Summary: The Beginning of the Golden Age
Review: I agree with many other people who are complaining about the release schedule on these Simpsons DVD collections. Is it necessary to wait an entire year between each season set? Other Fox shows are coming out much more quickly, and even the related Futurama only had five months between the sets for its first and second seasons. What gives with the Simpsons? Anyway, if you can stand the unnecessarily long wait, Season 3 of the Simpsons delivers 24 masterpieces as the series truly confirmed its status as one of the greatest in TV history.After warming up in the first season and solidifying the major characters in the second, this third season is the beginning of the golden age of the Simpsons. There is not a single weak episode here as the writing and production reached the levels of sheer brilliance that would continue for another four or five years. There is no TV series in memory that is written as strongly as the Simpsons. The key strength of the third season is the expansion of the supporting cast, as many non-Simpson characters received star treatment in their own episodes, making them as well-drawn and complex as the central family, and making them classic characters in their own right. This includes Flanders in "When Flanders Failed," Krusty in "Like Father, Like Clown," Patty and Selma in "Black Widower," and even Santa's Little Helper in "Dog of Death." I challenge you to find another TV show with such a large collection of well-drawn and complex characters. There are also great cameo appearances this season, like the second Sideshow Bob saga in the aforementioned "Black Widower," and (sadly) the last appearance of Unky Herb in "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes." The DVD extras are not too much to get excited about, except for some trivia tidbits in the otherwise predictable audio commentary by the production staff. But the episodes themselves will keep you satisfied for decades to come. That's how long it might take for the rest of the series to be released on DVD.

Review: I love this, and its worth every cent. But, uhh...... where are the Audio outtakes? I looked and looked on all the 4 DVD's but no luck. Are there any hidden
easter eggs' I can't find em? But, still DA BEST show EVA.

Summary: A SUPER DUPER FAN
Review: i love the whole season 3 dvd package much more than the season one and two package...the episodes in this season are a lot more funnier. the jokes keep coming every few seconds...but are still not as good as the later seasons...to me at least;) The commentary on ALL the episodes is just the icing on the cake. the commentary is actually FUN to listen to! those folks who have the season 1 and 2 dvds and listened to the commentaries will notice the difference. this is a must own if you love comedy!WOO HOO!

Summary: Not the best season
Review: No, this is NOT the best season. In fact, I perfer the first two more. However, like the first two seasons, the third season has some classic moments that are not to be missed (Burns taunting the Germans, for example).
The DVD interface is less intuitive and less colorful than the first two seasons, but it does have a "play all" option which is a big plus.
Of course, if you're not a HUGE Simpsons fan don't bother buying a TV show that will be on in reruns for the next 20 years like MASH.

Summary: "It's all here & it's all backwards"--Homer on the Leftorium
Review: Finally, after watching the "lighter, sweeter" side of the Simpsons in the first two seasons, we start getting into the good stuff! Sure there are some remnants of the earlier days (compare how George Bush Sr. is treated on "Mrs. Lisa Goes to Washington" to the "Two Bad Neighbors" episode in season 6), but the Simpsons' edgy social satire is beginning to bite. Some of my favorite episodes are with this set: "Radio Bart" when Bart uses a radio transmitting microphone to pretend he's a boy named "Timmy" stuck in a well only to fall in himself when he tries to retrieve the radio. One old lady says, "I liked the other boy better. He was so polite"). The media frenzy and the celebrity "We Are the World"-like benefit recording hits hilariously close to home. Another favorite, "Like Father Like Clown" has Bart and Lisa (well, mostly Lisa) trying their hand at theology to convince Krusty's father, a rabbi, to finally accept his son. I could go on and on. With my previous Simpsons viewing experience being almost solely through syndication, there are many scenes in these episodes I have not seen before. For example, in "When Flanders Failed," Homer actually ends up choking on his laughter after he wished on a chicken bone that Flanders' Leftorium would go out of business. Ironically, Flanders comes to his aid but, of course, that doesn't change Homer's desire to see Flanders' demise. Like always, there are special features galore, including a 13-song jukebox, but, for me, the episodes are all I want to see. If you liked the first two DVD sets, the best is ahead! I bought this set yesterday and can't wait for season 4!

Review: just got this yesterday. its got great episodes,which i wont review since you all knows them. you want to knowabout the extras? here goes. it doesnt have the clever menus animation the others have with the characters. but, from the main menu,when you make a selection a new couch gag starts up that is even funnier then one on tv nowadays. the extras are put in with the episodes as opposed to the end of the 4th disk. which makes more sense.the artwork onceagain is very clever.hope this helps

Review: The Simpsons is 1 of the gr8est cartoons out there. Eye love it. Eye had lost interest in the cartoon when Nickelodeon introduced "Rugrats". As soon as "The Simpsons" came out on dvd, Eye regained interest. This is a must own 4 any Simpsons fan.

Summary: A must for any fan...
Review: While the first and second seasons of The Simpsons were undoubtedly very funny, cutting edge television; it is the third season in which The Simpsons truly became the cultural institution that it is today. All of the dross that was in the first two seasons (i.e. emphasis on Bart's catch phrases, hokey endings, somewhat out of sync voices) were burned away and what remained was pure gold! There is little more I could say about the actual episodes themselves that already hasn't been said. However, I would like to point out the excellent audio commentaries that are available for each episode. My experience with them on other DVD has been awful. They are usually over-burdened by the pretensions of the commentators or are just plain boring. However, I find myself just as excited to hear the commentaries as I am the episodes themselves. The creators sound like they are having the time of their lives and relate hilarious and interesting stories about the creative process, strange happenings and guest stars in each episode.

Review: The Simpsons is the most brilliant piece of work ever created on
TV. From biting social and politcal satire to laugh out loud slapstick comedy. This - the third season - is where the show came into it's own. The first to seasons were like an animated sitcom, but the third season is where the show and it's humor started to take a more abstract form. Pure genius. Not everyone "gets" The Simpsons, and the third season is where the lower IQ crowd started to get confused.
