Summary: Bart The Genius
Review: The Simpsons is obviously the greatest sitcom/TV show of all time. I am not going to get in to all that, but I will say that the first season of The Simpsons was simply the best stuff Matt Groening and the boys ever have done, and the best they ever will do. The new Simpsons just doesn't have the raw feeling you get from these episodes, which are all equally funny. The best is "Bart The Genius," and the best scene is when they are at the Opera!! Long live The Simpsons.

Summary: How It all Started
Review: This is the first , and probably worst, season of this Simpsons. Having said that, it is still awesome. Yes the show has improved over the years, and yes the stories/drawings etc have gotten better but the humor is still the same. This is a must have for any Simpsons fan.

Summary: Great..but could be better.
Review: The fact that there is commentary for every episode and that the set contains all the episodes from the series makes this a great buy for Simpsons fans. However, the extras leave something to be desired. The only really worthwhile extra is the one that shows one simpsons clip in several different languages..great fun! If you are not a Simpsons series completist I would suggest saving your money for season two which has much more interesting and entertaining commentary and has better extras..not to mention better episodes that more closely resemble current Simpsons episodes.

Summary: The Price is NOT Funny
Review: If you already seen the TV series, you know this is funny stuff. But look at the price...expensive! If you enjoy the Simpsons and you are smart, you would have recorded each episode on your VCR religously. But if you have not done this, you now have to pay for it. Yeh, its digital, but people watch it for the humor, not for the clear picture.

Summary: A Trip Down Memory Lane
Review: The first season of many TV shows can be very different from the later seasons. Characters are being introduced for the first time. Some characters that were originally intended to be major characters don't work out, and some minor characters steal the scenes. And the central characters are often not very well developed. The Simpsons are no different in that regard.

Chief Wiggums is fairly competent the first time we meet him. Ned Flanders is the neighbor who has all the best material things, and has not yet dedicated his life to God. Apu is practically just a prop in his store. Homer's voice changes during the first season, and Lisa starts out as a normal kid.

The pace of the shows is slower than the more recent seasons, and some of the backgrounds are more cartoonish than now. The floor plan of the Simpson house changes constantly, as does the layout of the town.

However it's not hard to see how the writers and the animators are blazing new trails in the first season. We see camera angles and shots that before the Simpsons were more likely to be in a cinematic movie than a TV show, let alone an animated feature.

Having seen these shows many times in syndicated reruns, the first time I watched the DVD I used the soundtrack that included commentary from Matt Groening with the directors, writers and animators of the various episodes. To hear their reactions to these old classics, along with the back stories the told was fascinating. I feel I've walked away with a deeper understanding of The Simpsons.

At first blush, one might think that it's a waste of money to buy a DVD of a TV show that's still seen every day, sometimes multiple times a day, in syndication. You can see The Simpsons every day for free! But you can't get the commentary if you don't have the DVD, and the syndicated reruns are not rerun in the original order. (Seeing them in the original order also allows you to see how things develop over time.)

It would have been better if there were more DVD-only features, but I really have to say that the commentary is a very strong feature all by itself. I would not buy this set on tape, but the DVD version is worth it because of that commentary. The Simpsons first season DVD is a keeper.

Summary: I love the simpsons, but.
Review: The simpsons is the best show on earth, how ever the first season is not the best to date. The caracters were a little funny looking and most of the best caracters were not introduced untill the second season. Buy this if you have to have everything that is the simpsons, but the second season is better!

Summary: As Bart and Lisa would say...meh
Review: Let's face is folks...this season only has a handful of really funny moments. This show was just getting off the ground at this time. The animation is sub par...there are lots of coloring mistakes...etc. Collector's will want this set for its sentimental value, but the everyday fan just looking for a laugh should probably spend his or her money on season two or later.

Summary: If you are a fan you will love it
Review: This DVD season of the Simpsons first season is awesome! There are 3 differnt disk of laugh out loud comedy. Some of the special feautres include the script for some of the episodes. This script has the pencil mark corrections so you can see where they changed the script. One of the best features that you may have assumed is no cormercials. This means you can watch your favorite episode over and over without having to fast foward through the comercials or having to suffer by not bieng able to have your Simpsons. I also highly recomend Simpsons trivia and second season DVD. Dont worry the third is coming out soon too! But make sure to chck it out and tell them you want it NOW.

Packed inside the beautiffully designed artwork for the cover are three discs, holding 13 episodes along with a handful of extra features (hilarious commentaries on every episode!), with spellbinging picture and amazing surround sound in the everlasting quality that is DVD! This is one of the reasons to buy a DVD player!

Summary: The Birth of the Simpsons
Review: The Simpsons are a bit different in the first season. The voices are still a work in progress, and some of the characters are still under development. But the early Simpsons have a heart and a charm that's missing in late-season episodes. It's less cynical, less mean, but still fun and clever (even in a 1990 sort of way).
