Rating: Summary: Lots of features, good price, ... pathetic picture quality Review: I purchased one of these sets ... because of the excellent price and feature set. However, I quickly found that you get what you pay for. The picture tilted on the left hand side of the screen and also cut off a noticeable part of the left of the image. Philips tech support could only recommend that I return the unit.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BUY!!! Review: I purchased this television to start a home theater system, expecting to go out and buy a big speaker set to go with it. Upon setting the televison up and turning it on, I realize I don't need a bunch of speakers. The sound out of this television is phenomenal. It has 4 preprogrammed sound choices (Personal, Music, Voice, or Theater) as well as 5 pictures choices (Personal, Movies, Sports, Weak Signal, and Multimedia) to choose from, so you won't have to play with your image and sound controls depending on what you are viewing. It also has Bass and Treble controls, as well as a balance. The picture is great (I haven't received my go video yet, so I can't say for certain, but I'm sure it will be even more wonderful in DVD and VHS). This is just an all around great buy, especially if you are thinking of starting a home theater system. I've always thought Philips makes wonderful products, but they have outdone themselves this time.
Rating: Summary: I love this TV despite the little problem it has Review: I purchased this TV for... (i get a discount from my work :) and I love it. First of all, it resembles a Wega, but for hundreds less, and with more features, the picture is really good, and the sound also. The only problem I have with it is that is pinches the picture towards the center for some reason. I returned it and got another one, but it was doing the same thing, so I asumed it was normal, and it doesn't really bother me anymore. Overall, this TV is a lot better than my old 19" Philips I upgraded from.
Rating: Summary: Philips 27" Color TV, why don't you work!??! Review: I recently purchased this philips TV, along with the 704 DVD player, with dreams of component video images running through my head. Three flights of stairs and a bit of back pain later, i was sorely disappointed to find out that the component video function was not working. (the rca jacks worked fine) I spent over an hour on the phone with customer service, who although very polite, told me nothing that wasn't already in the manual. they pretty much told me that they had no idea what was going on, and suggested i take it back and return the defective product.I purchased this product (along with the DVD player) for its low price and high quality inputs. However, being faced with moving a large tv back to the store makes me wonder if my money would've been better spent on something more expensive that would have worked as promised, without the headaches (and backaches) that this TV has brought On the plus side, customer service was very polite, the TV is very aesthetically pleasing, and has decent sound for the built-in speakers. the remote and the manual, however, leave something to be desired. Even the customer service representative i spoke to was confused by the manual's diagrams when he pulled it up on the computer...not a very encouraging sign at all.
Rating: Summary: Died after 2 months Review: I thought I was getting a great deal on an attractive TV. The model in the store looked like it had a good picture and from what I knew, Phillips was a decent brand. After less than 2 months, it just stopped working. It's now been in the repair shop for 3 weeks because the "brains" of the TV died and they have to get a bunch of replacement parts which could take a few more weeks. It's under warranty, but I wish I'd bought something else. The money I saved is not worth the hassle.
Rating: Summary: A T.V. from JR's is a refurb Review: I was surprised to see this TV listed on Amazon for "such a good price", it seemed too good to be true. I tracked it back to JR's website and there they list it as a refurbished TV. That info was unclear on Amazon's description.
Rating: Summary: For [$] it's a steal! Review: It was time to replace our old TV in the bedroom. I didn't want to spent a large sum of money. I researched the web for different 27" models. After researching [a local store], I noticed the Philips 27PS55S got a lot high marks... commented about the outstanding picture quality and sound for a TV priced under [money]... thought this model was better than TV's costing over [more money]. I hooked it up to my DVD using a S-video cable. The picture quality was very impressive and crisp. To my eyes, I thought it was a flat screen. The picture quality was a good if not better than my Sony Trinitron. The other great features on this TV were the different screens (sports and theatre) and the sound fields. The Philips 27PS55S is a excellent TV set that has the picture quality of sets worth over [more money], I would call ahead to make sure [local store] has them, because the sale's clerk told me they sell out quickly.
Rating: Summary: beware the philips wolf in sheep's clothing... Review: Our purchase of this tv was in february 2003. It worked beautifully for 2 whole months! At that point the sound would intermittently drop out for long periods of time. after a couple weeks of this and not wanting to be without a tv, we took our old tv in for repair. After waiting just one week for our original 15 year old zenith to be repaired, we brought in the philips for warranty repair (which only covered parts at that point). To make a long story short, the repair shop has had our tv over 7 months. They replaced several parts of which none were successful. For the past several months philips' customer care and return authorization department has been giving us the run-around, refusing to replace it. After calling the corporate office switchboard in Atlanta(which incidently isn't provided through customer care website links, just the site map), Freddie finally told us that we would have a new tv in 7 to 14 days... WE'LL SEE!! But I still won't buy a philips product of any kind ever again. And you shouldn't either unless you are a true masocist...
Rating: Summary: Great TV! Review: The best tv for the price. Amazing features and the best picture.
Rating: Summary: Good TV for a GREAT price. Review: This is a great television for its price. I'm somewhat of a HT nut and an audiophile :), so the picture quality is very important to me. I dont use the tv's speakers, so I can't comment on the sound. I like the picture on this better than my old 20" sony wega, which was purchased for ... (shipped) compared to the ... shipped for this tv. DVD's viewed with the component video output look great. I used to do the "anamorphic squeeze" on the wega, but I dont feel the need for it on this. On the down side, if you are planning to use AVIA and calibrate it yourself, it's harder to get into the service menu, than the other brands. You have to remove the back to get into the menu. If you don't know what I'm talking about.....then good for you, you'll never have to obsess over calibration etc. Overall, great NTSC display at a really good price.
