Review: Daisy Duke on dvd! How could I not give it 5 stars???

Review: First of all, I'm fan of the series and I love Season 1. No doubt, the Dukes of Hazzard was a great series, but it's greatness ended at the end of season 1. In all seriousness, the true quality and spirit of the show only shines in the 1st season, therefore I have to let people know as the show goes on from Season 2 and to the last 145th episode, it simply gets worse. There are only so many storylines these writers can come up with. Mind you some of the stories are great in this 2nd season, but all the good ideas and believeable storylines were clearly used up on Season 1. (Although I'm really thinking of getting Season 3 waiting for the infamous episode of Luke and Bo going at it with a fist fight)

Anyway, also worthy to note, is that the overall quality of the show has appeared to diminish as the series progresses. The 1st season "fans fondly recall because some of the programs were shot on location in Covington, Georgia, rather than a Burbank backlot and preplanned studios from Season 2.In the early episodes, Rosco and JD Hogg are much more serious and the stories are more convincing and believable thanks to some great writing. Rosco, even towards the end of the 1st season, lost his seriousness and just lost his crucial aspect of being a corrupt lawman. The 2nd season he basically is a stupid cop with no brains. So after about episode 11 and then the start of Season 2, The Dukes of Hazzard turned into a comedy ruining he spirit of the show in my opinion. With the exception of fans, what few people knew is tha the show was supposed to be a quick 7-9 episode series for CBS during some time off from Dallas. But due to its popularity, fans wanted more so the writers forked out the shows, but lost the quality and freshness of the original episodes.

In Season 2, The environmental aspect of the show also took a hit. As season 2 begun, filming evolved into a studio rather then real life locations. They started to use cheap backdrops behind the vehicles, no more pavement for the cars, and became more. I don't know, some people may not care, but for me, it was simply more engrossing to know that all the characters were actually driving vehicles and not sitting in a motionless car behind a projection screen.

The only plus with Season 2 is that there are more episodes than Season 1. Uncle Jessie (Denver Pyle) has some fine moments as usual and ENOS still makes for the best deputy for the series and he's sorely missed later on in future seasons. His replacment "Cletus" didn't help much either. But when it comes to good silly fun, Season 2 is just that, plain silly. If you leave your expectations low, you seriously need to give Season 2 a shot, but remember, if you want 11 hours of quality entertainment, Season 1 will be the only collection you'll ever need for the series, it's how the show should be remembered and cherished, Season 2 and future releases are not worth your time and money.

Review: I think its great there bring this show out on dvd for once, because this show is a good tv show for people of all ages an you don't half to worry about your kids watching this like you do for other tv shows that is around now days, this your kids can set down an enjoy it, this show shows good value to it, I grew up with the Dukes an its still my favorite tv show today yet, I hope they release season soon instead of halfing to wait like six moths again for another season to be release, when people see a orange charger they think of the General Lee..

Review: I was so excited when I saw that the Dukes were coming out on DVD. I can't believe that I was only ten years old, when this show started. I have two boys, ages 10 and 12, and they are hooked on this show. My 12 year old says "This was a great show", and I will have to agree. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
I have to say I love to hear Waylon Jennings every episode. I took that for granted as a child. As an adult, I realize what a talent we lost when he passed away.
I hope I can eventually buy all the seasons!!!!!

Summary: It is Great To Have the "Good Ol' Boys" Back
Review: It is very exciting to have the original series, "The Dukes of Hazzard" available on DVD after so many years. The shows absence on television, due largely to its contriversal "star" the confederate flag bearing General Lee, has been a generations long frustrations to fans of the series who grew up with the show as part of their childhood culture. The fact is, the show presents about as much racism as it does deep intellectual thought...this was a show about being a couple of "good ol' boys" fighting the system to help anyone they could. The show itself presented family values, the triumph of good over evil and more laughs and action than anything available on television today....and all without the crude (and often graphic) portrayals of drugs, sex and violence that is synonymous with todays media programming.

The central story surrounds Bo and Luke Duke, two cousins who are sent to live with their uncle Jessie and cousin Daisy after being placed on parole for running moonshine in a "dry" county. The boys, reckless and mischevous, go about the affairs of their family while trying to keep their noses clean, despite the best efforts of Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe to bring them down. Hogg, Hazzard's "criminal mastermind" heads up the corrupt (but ever bumbling) police department, and is always scheming to bust the Duke boys for anything possible, since he, too, was a moon-shiner in competition with the Duke family.

Confused? Well, its hard to pack seven years of backstory into a couple short paragraphs. Let me say that this is a series for all ages...created in a time that was more innocent than the world of today. Boys will love the bright orange "01 General Lee" which is as much a leading member of the cast as is any of the actors themselves. Girls will love the Duke Boys, Bo (John Schneider (SMALLVILLE)), and Luke (Tom Wopat (ANNIE GET YOUR GUN)). Parents will love the comedic, often silly, antics of the show combined with the appearant lack of "all that stuff" that makes T.V. viewing so jaded today. Its a family friendly show with a little bit of something for everybody.

This DVD set contains the complete second season of the show along with outtakes, audio commentary from the cast and enough extras to keep even hardcore Dukes of Hazzard fans coming back for more. The digital "clean-up" of the show has restored the original quality of video and audio to as good - or even better - than it originally looked and sounded in 1979-1980.

THis is a must have for fans of the show, and for anyone looking for something fun to watch with the whole family. Give it a try...I am sure you will love it.

Summary: Whoopin' and a Hollerin'
Review: The Dukes of Hazzard TV show was one of those shows in the late 70's to early 80's that made my night life a lot of fun. Two words that all males in their pre-teens of the 80's know - Daisy Duke. Yummy Yummy!

These good ol' boys out drive - out solve - out fight the cops of Hazzard County. For some good ol' southern fun - get the Dukes of Hazzard.

I repeat those famous two words - Daisy Duke!!!

Summary: Season 2 does not disappoint
Review: Warner Brothers should be congratulated for their fantastic presentation with THE DUKES OF HAZZARD, SEASON 2.

The sound quality and picture are both crisp and clear, probably more so than when these episodes originally aired on CBS in 1979-1980. The packaging is absolutely superb...great pictures, some never before seen, and it includes a great 1979-era cast photo inside, and everyone is present, including Sonny Shroyer.

I really enjoyed the extra featuers as well: the screen tests for John Schneider and Tom Wopat were fascinating to see after all these years, and I hope more things like this see the light of day on future releases of the DUKES. The annual DukesFest celebration is also highlighted, and this coverage includes interviews and footage of original stars Shroyer (Enos), Catherine Bach (Daisy), Rick Hurst (Cletus), Ben Jones (Cooter) and James Best (Rosco), who were all guests at the DukesFest event. Footage of the event also includes a stunt show, profiles and pictures of individuals who own replicas of the General Lee, and even a hidden easter egg, showing the original cast clowning around with the crowd, led by Bach and Shooter Jennings, Waylon's son, who leads a sing-a-long of the DUKES theme.

Season 2 featured some of the DUKES OF HAZZARD's best episodes, including "Days of Shine and Roses," "People's Choice," "Granny Annie," "Find Loretta Lynn" and of course, "The Ghost of the General Lee," one of the best episodes of the entire series. A previous reviewer had a concern about "Carnival of Thrills" not being included here, but the episode did air in the third season, even though it was filmed late in the second. Photos that appear on the packaging of any TV on DVD set are usually not always just resigned to that particular season. And quite frankly, I saw the photo and on first glance, I didn't expect "Carnival of Thrills" to appear on this set, nor did I immediately associate the picture with that episode.

Highly recommended, and much looking forward to the release of seasons 3-7. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for Season 3 to appear.
