Summary: Awsome - A reminder of real family entertainment
Review: In 1979, I was an 8 year old boy. I remember seeing the theatrical release at the local "drive-in"... yes, I said "drive-in". Those who don't know what that is, all I can say is ask your parents.

Being 8 years of age did not stop me from developing a crush on Erin Gray (Col. Wilma Dearing) and Pamela Hensley (Princess Ardala). After seeing the movie it became a fantasy during playtime to be Buck Rogers.

I absolutely loved the TV show and was saddened to see when it ended so abruptly. This show was and is, as I consider, still a great show to share with my sons for family television time. Sure the dialogue and stories may be campy and dated, but when you look at what is available on present day television for families - you can't help but appreciate the availability of this show... if just for the nostaligic purpose.

The video and audio look awesome. Universal did a great job cleaning up the prints. The only thing I wish they could have included was some extras such as trailers for the theatrical release, and some commentary by the actors involved with the show.

In any case - this made a fine addition to my library. My sons, ages 5 & 2, are often excited when I put on one of the discs from this collection... often asking me for more when an episode ends.

The great thing is there is an upcoming convention coming to Orlando with the actors who portrayed Buck, Wilma, Hawk, and Twiki being there the entire weekend. It is a weekend that I am looking forward to and one that has my 5 year old already asking if can he "can meet Captain Buck Rogers and Hawk".

I am truly thankful to Universal for releasing this television show onto the DVD format - if just for the fact that I am able to share and make memories with my sons such as the ones I experienced with my father before he passed away.

THIS DVD COLLECTION IS A MUST FOR YOU SCIFI JUNKIES...

Summary: BEEDEE BEEDEE...BUCK RULES!
Review: The Buck Rogers DVD set is awesome! It contains the movie (pilot) and every episode of both seasons (unedited...damn you synidcation). The nice thing about this show is that it works several entertainment levels all at the same time. There's CHEESE, bad sci-fi, rough acting, Princess Ardala (HOT!), weak stories, CHEESE, 70's fashion, the worst fight choreography I have ever seen, and more CHEESE.

And guess what...IT'S A BLAST TO WATCH BECAUSE IT'S FUN!

In watching several episodes I have to admit I had forgotten that the Jamie Lee Curtis episode was actually decent, that the Legion of Death 2-Parter was solid entertainment, and that Markie Post looked smoking (HOT!) in 70's lycra. Even the Gary Coleman episode was funny because the writers worked hard to make it enjoyable (still they missed a "What you talkin' 'bout Buck!" moment).

The only thing holding this DVD back from a 5-Star rating is that the prints have obviously not been cleaned in 25 years and the picture quality does suffer by comparison.

As someone who grew up with Buck Rogers this was the viewing equivalent of going to Disney World. While kids born after 1990 may miss the point all others should buy or rent this pack and enjoy some classic sci-fi-fun.

Summary: Please release this TV series
Review: The first season of this series is a guilty pleasure. It's campy and has a very period feel to it but I must admit I had to be home to watch it as a teenager back in the day. I have recently rewatched most of the episodes on the Sci-fi channel and they hold up quite well as I remembered them. It's not Star Trek but it's no Galactica 1980 either. Erin Grey is hot and Gil Gerrard is the Kevin Sorbo of his day (If you like that sort of thing). Season two went astray and nearly ruined the good feelings I had for season one but season two wasn't toally all bad either. With all the box sets coming out there must be room to make Buck Rogers in the 25th Century Season One! I'd certainly buy it!

Summary: Not the theatrical release
Review: There is at least 1 scene missing. The scene where Buck is shown his apartment food dispensor and entertainment center. I think there is anothe regarding a second landing of his shuttle IIRC.

Enjoyable other than that.

Summary: Boy, did I oversleep this time!
Review: Universal Studios updated the popular matinee movie serial sci-fi hero from the thirties to the seventies in this film which was the pilot for the TV series. Gil Gerard takes on the role which was first played by Olympic athlete turned actor Buster Crabbe. A twentieth century astronaut is frozen in suspended animation and is revived in the late twenty-fifth century where his new surroundings are totally different and unfamiliar. Somehow, he quickly and nonchalantly accepts his new surroundings and quickly adapts to help the earth inhabitants defend themselves from the Draconians, an extraterrestrial race bent on conquering the earth. From watching this film, I got the idea Universal Studios was trying to salvage some of the props and sets from their expensive and somewhat unsuccessful show "Battlestar Galactica". Apparently, they must have recovered some of their losses with "Buck Rogers" because the TV show lasted for several seasons. This is the only place you'll be able to hear the lyrics to the TV theme song and also be able to see the TV-censored way Buck overcame and defeated the Tiger Man. Overall, it's entertaining and worth watching to the average science fiction junkie.

Summary: This show was nothing special
Review: Well, this series I vaguely recall from 1979. It was only on two seasons in two very revamped versions that never worked. The visual effects were sub-par phooney, often using stock footage from Battlestar Galactica to save costs and neither gerad nor Erin Grey ever worked on TV again afterward. Nothing large anyway. About 35 shows were made in all. Not a great sci-fi Tv show at all. Better off watching something better like the Twilight Zone.

Summary: Pure entertainment
Review: When I was a kid, was sick and I had to stay home from school, I watched Buck Rogers. The film is so entertaining, it never got boring! I don't understand why neither the movie nor the show became more popular, 'cause it has all required elements: A handsome, charming male lead, an incredibly beautiful, talented female lead, comic elements (twicky), an exciting story, fun dialogs. Pamela Hensley as scantily clad and super-spoiled Amidala is always a pleasure to watch. I also thought that Erin Gray gave a very convincing performance as Col. Deering, struggling between her affection to Buck and her responsibility as leader of earths armed forces. And here is something for You feminists as well! Long before Star Trek dared to install a female captain (which by the way almost became Erin Gray - what a pity that she didn't) Buck Rogers had a woman in a very high postion. The special effects are also very good, for a tv show of '79, that is.
