I considered larger sets: for the price, I could have gotten a cheap 36 inches. I settled on the Sony from the various reviews I read.
Simply put: I wasn't dissapointed! The image is stunning and the sound is amazing. Connections at the back will let you hook-up everything you have and the remote is likely to control it.
I poundered on the alternatives for a long time but there is simply no better TV out there, period.

Summary: It's a stop and stare kind of picture
Review: I received this TV from my wife for Christmas. Boy, does she know how to pick 'em. The high quality picture will lure you in and make you want to watch it...the sound quality will make you want to turn up the volume.The flat screen on this Sony is wonderful. Bright screen, and easy to view from the side as well as head on. What really gets me is the quality of the color black on the screen. "What is he talking about?" you might ask. Go watch your existing TV and watch the picture when the shot is dark. The color black will seem a shade brighter than true black (Let's say dark charcoal). On the Sony it is truly black. And this is not just from turning the brightness down; it really must be seen to appreciate it. It just makes for a sharper image. I have digital satellite service, Dish Network, and the picture quality really shines off the higher quality channels (Let's just say the local channels are a little over-compressed...but that's another review). Lastly, the amount of inputs on the back of this TV allow me to hook up the DVD player, Xbox, VCR and satellite without resorting to external switches. And all can be controlled from the universal remote, even the Dish Network receiver. As with all reviews, this is based solely on my own observations. YMMV.

Summary: Beautiful TV.....
Review: I was considering the flat panel TV's but decided against it because most of them have very tiny speakers that sound hollow. This Sony unit features WOW sound effects that gives it more umph. The picture is gorgeous as with any Sony Trinitron TV. It is a bit pricy but well worth it.

Review: I was moving into a new house and thought it was time to get a new TV. After doing extensive research, and not wanting to pay the current high price for HDTV, I decided on this new Sony Wega. It was a simple decision, really. I mean as far as non-HDTV TV's go, this set blows away the competition. the closest runner up in my opinion was the Toshiba... but the extra [money] for this TV is more than worth it.
The picture quality is amazing. No other set came close. Combined with the asthetics of the set itself, this is one beautiful TV.
As far as sound goes, this set is 10 times better than anything I heard from other TVs this size. With built in subwoofers and the "WOW" sound feature, the sound is full and rich.
I've had this set for a few months now and I'm very glad I spent the extra couple hundred to have a better viewing experience every time I turn on the TV.

Summary: Many People Have Problems
Review: I won this TV at work so I have no bitterness of losing money on it. Simply put, it doesn't last like a SONY product used to. It quit powering on and I Googled this problem and several people have it. The manual even refers to it but just says you need to get it serviced. This tells me that Sony knows their stuff sucks now.
I realize there are a few good reviews of this product, and a week ago I would have written one also, but their time is coming.
