Rating: Summary: I absolutely love this TV - pure eye candy. Review: With a TV this nice and top of the line cables you'll start to notice all of the visual flaws in movies. At first when I started watching DVD's I was some what disappointed by a lot of the less recent (and some recent) movies because I was able to see things like the grain from the film. If a movie contains visual flaws/imperfections you'll now notice them because the picture quality on this TV is so frigg'n great.
Picture Quality:
- Excellent! With a TV whose picture quality is as good as this one you're going to want to make sure you have a very good (and new) DVD player, as well as top quality Component/HDMI cables. If you don't you'll definitely regret it. DVD players with HDMI outputs are still in their infancy, but if you can afford one I would highly suggest it. I used to think a DVD player connected via component cables were as good as it gets - until I got this TV. Since the screen is so large, and the picture quality is so high you want the highest quality cables (preferably HDMI). If you plan to use some cheap cables you bought at Radio Shack, then don't bother getting this TV.
- One annoyance I have with this TV is that the viewing angle isn't all that great in a well lit room. During the day I have to close all of the blinds in the living room to comfortably watch TV. When the room is dark the viewing angle is great, it's just when the room is bright that you might have problems.
Sound:
- The sound is excellent. I use my surround sound system for DVD's, and Toshiba's built in speakers for Cable TV. I'm able to crank the built in speakers all the way up without any loss of quality. Overall I have absolutely no complaints about the built in speakers, and thoroughly enjoy them.
Extras:
-The remote controller works fine, and has a backlight. However when the backlight is turned on it makes a very annoying 'buzzing' noise, so most of the time I leave that feature off. The flash card reader works without a problem, but it's pretty darn slow. I have a 2.1MP camera and my CompactFlash card takes a while to load onto the screen.
Conclusion:
- If you want to maximize picture quality with size and features, for a reasonable price, then get this Toshiba 57H94 TV (or a similar model) and you wont be disappointed. However, keep in mind that in order to utilize a TV as nice as this one you're definitely going to want the best cables and dvd player you can afford. It's important that you don't cheap out on those.
