Toshiba's flat-tube 27AF42 offers stylish looks, convenient features, and technological innovations. The 27-inch fine-pitch, flat-picture tube minimizes unwanted reflections from room light and increases the viewing angle while enhancing picture linearity to produce accurate, lifelike images. Three-line digital comb filter and a vertical contour correction further enhance resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Meanwhile, dynamic focus improves edge and corner focus so you can enjoy legible text and graphics even at the outside of the screen. Advanced velocity-scan modulation also works to improve definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The nickel-alloy construction of the 27AF42's Invar shadow mask enhances color reproduction (nickel-alloy resists heat better than conventional iron masks), and a black-level expander improves contrast for a more theater like picture. The set gives you stereo reception (with 5 watts per channel) and SAP (second audio program), which is often used to broadcast an alternate-language track. The set simulates surround sound from a stereo source for a greater sense of sonic space, while the sub-bass system (SBS) enhances the low-end delivery. A ColorStream component-video input affords optimum quality when connected with a compatible DVD player or cable/satellite system; standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players.
