Summary: Classic Simpsons
Review: I am going to make this informative yet short. The picture quailty is not 100% yet as this was before they started using computers to color frames. I would say it's about 8 out of 10. It's still full of classic Simpson moments, like the softball game where Ken Griffey Jr suffers from gigantism. The commentaries are wonderful and the packaging is still magnificent. The menus for the screens are better than previous releases. This was an issue with some fans who did not want to wait for menus to load to watch episodes of The Simpsons. The price is affordable. This is one of the seasons of this show (i'm sure) that made it possible for them to be still going today. The first season is classic for obvious reason but if you don't have the other two, still buy season three first. It is simply hilarious.

Summary: Must-have collection for even casual Simpsons fans
Review: The third season is when the Simpsons hit their stride. Most of the episodes in this set are classics. Take, for example, "When Flanders Failed" in which Ned opens the Leftorium store or "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk" where Mr. Burns sells the nuclear power plant to the Germans. If you enjoy the show you'll love this set.

Summary: Worth the wait!
Review: The third season of the Simpsons is a masterpiece, & so is the DVD. Every episode on the DVD is uncut (some have footage that has not been seen since the episode originally aired). The commentaries are wonderful. Not only are they hilarious, there's a lot of juicy little trivia tidbits in there as well. Unlike the first two DVDs, season three has a play all feature for when you need a Simpsons fix, but don't want to reach for the remote every 20 minutes. All in all, the episodes are great (espically uncut) the commentaries are fantastic & the extras are just icing on the cake. This third Simpsons set (much like the third season itself) is head & shoulders above the first two. This set is a must buy & was well worth the wait!

Review: I'm the type of Simpsons viewer who pre-orders the DVD sets as soon as they're available and then watches the release date on the calendar until the glorious day comes. This time around, I was particularly excited, as some of the best episodes ever come from season 3. For the first two seasons, I went to my local mall DVD/video store, put down my deposit and then took another trip the day it came out. I did this so that I would get it the day it was released and not have to wait an extra few days for it to arrive in the mail. This time, I pre-ordered it from Amazon and was pleasantly surprised to see that it didn't cost me any more (with super-saver shipping) and it inexplicably came in the mail the day after it was available in stores! So I was really happy with this arrangement. I was also really happy with the DVDs themselves. I always watch them first with the creator/director/producer/whatever commentary on first. With the first two seasons, I honestly never got around to watching the episodes without the commentary because the quality of the show had not reached its peak and the episodes come off as boring and pointless to watch, as they're shown in syndication all the time. This is not true with the third season. The episodes are a pleasure to watch in their own right, particularly ones that aren't shown in syndication as much, like "I Married Marge" and "I Love Lisa." Also, the commentary on season 3 is much more interesting, as I think the show's powers-that-be have finally gotten the commentary thing down. A new addition to the third season is commentary by Julie Kavner, Dan Castellanetta, and Nancy Cartwright, who sometimes break into their respective characters' voices (my favorite is Nancy Cartwright's "My water broke, man!" in Bart's voice), which is really interesting and cool. Their presence also let you in on little bits of trivia such as which exchanges between characters are ad-libs and which regular or guest star does the voice of the minor characters. They're also very honest in critiquing more recent episodes (in reference to the third season, someone says, "this was when the show was good") and explain some of the more obscure references, which is nice as well. The little extras can be cute. The Butterfinger commercials are a little unnecessary (we've all seen them a million times or more) but the footage of the Bart balloon at the Macy's parade is really funny, reminiscent of the footage of the Simpsons' "appearances" at the Grammys from the second season DVDs. So, now I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the legendary fourth season. If this pattern holds, they'll continue to improve and I will happily shell out the $40 every eight months or so for each increment of my personal archive of this generation's best television show.

Summary: The Best season
Review: In my opinion the 3rd season of The Simpsons was the BEST! It's when the Simpsons became the SIMPSONS!
Since the first season came out on DVD I've been waiting for this one.The directing in this season is superb and very cinematic. I am from Puerto Rico and had seen most of the episodes in Spanish and I am very glad that a Spanish track has been included. And the addition of the actors on the commentary tracks is great.

Summary: Just starting the peak run
Review: There's no reason to go on and on about just how good the third season of the Simpsons is. In fact seasons 3-6 are all Simpsons in their prime. So this review will be geared more towards the DVD itself. This set is put together about as perfectly as any Simpsons fan could've dreamed. The biggest improvement is no longer having to click three times just to get to the main menu(like season two's annoying spinning heads!). In fact the new menus do different things with each viewing! There's been a lot complaining about this series taking too long between the release of each season. Some fans say they don't want to wait for the commentaries and extras to be added. This seems to be extremely short sighted. Think of this DVD set in a historical perspective and it makes much more sense to get it right the first time around. Fox has done just that. The commentaries and many extras(ranging from commercials to award shows)are exactly how all important tv series box sets should be done. Even though it's as important as the Simpsons, do you honestly think the entire Seinfeld gang is going to sit down and do commentary on every episode like Mr. Groening and company? We should be thankful the extras are there and that Fox isn't just putting out a "best of" series like some of the others are. So let the cookie cutter shows pump out their DVD's weekly. You'll have an entire season of one of the greatest shows in history to watch over and over again all year long. In fact..with 24 episodes in the set..if you watched one episode per week and then watched each episode with the commentary track turned on you'd have 48 weeks gone..which would be just in time for the release of the fourth and BEST season of the Simpsons!

Summary: Worth the Wait!
Review: Season Three is the beginning of the Simpsons four- to five-year 'Golden Age'. Every episode is strong in season three; with the pace of each episode becoming quicker, the jokes sharper, and the characters and animation more defined. The basic reason for the delay in the Simpsons' DVDs is the audio commentary. I, too, waited VERY impatiently for S3 to be released. But after listening to the commentaries on S3, I have to say the DVD set has been worth the wait. The audio commentaries on the Simpsons seasons one and two were good (and MUCH better than most other audio commentaries) - season three is even better. The voice talent has joined the commentaries, and it's great to hear Julie Kavner's real laugh, Dan Castellaneta describing the origin of D'oh!, Nancy Cartwright mode in and out from Bart and herself, and Yeardley Smith pitch in her thoughts. There are some other extras on the DVD as well. 'Colonel Homer' has a hilarious 'pop-up' mode with balloons describing some trivia and insights into the episode. Several episodes have original sketch accompaniment, and a few have Matt Groening's own storyboards in which you can hear the episode audio while watching the storyboards progress. Butterfinger commercials (very funny) are on disc 1, footage of a Bart Balloon at Macy's is on disc 2, and a 'Jukebox' with short videos of several of the songs of season three is on disc 4. The powers at the Simpsons should also be commended for adding a 'Play All' function to each disc, and there are some very funny (and original) couch gags on each disc. This is an absolute 'must-own' for any Simpsons fan; but just wait (again), seasons four and five are works of art.

Review: I love the simpsons but I'm tired of waiting so long. Getting one season set a year is just wrong. The powers that be have got to start cranking these sets out faster. Everybody wants the season sets; not the stupid halloween and christmas sets. If they could bring out atleast two sets a year I would be satisfied.
