Description:

The 16-inch stereo TXN1634F is tiny enough for a bedroom but good enough--with its 500 lines of horizontal resolution--for center stage in a miniature home theater, provided you're channeling your DVD or satellite audio through a stereo or surround receiver and speaker system. The set's DynaFlat anti-glare, dark-tint picture tube offers a high-contrast image free of geometric distortions and picture-marring ambient-light reflections.

For bedroom or kitchen use, the TXN1634F sports a pair of side-mounted, front-firing speakers powered by 2.5 watts per channel, and several sound mode offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching: choose from standard, music, movie, or speech. A side-panel stereo headphone jack allows private listening (headphones not included), and Turbo Sound boosts high and low frequencies for a livelier experience.

Four presets video settings optimize the picture for the type of program you're watching. Select from standard, natural, mild, or custom, with user-adjustable brightness, contrast, sharpness, color, and tint. The TXN1634F's digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

If you're clicker-happy, you'll love the unit's full-function remote control and the delightful Remote Surf Timer, which returns the set to your original channel in a timely fashion so you can freely browse other channels during commercial breaks.

Connections include a DVD-ready component-video input (480i), two composite-video/stereo analog audio jacks, and an RF input (for an older VCR or cable box). Convenient side-panel AV inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letter-boxed DVDs right from the remote. Other handy features include auto station setting (with non-volatile backup memory to retain your settings during power outages), on and off timers, and a self-diagnostic mode to assist with setup.
