Summary: A must for devotees, but not as good as season 2!
Review: I was a little surprised when I viewed these episodes again after so many years. The creators seemed to still be working on their chops in many of these episodes--they lack the relentless sarcastic fun poked at everything and everybody in the later shows (starting in season 2), as well as not making the little cinematic references more common in later episodes (like Homer being thrown into the ending of "2001" when he sits in the perfect easy chair). Homer's voice is even different in the first season. There are a number of interesting extras, including one funny commentary track where someone is so disgusted with the crude quality of an early unreleased show that he actually walks out and the commentary ends. If you're a die-hard Simpsons fan, you'll want this for your collection. If you just want to watch some funny Simpsons episodes, you're better off buying the collection from the second season where the creators have really hit their stride.

Summary: Classic television comedy -- work on the DVDs
Review: The Simpsons has earned its place among the best and most successful television shows of all time. And now we can begin to understand why -- just listening to the commentaries by a great variety of the folks responsible for this longest-running sit-com ever takes you behind the scenes into the creative process and the warped minds responsible for all the fun.

In future DVDs I'd like to see ALL of the Tracey Ullman shorts. Also the menus are hard to navigate.

But all griping aside. I'm just glad to be able to throw away those worn out VHS tapes I had made from the re-runs.

There are 14 seasons guys! Can't you put them out a little faster?

Summary: Long Live The Simpsons
Review: This DVD is a must have for anyone who calls themself a Simpson fan. I got my DVD the day it released and watched the entire thing twice before the day ended. If anyone knows how great this product is it's me. Putting the seasons on DVD is genius and I will continue to collect all the seasons when they come and I know if you buy the first season you will not be disappointed. To put it in words people understand this DVD kicks major ass.

Summary: For Simpson Fans Only
Review: If you are not a fan of the Simpsons, than I don't even know why you are looking at this. If you are a fan of the Simpsons stop reading this and buy it now. It doesn't have a lot of extras but it does have a few scenes from the foreign versions of the Simpsons. The Spanish and the Japanese versions of the Simpsons are hilarious. And if you have watched the Simpsons enough times in English and memorized what is said in every episode than you can learn how to speak French by watching them all in French.

Summary: First season box set is worth owning!
Review: I'm not what you would call a major diehard Simpsons fan but I do like the cartoon and I think this first season DVD box set for the Simpsons is very good, I really enjoyed watching all of the episodes, it's true that the animation and voices aren't as well defined as today but it's still great and very funny and some of my very favorite episodes are from the first year, like The Crepes of Wrath, The Call of the Simpsons, and Bart the Genius just to name a few, of course I have favorite episodes from later seasons too but I still like the first season and I have a feeling that these DVDs will get a lot of use especially on those blah days when we need some good belly busting laughs! The only complaints I have with this set is that only one episode is on disc 3 and a few extras when it seems like such a waste and that they could ave either put that one episode and the few extras on disc 2 or the one episode on disc 2 and all of the extras on disc 3, and I'm disappointed that they didn't include all of the Tracy Ullman shorts that started it all but despite that it's a great DVD set and the price is worth it especially if you get it on sale. I'm very happy that I have this set in my collection So I definitely recommend it. Next I have to watch the second season box set that I got for my birthday and as soon as I finish watching those episodes I'll write a review.

Summary: Starting off with a bang
Review: The Simpsons Season 1 DVD set is a must have for Simpsons fans! Not only do you get the whole first season, but it also includes the Christmas episode (which personally I have to watch EVERY holiday season!) Although not as funny as later seasons, this would be PERFECT for the Simpsons fan for a gift!!

Summary: Rough start, but has classic moments from TV's best cartoon
Review: The Simpsons is one of my favorite TV shows, along with Pinky and the Brain and Teacher's Pet. This season isn't as funny as most of the 2nd season onward ep's, but this DVD is still worth owning. Here are my episode reviews:

Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire: This is a good start for the Simpsons. I am surprised that the first episode shown was a Xmas special, but, at the same time as being a special, it gives intros to the Simpsons family, Mr. Burns, Patty and Selma, Grandpa Simpson, Barney, Moe, and shows the entrance of the family dog, Santa's Little Helper. Very good.

Bart the Genius: I found this one a tiny bit short on humor. Still, the math problems shown openned me to the world of algebraic fractions.

Homer's Oddessy: Haven't watched this one that much, but what I remember of it includes Homer getting fired, Homer starting a safety movement in the town, and almost stopping Burns' power plant from running if Homer wasn't hired again. I still don't know what Homer's job was before safety inspector.

There's No Disgrace Like Home: Best episode on disc 1. The electro-shock scene is hillarious! I still don't know what is so annoying about Dr. Marvin Monroe, though.

Bart the General: Classic. This has great lines such as, "You made me bleed my own blood!" and, "Is it OK if they say 'happy birthday'?" "I'd rather they'd say 'death from above'!" Don't forget grandpa's letter and Herman's insanity!

Moaning Lisa: Kind of boring. The video game subplot is good though, and this is the first cartoon to truely develop Lisa's character.

The Call of the Simpsons: Pure Classic! This is the best cartoon on the DVD! With plot twists (eg. Maggie meeting the bears, Homer being mistaken to be Bigfoot, etc.) and tons of jokes, this is one of those hillarious Simpsons cartoons that always makes you laugh.

The Telltale Head: This takes a while to get into the story, but the scenes that start out the cartoon, mainly the church scene, are great! The later scenes aren't as good, but they're still good. Not a pure classic, but still a good cartoon.

Life on the Fast Lane: Probibly the worst cartoon on the DVD. The Homer's-name-on-the-ball thing is OK, but everything else is boring (for me at least).

Homer's Night Out: A bit better than Life on the Fast Lane, but still not an average Simpsons cartoon.

The Crepes of Wrath: Another great one! It is funny when Bart starts speaking French without knowing it! The cherry bomb thing is funny. This even taught me one sentance in Albanian!

Krusty Gets Busted: As the first true introduction to Krusty, this cartoon goes into the mystery of Krusty's robbery of Quik-E-Mart. Sideshow Bob ends up guilty. Lots of good mystery involved.

One Enchanted Evening: This is a good one. The primative animation fits perfect for the Babysiter Bandit. Can get boring, but still good.

The features are lacking, but most of the cartoons are great!

Review: i know this is a review, but i was just wondering if this had the first Simpson's episode ever on it.

Summary: A Collector's Must Have
Review: Sure the animation was ... and the voices were freaky, but the Simpsons first year is still great none the less. You get the first season, the christmas special, and loads of goodies. The menue still neds more work and could be snazzd up alot more. Regardless, this is still a great buy.
