Summary: Great TV
Review: My experience with this tv has been great. It is extremely easy to work (menu, picture mode, 2 tuner pip, memory stick) and looks great! I only have one complaint and that is the fact that the memory stick program can't read mp3's from the memory stick and the tv doesn't provide music for slide shows (some sony tv's do just that). It is still a great tv and I am very happy with my purchase.

Summary: 5 months and running strong
Review: Reportedly, Sony had a burnout problem in sets manufactured before January 2004. I bought mine in late May and it came with a January 2004 manufacturing label. It does have an excellent picture and the sound is very good. It has a wide viewing angle. It's a great TV that has worked flawlessly for two entire weeks. It also came with advice that says, "In some cases, the lamp bursts with a loud bang inside the lamp unit, but the lamp unit is securely designed so that the pieces of broken glass remain inside the lamp unit. For details, see `Replacing the Lamp' in the Operating Instructions." It looks easy to replace the lamp. I'm relieved to know in advance that loud bangs inside this set are normal.

I'm keeping the set anyway. It's light, easy to move, and it's thin, so it fits almost anywhere. If it explodes, I'll update this review.

Summary: Known Manufacturing problems
Review: This is a beautiful television, but it's coming to light that there were manufacturing problems, resulting in a large number of sets leaving the factory that die within weeks of purchase, by being unable to power up. See

for details. Mine died after 6 days. Let's hope the replacement doesn't have them same problems.

Summary: Superb picture, but a little pricey.
Review: This review is for the Sony KF50WE610:
Pros: 1. Almost the best picture...comparing to current plasma's and other DLp/LCD project TV's.
2. Definitely better than any rear projection TV and slim enough to save you that extra space.
3. Easy to move and setup.
4. No burnout issues.
5. HD Picture is the best, when compared to other TV's.

Cons: 1. Uses a replaceable projection lamp which may need to be replaced more frequently than you would think. I have had this TV for 7 months, but the bulb is still going strong.
2. I have heard about issues with TV making sounds when starting immediately after switching off. I have noticed that too, but dont think it really matters.
3. Black portions of the picture are not entirely black as you would think, but this is also noticeable only if you watch extremely carefully in night scenes. I have had some success by tweaking the "Picture", "Brightness", "Color" and "Sharpness" controls.

Overall, a very good TV, but I would have given it 5 stars if it was a little less priced and did not have the replacement lamp issue.

Summary: Great TV until it quits working.
Review: This review may be based on an isolated incident. I hope so for the sake of others out there who purchase this tv. I've only had it for about 3 weeks, and now it doesn't work at all. Up until this morning I was very happy with my new tv. The picture quality is amazing. The size is perfect for my living room. It had my wife and me watching dvd's that we thought we'd never watch again just for the big widescreen experience. I haven't subscribed to HDTV service yet, but watching dvd's on my progressive scan dvd player with my tv tweaked for optimum quality is amazing. We watched a movie last night. Everything was fine... no sign of trouble. This morning I tried to turn the tv on, but it didn't work. I thought the lamp had blown out. I called sony's tech support and we figured out that it wasn't the lamp. I don't know what it is. I was refered to a local authorized service center, and the soonest they can look at it is two weeks from now. Two friggin' weeks! I can't believe it. I feel like I should be compensated in some way. I blew a huge chunk of money, and now all I have is a huge broken tv taking up space in my house. Be warned. The standard warranty is good for one year, but I think I should have bought the extended warranty. I'm even beginning to consider returning the television. This is rediculous.

Summary: Long awaited for much disappointment
Review: We bought this tv 6 weeks ago and had to wait that long to receive it. We were so excited to pick it up and install it only to find that there was barely a picture at all. Six weeks of waiting and so far no enjoyment. The technician finally came out today and said that the mirror was broken (probably in shipping) and now the store tells me we have to wait another 10 WEEKS for a new set. I think "fergeddaboutit"!! What has happened with SONY?? My guess is probably that a bunch of these are going to turn up damaged. It stinks to roll out over 3 grand and have nothing to show for it!!
