Description:

Products don't get much more convergent than this. In one tidy package, IX's PACIUP4240 central interface unit (CIU) gives you a state-of-the-art Windows XP-based personal computer, a fully functional 15-inch flat-panel LCD television, a DVD player, a 48x recordable CD drive, an FM radio, and stereo speakers powered by 3 watts per channel. Want to use your own sound system? No problem--the PACIUP4240 offers a handy stereo output for hooking up external equipment. You even get a thin, wireless remote control to simplify operation.

Taking full advantage of the thinness of LCD screens, the 1,028 x 768-resolution CIU offers a whole PC-based entertainment system in the space of an equivalent-sized CRT monitor. The PACIUP4240 operates as a TV right out of the box. With an antenna or cable hookup, you'll be all set to catch the sports or weather while you're waiting for your computer to boot up. The set houses a 181-channel cable/broadcast TV tuner, and its picture-in-picture (PIP) feature lets you watch TV while using the computer.

You can hook up peripheral audio/video equipment as you would with a television, with a choice of composite- or S-video inputs and one set of stereo (left/right) analog RCA audio inputs. The LCD's antiscratch/antiglare glass allows for easy cleaning and added display protection.

As a PC, you're looking at a Windows XP Home operating system using a 2.4 GHz Pentium processor with 256 MB RAM and a comfy 40 GB hard drive, along with a wireless keyboard and mouse to reduce clutter and confusion while preserving the unit's stylish, high-tech look. Video graphics are 32 MB VGA shared, with a memory controller using AGPX4.

Computer connections include a VGA input, a 56 Kbps modem, four USB terminals, a video output (VGA, SVGA, or XGA), a parallel port, a microphone line input, a line out for external speakers, a 10/100 base T100 network connection, and a PS2 connector. It has one additional available memory slot (I DIMM 184-pin, DDR) and four total expansion slots (three PCI Slots, one AGP Slot, and one CNR slot). You also get a 3.5-inch (1.44 MB) floppy drive.

You can connect various multimedia devices--digital cameras, PDAs, printers, etc.--through any of four USB 2.0 ports, which pass data at 480 Mbps, faster than a FireWire connection. The LAN 10/100 connection lets you set up a high-speed Internet connection, or you can easily use the 56 Kbps modem for a dial-up account.

Supplied software consists of MS Works, IX Antivirus by Panda (30 day trial), and Nero CD Maker.
