Description:

Offering premium quality in a 34-inch CRT set, Philips' 34-inch Matchline Series widescreen 34PW9819 offers a Real Flat, high-definition picture tube to give you the best home-cinema viewing when you use the set with a progressive-scan DVD player or an outboard digital set-top box for DTV reception. Picture enhancements include a sophisticated 3D Y/C digital comb filter (which improves the quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl) and Digital Natural Motion and Pixel Plus, which bring interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm. Pixel Plus digital processing offers a choice of two different scanning techniques: progressive scan or Pixel Plus.

Progressive scan doubles the number of picture lines, eliminating line flicker and providing a jitter-free picture. Pixel Plus improves the appearance of onscreen motion. The number of picture lines is increased along with the number of pixels per line, giving normal broadcast signals, DVD reproduction or Digital TV signals, unparalleled sharpness and depth. This gives you near-high-definition and natural looking detail from SD (standard-definition) interlaced signals. Further, a feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second.

Double-window, dual-tuner PIP (picture-in-picture) delivers the ability to split the television picture in half and display two independent television shows at the same time without having to use an additional source for tuning. A surf button lets you easily switch among only the channels that are of interest to you (the ones that you have programmed into the TV’s Surf control through the onscreen menu). Surf allows two-channel surfing or nine-channel surfing.

The set offers Dolby Pro Logic surround decoding along with four-channel sound and 15 watts per channel (left, center, right, subwoofer) with deep bass for a rich, theatrical presentation. An integrated center speaker sits in the best possible position for dialog reproduction, and a feature called 3D Surround simulates surround sound from any two speakers.

An HDCP-protected DVI-HDCP direct-digital HD input and two sets of high-definition component-video inputs accommodate a PC, a set-top box/HD satellite receiver, and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly immersive AV experience. A .125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner for standard TV reception and comes with a universal remote control.
