Summary: WONDERFUL TV
Review: I highly recommend this TV. Everything all the other reviewers have said about this TV's picture quality are echoed by me. I didn't realize how poor my TV picture quality was with the old set. It's a new experience when I watch favorite TV shows or movies.
Two drawbacks --like others have said, the sound. It's not horrible, but I am considering buying some type of audio system, but my room is small and I have little room.
And, the weight is huge. I would not have managed it. Had to call in my younger, stronger nephew to do the lifting and then it was difficult.
But overall -- I'd buy it again!

Summary: Amazing picture, 16:9 compression not worth the hassle
Review: I just got this TV today as an upgrade from an old 20" trinitron. The image quality, like others on this group have noticed, is amazing. I was able to compare this TV side-by-side with about 10 other 27" TVs from sony, panasonic and toshiba. The only other TV that came close in image quality was the Panasonic Tau-series flatscreen.

The only feature that I'm underwhelmed by is the 16:9 compression mode. The idea of this feature is really cool; it compresses the scan range of the electron gun, giving you the full 500 lines of resolution inside the letterbox of anamorphic DVDs. What they don't mention is that it requires changing setup options on both the TV and the DVD player to make this work (component-inputs only). This wouldn't be a problem, _except_ that you have to revert the settings every time you want to watch a non-anamorphic DVD ... otherwise it double-letterboxes the image, making it very squashed. For me, I just don't want to go through 2 setup menus every time I switch movies, since most of my DVDs are regular widescreen, not anamorphic.

Summary: Sony Wega Televison - One Step Below HDTV
Review: I purchased the Sony Wega about one month ago. The quality of the picture tube is obviously what is most amazing. The flat screen allows anyone in a room to watch it. I have it in the corner of my living room and if you sit along either wall, the picture is just as clear as sitting directly in front of it. It has component and S-video inputs among its 4 video inputs. I have my DVD player hooked up through the component video, and the only place I have seen a better picture is on the HDTV's. The remote is easy to operate and has 4 different viewing options - preset adjustments of the color, brightness, and the like for viewing sports, movies, etc. The speakers of the television are average, however, if you have your own sound system it won't matter...if you want the best 27" there is, then the Wega is for you. If you have [the money] and are debating over whether to get a 32" television,I strongly recommend getting the 27" Wega. The picture is crystal clear and far surpasses anything out there - so the difference of 5" should not be weighted very heavily. I was formerly a Panasonic man with their PanaBlack picture tube and I liked the black tube as opposed to the grey ones that Sony had - however, the Wega has compensated and is far superior to the Panasonic! Sony Wega is the way to go!

Summary: Generally I agree on other reviewers' point, but
Review: I used this TV in my bedroom. The picture is great. However some flaws about this TV brother me. First the "pop" noise is very obvious when changing channels. It will go away if you mute the TV so it looks like the noise is from the speakers. There is very simple and cheap solution to suppress this kind of noise, I am very surprised SONY did not add this technology to this supposely high-end TV. Secondly this TV dose not have the headphone jack (to be fair, lots of other more expensive TVs don't have that either, but I did not notice that when I purchased it. 20" Wega has headphone jack, though). Finally, the noise is too loudly when you turn on the TV.

Summary: To Wega or not to Wega?
Review: I'm definately going to have to say YES! At the time I bought this, I was torn between this TV and a similar Panasonic TV. They both had similar features, but in the end, I took a chance and hoped that the Sony name would provide a good product. Boy am I glad I took that chance! Not only does this 27" Wega display beautiful picture, but it is smart and futuristic looking at the same time. A feature that really makes me happy I bought this TV is that it has many inputs (2 composite-, 1 component-, and 1 s-video). Another great feature of this TV, is that it can modify the screen to display as widescreen. So if you are a big DVD buff, but dont want to shell out a lot of cash for a jumbo widescreen TV, this one will work fine. Ofcourse the picture is vertically thinner, but it becomes more crisp and has the correct proportions. This TV also has multiple picture modes: Standard, Sports, Movie, and Vivid. Each of these modes are pretty self-explanatory and basically, they make the screen either brighter/sharper or darker/slightly blurred (which helps if your feed is a little too sharp). The remote is great too. It can control your Cable or DTV box and also controls vcr's. If you are in the market for a new TV, you really need to consider this one!

Summary: Looks great in my apartment and GREAT picture
Review: My advice to anyone buying a TV is this: GO TO THE STORE and SEE THE PICTURE before you buy anything. Trust me, not every TV is the same. I recommend visiting BEST BUY because even without a sale you know you're not getting totally ripped off.

This television really caught our eye immediately. I loved the flat-screen and beautiful picture. My girlfriend surprised herself by how much she loved the picture and the silvery exterior. Shocked that she had so much enthusiasm for ANY electronics, I too agreed that it was a great TV.

It looks great in my apartment, has a BEAUTIFUL flat-screen picture, and all of my A/V components hook up to it perfectly. I have had NO problems with it either... ...

Bottom line: GO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF!

Summary: Outstanding Picture Quality..
Review: My friend purchased this model a few weeks ago when upgrading from his older 27inch jvc and the change in picture quality was startling to say the least! I can honestly say this is the sharpest, clearest picture I have seen on any television I have come across. Playing dvds through this thing is a pleasure and really shows how much dvd is capable of image wise. The tv has tons of configuration options, and while it does cost a lot for the size, it is well worth it for the amazing picture you get. Be warned, this is a lot heavier than a normal 27inh tv, it took 2 of us to get it upstairs, and weighed at least 75 lbs heavier than his old 27 inch jvc.
