Summary: Could be helped by a few improvements...
Review: Even though I am not an extreme diehard fan of the show, I had this on preorder a month and a day exactly.

Apparently, the people who have the technology to make DVDs were lazy and didn't compress it very well, but then again, animation wasn't the best on DVD. The audio's excellent though, very clear with very few errors.

As most of you know, The Simpsons started its actual run in about January 1990 (The Christmas special should stick as that, it seems it was officially labeled "Series Premiere"). The pace of the show was a lot slower and the animation was different from the Ullman shorts, but close to its current form in Season 2 on.

Homer wasn't as dumb and Dan Castellaneta voiced him as a Walter Matthau sound-alike. His mouth movements were also a bit exaggerated (especially when eating).

There wasn't a lot of differnece in Marge as the seasons moved on, very little in Lisa too.

Bart was the coolest kid on TV and probably still is, despite the fact that the show didn't really move in fashion trends, and he's probably the reason why the FOX network and the show is still running.

Here's a little easter egg for you, preferably on a DVD-ROM computer: Run Disc 3, Click Extra Features, Click Next, then there's a drawing of Bart reading a Radioactive Man comic book. Click on his shirt. Now you're watching an ABC News report from 1990 about the controversy of the infamous T-shirts and about schools banning them to prevent proud underachievers :-)

Because of the different style of animation and weird voice acting, these eps probably have the most character. If you're an aficionado, BUY IT! If you're a casual fan, BUY IT! If you're not a fan at all, BUY IT!

Summary: In the immortal words of Montgomery Burns, "Excellent!"
Review: Everyones favorite dysfunctional family is now coming to you on DVD. Got a kick out of hearing all the different langauges the show was recorded in. I hope in future releases of Simpsons, they include interviews of the various actors whose voices we've enjoyed for these past 11 years and some Simpson's trivia.

Summary: The Simpon's are GREAT, this DVD needs WORK
Review: I love the simpson's, and this has all the first season on it...but the navigation on the DVD and general refinements need A LOT of work. Also, I wasn't terribly impressed with the extras, particularly the "commentary" it was mostly them creators laughing at themselves. I hope this improves on the second season DVD...

Summary: Loved It
Review: I would never claim to be a Simpson fanatic, however this DVD set brings out everything that is great with the series and then some. My favorite addition is the commentary by the creator and writers. If you love the Simpsons this is a must buy and if you are a fan in any way you should at least check it out

Summary: Great Collection
Review: Ever wish the Simpsons were the only thing on the TV? I have, and now my wish has come true. The first season collection has some great classic moments. Among my favorite are the water balloon military mission against Nelson, and the family therapy session with electronic shocks that brings down the Springfield power grid.

Summary: Mediocre at best
Review: Personally I at first thought this DVD collection was going to be one of the most watched in my collection. However, as soon as I popped in the DVD all I could think of was "When is season 2 coming out?". The animation is god awful, and this is so not the Simpsons I am used to. Every episode has one really funny part AT BEST, and the only reason I gave it 3 stars was because it was so cheap. Heck, if it was any more expensive no one would of bought it! I also didn't like the menu system, which caused me to switch through menus just to view the next video in the set. I wouldn't recommend this DVD to anyone except those diehard fans who have loved the show since the begining.
