Summary: Prepare to spend extra money.
Review: Even though I was very happy with the purchase of a SONY TV, WEGA...With excellent quality image and color definition, the truth now is that all that is gone. Yes, after spending over $500 in a SONY product I found out that now I have to spend an extra $250 for the power supply repair. Now, after contacting several repair technicians, the answer was that this was a common malfunction in most SONY TV's, specially in the WEGA type. Contacting Sony the answer was that they agreed that that was a common problem. Even though I puchased this TV exactly 3 years ago and thinking that the product will give me a good ten years, like one of my older TV's. With no extended warranty which will be also an extra cost to the purchase and by the time the event would have happened the warranty would have expired. The only thing that Sony could do was give me the names of the places that I could send to repair so I can spend more money on THEIR original parts. Knowing this, my faith in purchasing the brand name: SONY, as a quality product, will be now a myth.

Summary: Wonderful picture, wretched sound
Review: Has got wonderful picture. But what happens to sound?!! I got the speaker replaced under it's warantee. Still poor sound. And the problem is not in the speakers. The BODY of the TV is damned cheap, it vibrates!!! And produces a completely irritating "chirr" sound in the background. Non-music lovers would not notice, but music lovers will hate.

Not just the body, they saved money on the screws and bolts. The circuits inside are just put there, they are not even tightened to place with screws. The speakers are held in place by only two screws. Result, the whole thing vibrates.

Have to admit that they have a good support. The guy came and replaced my speaker. Though he told me the very first day that the problem is not in the speaker, but in the body of the TV, which is so light. We put styrofoam inside so that the body does not vibrate. Things improved, but I still hear those sounds.

Summary: State of the art for conventional tube TVs
Review: Having lived with an aging 20" TV for the past 10 years, I couldn't help but be impressed by newer technology and bigger screens. But having spent hours comparing new sets at several different stores, I realized that Sony's flatscreen Wega line was impressive, even amongst its competitors' best efforts. Not only does Sony's technology provide the best possible picture, but they've loaded this set with enough inputs, outputs and features to justify the slightly-higher Sony price tag.

The flat screen really does live up to the hype. When combined with the 3-D digital comb filter, the picture rendering is truly superb. Add to this both S-Video and composite inputs, and you have a chance to bring the best possible signal into the box. The on-board audio is adequate, certainly useful for regular television viewing. Sufficient outputs are available to connect a separate audio system. Similarly, the multiple inputs allow you to connect several different devices (e.g., VCR, DVD, etc.) without having to chain them together serially. The 2-tuner picture-in-picture allows you to effortlessly surf either the main or embedded picture, and you can reverse them (or just switch the sound) at the touch of a button.

I've only found a few negatives to this set. Although it will automatically scan for active channels and program itself, it doesn't seem to pick up the channel names - you have to program these manually. This is surprising, considering Sony's VCRs are able to do this. The other negative is the manual, which is cheaply produced and poorly written. Again, surprising compared to other Sony manuals I've seen.

Overall this is a superb television set, with a terrific picture and feature set, offered at a reasonable price. The 32" and 36" versions are perhaps even more spectacular, but their bulk (both physical size and weight) may make them impractical for many buyers.

Summary: AWESOME TV
Review: I bought the 36". It to is a FS12. Same model, same color, same everything as the 27". I totally agree with all the positive remarks made in all other reviews. Flat screen, picture quality, DVD enhancement, component & S video. I just felt the need to counterpoint others reviews about the silver color and the "pop". First, the silver color is 'soft', so it doesn't stand out. It doesn't call extra attention as a loud contrasting color. In fact, after the first day or two, one doesn't even notice it. Second, the "pop" when turning on the TV is something a person isn't use to at first. But its not earth shattering. Its really a minor sound. It to is hardly noticable after the first day. For me, if you grade a perfect TV at 100%, then this one can be no worse than 99.9%. But I highly recommend spending extra to get the 36". ITS AWESOME!!

Summary: WEGA IS WEAK!
Review: I bought this TV a year ago & it's been nothing but a headache! The picture keeps pulling in & out or it shrinks in size to a 15" picture in the center of the tube! I've had it repaired 3 TIMES in one year! Sony tech is weak! They have replaced the entire circuit boards & video cards that project image to corners of flat screen & it still freaks out! SOUND is weak...you have to add stereo speakers with BASS since the tiny speakers do NOT deliver deep tones no matter how you adjust it...

LOOKS COOL BUT DON'T BE FOOLED!

Summary: Flat Screen excellent for Movies and Sports
Review: I finally convinced my wife to buy a new TV to replace the 19" I have owned for the last nine years. After doing some searching on the net, we decided on looking on TVs with a 27" screen. Not too big to overpower a room, not too small so the screen is viewable.

The flat screen of the Sony sold us. The S-Video and multiple A/V jacks added a definite bonus. Avoid the higher priced version unless you want Picture-In-Picture. That was the main reason for the increase in price.

The first thing we watched was the new edition of Star Wars in Letterbox format. This TV combined with my existing A/V components make for an excellent home theatre. Another reviewer makes note of the silver box in which the TV is encased, I find it easy to ignore.

Definitely worth it!
