Description:

Go big, go wide, and go high-def with this snazzy 51-inch projection set from Philips. The 51PP9303H offers a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio and renders 480p and 1080i high-definition signals at full resolution. It's fully compatible with DTV set-top boxes and other high-definition sources, boasting a direct-digital DVI (Digital Visual Interface), a high-definition component-video input, and even a PC input.

Several onboard technologies improve your image, regardless of the source. Active Control continuously measures and corrects all incoming signals to provide the best picture settings. This feature provides a sharp and virtually noise-free picture any time, from any NTSC source. The 51PP9303H's 3-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

EyeFidelity (480p/1050i) brings interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, giving you a choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques, progressive or interlaced, to reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping.

Also on hand is APAC (Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation), a Philips technology that automatically shifts your television picture in very small increments to defray the chances of permanent image burn-in or etching.

You get single-tuner, side-by-side PIP (picture-in-picture) from any source, meaning you can view a DVD image over an HDTV signal (or vice-versa) as well as a VHS signal over an SD TV show, depending on what you have plugged into the set--your choice. Program List shows your favorite channels at the press of a button. You can scroll through the list, highlight a favorite channel, and tune directly to the channel.

Connections include the above-mentioned DVI and HD component-video input, 1 PC inputs (RGB+H/V), 3 each composite- and S-video terminals, and an RF coaxial input for an antenna, an older VCR, or a cable box. There's also a composite-video output with a set of stereo analog (left/right) RCA outputs for use with AV receiver and integrated amplifiers.

The set offers a choice of Dolby Virtual Surround and Incredible Surround to simulate surround sound from any 2 speakers, including those featured in the 51PP9303H. The TV's 10 watts-per-channel internal amplifier gives you strong, clear sound, while auto volume leveling minimizes dramatic swings in listening level, a nice feature for nighttime viewing.
