Summary: Great Set
Review: I looked and looked for a new TV. Read every review I could find. After purchasing a 51" projection set from Hitachi, I was impressed with the picture and quality of their sets. The 32" was one of the few of that size that would fit into my cabinet. Although, initially, I wanted a flat-screen, I decided to go with the Hitachi. This is a great TV! Picture quality is stunning. Watching DVDs from my progressive scan player is an awesome experience. I have heard some negative reviews regarding sound quality, but have yet to experiance ANY problems in that area. Instead, the sound has been great. Not as good as my surround set-up in the den, but exceptional for a TV. So far, I am exceptionally happy with my decision and purchase. Hitachi makes great TVs!

Summary: Amazing picture, but...
Review: I purchased this set a little over a year ago because I was amazed with the picture while comparing it to other sets next to it. The colors can be adjusted with the different theater settings, and I love how you can set it so that while switching channels some don't come in louder than others. I've had friends and family over for football games and to watch movies and have received many complememts on the picture.

My one problem is with something that someone else also noted. In the lower left corner of my television, the color began to look faded. I'm happy I purchased an extended warranty through Circuit City. A local technician came over to fix it a few days later, but the fading looks worse, and I will have to call them again. My speakers are pushed all the way against each wall, about 5 feet away from the TV. I REALLY don't want to replace this set with another because I love the picture I get from it, but the faded color in the corner bothers me, especially after paying so much for a TV. One other minor complaint is that I sometimes hear a high-pitched noise coming from the back of the set. That also bothers me.

I don't have a progressive scan DVD player yet, but I will probably be upgrading that and my receiver within the next year. I love the picture on this TV, but there have been a few small problems with it.

Summary: Great value in HDTV
Review: Just bought this unit. The picture quality on antenna or satellite via S-video is excellent. Set up is relatively easy and the remote is better than most, with buttons and a joystick. Even my wife the luddite can use it, although she gravitates back to the old separate remotes because she has been trained over 9 years to use those. Unit is compact and fits in my entertainment unit. The biggest factor for me is value. This TV delivers the most wanted HDTV features,eg progressive scan, the necessary inputs, a great picture, a useable universal remote, at about $300 less than comparable units. Guarantee is somewhat better than most at 12/12 as well. If you want HDTV and a great all around TV and do not want to over-pay, this is your TV.

Summary: Hitachi 32UDX10SA
Review: Overall, I'm fairly happy, but two major flaws:

1) Only one HD input - don't know what I'm going to do when I get a tuner.

2) TV is incredibly sensitive to magenetic fields. First TV has discoloration problems due to subwoofer 6 feet away through the wall in the next room. I should point out that the speaker is much closer to a Toshiba unit that exhibits no interference. The Hitachi sits where a Sony previously sat without issue. I have a theory that HD-monitors are more sensitive, but this is ridiculous. Even worse, the mask on the first unit I bought was magnetized. I had it professionally degaussed (the internal seemed to be insufficient or broken), but that didn't last 4 hours. I had to return the unit for a new one and still be careful to keep any unshielded speakers at least 10 feet away! I also suggest you minimize movement due to earth's magnetic field.

All-in-all, a great picture for the price. The weight is manageable (perhaps Hitachi skimped on shielding), which was a key factor for me. I love the aspect ratio button for anamorphic DVDs.

Summary: Breathtaking picture!!!
Review: We recently went shopping with every intention of buying a Sony Wega. In fact, we were actually in the act of paying the salesman for the Wega when we noticed the 32UDX10S over his shoulder and COULD NOT TAKE OUR EYES OFF IT!

One thing that had bothered us about the Wega and the other digital tv's in the same price range was the horizontal banding lines. You had to get pretty far away not to see them. It was something we just figured we would have to live with because we were limited by our price range, but the 32UDX10S on display had no visible banding at all! Even when we got right up to it. The way the pixels are laid out you get a PERFECTLY resolved picture even when you are inches away from the screen (not that you'd watch that close).

It was really amazing to discover that the price for the 36UDX10S was in our range. We bought the 36" model and have been watching it for two weeks. I had some reservations before it arrived because it isn't a flat screen but there is barely any reflection when the screen is on. Just that great big, gorgeous picture! The clarity of the picture is particularly noticeable on digital channels or DVD. Movies on HBO or DVD look so clear and amazing it puts actual theater viewing to shame.

We have been happy with the sound quality. We don't have a home theater system so we are listening through the tv's speakers and we do get a good surround sound effect. We were able to hook up our stereo system speakers to the tv and that even enhanced the effect. On viewing my Moulin Rouge DVD we did have to play with the sound settings a bit to be able to hear both the dialogue and the music to our satisfaction. Turns out the "music" sound preset worked best.

The only negative we've discovered is that stations that are not broadcasting digitally can look slightly blurry. This is more a function of how good the tv is that you notice the blurriness on non-digital broadcasts because the picture on digital broadcasts and dvd is so perfectly clear and breathtaking. Also, HDTV is not yet available with our cable company. We get digital cable and supposedly Time-Warner will be coming out in spring with HDTV technology. I can hardly wait. If this tv looks so great now I can assume I will be blown away with HDTV!

Now the only challenge is to drag myself away from the couch!
