for them to have though about this too. Overall, I'm very pleased with them.

Summary: Perfect for PDA's and MP3 Players
Review: I bought the earbuds for my iPaq. I have a 512MB SD chip, so I thought I'd use the iPaq as an MP3 player as well. These earbuds produce a ton of bass when needed. I can feel my brain move. (Probably a warning here, these may damage your hearing if used too loudly). Great size, fit well and look good. Definitely recommend these earbuds.

Review: I bought these (actually similar Sony ones but more expensive) to replace the iPod ones. 1) these fit better. 2) the sound goes into my head and nowhere else hence not bothering anybody. 3) I don't have to hear anybody else's which really drives me up the wall. The sound is great and will be only as good as your recording. I would like to see a storage case though, I keep mine in a pouch. So if you see my head bobbing, it's me, my iPod and these fine earbuds. I don't go anywhere without them. High recommended and an excellent buy on Amazon.

Summary: Love 'em
Review: I bought these as a replacement for the white earbuds that came with my iPod. I wasn't happy with the iPod's headphones because they tended to fall out and were uncomfortable after a while. These do neither. They're very comfortable and block out outside noise very well. Sound quality is great. The iPod's earbuds didn't fit into my ears very well, so I didn't get much bass output. In comparison, the Sonys have more than enough.
I also like the "stealth" factor. Since the cord is black, no one knows I have a $300 iPod in my pocket anymore!

Summary: don't buy these
Review: i bought these for my ipod. the sound was good (i like bass). the fit was also good - comfortable with a good level of external noise blocked out. But ...
the cord! i found it impossible to get used to the cord being short for one ear and long for the other. i kept yanking the short one out.
also, the main cord is way too short to use by itself - unless you want to carry your mp in your shirt pocket or on your shoulder. and the extension cord that comes with it is way too long and not easy to handle.
on top if it all, the main cord did not plug in securely into the extension cord - it kept falling out.
i sent them back, went to radio shack and got a good-enough pair of in-ear phones for half the price.
btw, be wary that some of the glowing reviews posted here for various products may be buzz generated by a new kind of marketing technique (see ny times article, 12/5/04) now being used by such firms as bzzagent (bzzagent.com).

Summary: What a difference new headphones can make!
Review: I bought these headphones after growing dissatisfied with the ones that came with my iPod. Now I wish I had done it way sooner. The Sony earbuds do a much better job of delivering the entire music spectrum, without anything lost. I like a lot of bass, and these headphones are good at making sure I get it all. Before, I would purposely not play bass-heavy music because the standard Apple earbuds did such a ... job of delivering the low end of the spectrum. The highs are there too, with good fidelity. One caveat: the Sony earbuds block out much of the ambient sound in a given environment. This can be good, like when you're in a noisy gym or on a plane. This is not ideal, however, when you need to hear what's going on around you, like in a departure gate, waiting for your row to be called.
