Description:

Powerful in size and nimble in ability, Samsung's gigantic 55-inch rear-projection HCN559W features a built-in DTV decoder so you can enjoy high-definition entertainment from over-air HD broadcasts right out of the box. Apart from a standard broadcast antenna, there's no additional hardware required, no additional connections to make--except, of course, up to 10 of your other video source components, like DVD, DVR, VCR, camcorder, cable box, or others. The set's widescreen display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies. Its dark-bezel, silver-gray cabinet makes it a great choice for stylish, big-screen entertainment in large rooms.

Whether your passion is for DVDs, sports, or movies, the HCN559W delivers high performance and convenience. Three high-resolution, 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect System Pro, delivering highly focused illumination across the entire screen through incorporated features like HD Fine Focus lenses and a high-performance HD Fine Pitch lenticular screen with anti-glare protection. PerfectFocus digital auto-convergence gives you convenient picture focus at the push of a button. Samsung's Cinema Progressive Scan automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressively scanned images.

An important element of Cinema Progressive Scan is 3:2 pulldown detection, which renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Samsung also includes its proprietary video-enhancement technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe). DNIe performs 3D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources.

Samsung's HD Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD and HDTV. The fine-pitch, .52 mm screen brings out subtle image details otherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens. Samsung's Auto PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

A total of 10 video inputs handles more than most of the sets out there and includes a DVI (digital visual interface) input with HDCP copy protection, three composite-video and two high-definition component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, and two standard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes). An RF output and stereo analog audio out foster hookup with DVRs or other recording devices, while the set's Dolby Digital passthrough channels 5.1 surround sound (from applicable HDTV broadcasts) to a compatible audio/video receiver and multichannel speaker system.

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of two TV programs. Remote-controlled PIP functions include mixing a TV source and a video source, second screen size selection, and positioning on the TV screen.

A 15-watts-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which is designed to enhance the sound from movies and music programs alike. Sound Mode Preset gives you the best dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

Finally, a handy component shelf lets you tuck your DVD player or PVR inside your HCN559W to save a little space and strategically position it for use. (The component must be no more than 5 inches in height.)
