Rating: Summary: Nice picture, when it works Review: Only a direct-view television could deliver an HDTV picture as sharp as this TV. Unfortunately, RCA's poor engineering on this product have left me without my TV for weeks at a time as it goes in for repair after repair. The picture quality sold me, but RCA's reliability must be considered questionable. I for one will avoid RCA products in the future as a result of this purchase.
Rating: Summary: Still one of the best out there Review: I purchased the early model of this TV 2 years ago. I still love it! There is something that I recently found out and I would like someone to clarify this for me: I use my TV to play XBox games and they look wonderful! Until I bought Soul Calibur II. This particular game is the first one that is 720p capable. This game will NOT play in my TV at that resolution. I tried switching the XBox resolution back to 480p and it works fine. I called Microsoft to check if it was a problem that they were aware of and they said that I was the first to report it.If anyone has more info on this I would like to know if the TV can play 720p or if the problem is in the XBox....
Rating: Summary: RCA Thomson: WORST warranty service I've ever experienced Review: Bought RCA F38310-YX5 HDTV from Somerville MA Circuit City in mid-November of 2002. Upon delivery, unit never worked properly. Primary complaint is that built-in internal satellite receiver fails in locking signal intermittently and unit repeatedly blows dish LNB receivers (this TV has a built in satellite receiver). Called last April for service and was directed to "Stereo Component Services", in Boston, MA. They came out to service the TV and told me that the problem was my dish. Replaced dish and LNBs, but problem remained and continued to get worse over time until receiver was completely unusable. Called for service again on June-28. Stereo Component Services came out and saw the problem, determined that the receiver (DM-1) unit was the cause, and then the owner (Frank) proceeded to call me once per week over four weeks requesting the model number of my TV over and over again. They sent another tech (David) to come out and look at the TV after four weeks and he removed the receiver unit from my television, leaving it completely dark. After another two weeks of no service and no TV I called the Thompson Complaint line (580-634-0151), speaking with "Larry". He assigned me a case number of 0211133574 and assigned the complaint to agent "Tiffany". They then proceeded to send out two of the wrong receivers to Stereo Component Services (according to the owner), and on the third try sent out the appropriate unit. The owner just installed the new receiver unit today, September 5. The TV still doesn't work. It has the same problem, being unable to lock on a good satellite signal, as before - indicating that the receiver wasn't the original problem. Please note that I have a second external SDTV satellite receiver, one that I can use to test the output from the dish. According to the external receiver, the dish and LNB's are sending out a strong signal, ruling out the dish as the culprit. Finally, Frank (the owner of Stereo Component Services), saw that the satellite receiver wasn't working and simply left saying that he had to go to another site, leaving me with a broken TV and no confirmation that he knew the problem persisted. I could not be more unhappy with Stereo Component Services. I am also unhappy with the Thompson services center as they haven't resolved my problem, nor do they seem willing to meet their contractual responsibilities as defined in the warranty contract. I know this may be more info than most wanted to read, but I thought some might be interested in just how bad a service call with RCA and their authorized service agents can get. I've kept a log of my calls with both Stereo Component Services and RCA over the last 10 weeks and now have a large notebook filled with notes. am thoroughly dissatisfied with both SCS and RCA. Don't know where to go to next, other than to post this in order to save others the trouble in the future.
Rating: Summary: A gem all around with NO service problems! Review: I love this TV! I have the new HD package and am blown away by the clarity of the picture. I also play Gamecube and XBox games on this TV in stunning widescreen. This is THE TV to get. I feel sorry for anyone who got a "dud" or re-maufactured TV, but I've never had any service issues at all. My Gamecube and XBox all work on the highest resolutions, my RCA DVD player looks STUNNING using the component inputs, and my RCA home theater sounds AWESOME with the optical audio connection. The DirecTV signal is nice and clear for me, and I rarely lose my signal even in the worst weather. One thing to remember is that people who have complaints are more likely to write a review than someone delighted with their purchase.
Rating: Summary: Still great after 2 years Review: I own a couple of these TVs, and though the prices have gone down since I bought them, I continue to consider them to be a great value. A couple of downsides that you may have already read about 1) no video out 2) slight distortion at the extreme left and rights. Other than that they remain outstanding. Most important to me is the picture quality. And though some RPTVs may be bigger, that's all they are. I've had friends purchase the latest RPTVs and we all conclude this TV has superior quality. This after watching and running test DVDs. Second, it continues to be unique. Still the only 38" 16:9 TV. Sony has a 40" tube but it's not 16:9. Other 16:9 go only to 36". Third, the HDTV and DirectTV is built in, as in no added cost or equipment. To get HDTV from DirectTV you need 3 LNBs one of which has to be 'C'. Find a good local installer. Once you have it, welcome yourself to the future. You also get more of what this TV is worth. Fourth, progressive scan and component inputs. Get yourself a great player and some decent cables. Picture is absolutely stunning. Watch animation films like Dinosaur and be absolutely thrilled by all the detail you can see. Even better than some plasma screens that don't refresh as fast, whose pixel edges tend to bleed, and have limited contrast and viewing angles. Hey, all technology grows old after a while. But I believe this TV will still be great viewing 10 years from now. Don't waste your money on TVs that aren't 16:9 or HDTV capable. Need a TV, but this now and forget it.
Rating: Summary: Great Tv after 2 years, not one single problem Review: I have had my tv for over two years now....The digital and Hd pictures are awesome...all the major networks in the Detroit area broadcast in Hd or Digital over the air nightly...Dvd movies are nothing short of spectacular....One note is that the analoge picture is visibly not as good as other expensive analog sets, so most cable and even the misrepresented "digital cable" stations are not that good...But I do not care as I did not buy this set to watch analog broadcasts. Mine has performed flawlessly....
Rating: Summary: 4.5 out of 5 stars! Review: I was one of the first 4 purchasers of this TV in America and do not regret buying! I'm sorry to read the other's reviews who have had problems with this phenomenal set and perfectly matching stand (when I bought this TV the stand -although pictured in the RCA promo packet- would not even go online for manufacturing for another month; apparently outsourced) delivered 5 weeks later and worth the wait! The only downside to me is as others have stated: no video component out (for digital recording). The retail price for this unit has since dropped to half of what I paid, but that's to be expected with any "cutting edge" HDTV product. Seems, though, RCA has lowered their quality in subsequent issuings of this model. Lucky that I bought when I did. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Rating: Summary: I'm intrested Review: I'm thinking about this TV. But I don't remember it on the shelves of the stores or on the web. Please...somone tell me about it.
Rating: Summary: Great Value Review: Get's a great picture, and HD on HBO, Showtime, HD Channel. Plus the OTA digital and HD feeds look fantastic. When you price out the fact that it includes the HD receiver, and Direct TV receiver it's hard to beat. Great Value. People that see it the first time can't believe the picture quality.
Rating: Summary: Last of an old dying breed Review: I think this may be about as large as the older (non flatscreen)TV tubes ever get. It's the last of long line of tube TV's that came before it. For that matter the tube itself is probably on the way out to be replaced by plasma. About the TV: I bought this as it has a GREAT picture. The OTA and DTV stuff is good HDTV amazing. The thing weighs a ton - you need two strong people to move it. I got one of the later models make sure you get one to avoid some of the problems with earlier releases. The upside cheap widescreen HDTV, optical audio in the downside one component in If you can find it I highly rate this tv ****
